'Inflation above 30%', says De Mendiguren

Sunday, December 21st 2014 - 23:44 UTC
Full article 85 comments

Lawmaker and member of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) José Ignacio de Mendiguren said that inflation is not 40% as some private indexes say, but he pointed out that it is not around 24% as the government says either. “I think it is over 30%,” he said. Read full article

If they're hoping for a repeat of their “recovery” after the default and massive devaluation it is never going to happen.

There's really something wrong with the way Rgs think. I really don't understand why they can't see what's happening in their macro economics.

@3. Giorgio. 'Immoral economic system'. Funny that Argentina is rated down in 107th position in the Global Corruption Index (UK 14th, Chile & Uruguay joint
21st). Is 107th position immoral enough?

@3. Hey ho, Giorgio, are you hoping to be able to blame the aliens. Thinking about it, little grey body, big head, strange eyes. It's Timerman! Remember the tv series 'V' (V stands for Visitor). Turned out to be lizards in human disguises. Sounds like Kirchner. So the next series will be called 'K'. There will still be the usual 'snack' shots. Dropping the live mice into the open mouth, watching it distorting the throat of the lizard as it is ingested. The only difference is that 'K' will be playing herself. The mice will be real. No more camera tricks!

Now here's an article, published only two months ago, in which the Opposition legislators announced that inflation was 41.06%.
    http://panampost.com/panam-staff/2014/10/16/annual-inflation-in-argentina-soars-to-highest-point-in-decades/
So what is De Mendiguren up to? Why, apparently, do the majority of 'Opposition lawmakers' have one view, but he has another? But what sort of 'lawmaker' is he? Is he 'Opposition', 'Kirchner' or somewhere in between? Is he trying to make a name for himself? Is he a nutjob? That last seems most likely. Although most argies are nutjobs. The only question is what percentage of each one is 'nut'? We could discount 'job'. Few argies have any knowledge of 'jobs'. In most countries in the western world, a 'job' is an occupation that one goes to 5, 6 or even 7 days a week. The 'norm' is 40 to 42 hours a week. It's not like that in argieland, is it? There, a 'job' is something with which to pass the time. Salaries or wages are based on inaccurate inflation figures and are determined annually irrespective of ability or 'work' done. At the appropriate time, the unions say that everyone should get, say, a 25% pay increase. Where else in the world do you get a 25% pay increase every year? So De Mendiguren, for undisclosed reasons, is trying to cut back pay increases. Does he want to create a massive class of the dissatisfied? Look at the mad, staring eyes!

One thing that I think a lot of people have forgotten about and eventually it will come back to bite Argentina is the understatement of inflation and the overstatement of GDP. Three are U$Billions of bonds linked to those 2 figures.
At some point they're going to have to restate those figures back a decade and recalculate the amount of interest that needs to be paid out.

I hope it happens in 2015.

The industrial class of Argentina are a problem they depend on the State to protect them from foreign products, devaluate the peso, tax agro export so farmers dump their produce in Argentina making food and raw materials cheap for them to compete. That is why the Mercosur will never work, these are the folks who will prevent it, but the politicians will make you believe that they are defending sugar producers in Tucuman or citrus farmers in Corrientes,

    11. I think you are confusing recovery with growth. Argentina during 2002-2006 did more or less recover precrisis level of economic activity. But Argentina never actually grew over those levels.

You may have a recovery now starting from mid 2016 or 2017. But if these crooks get in they will start another spending circle to get the votes they need in mid terms.

    12. Once they restate the GDP numbers over the last decade I think they'll find there wasn't any growth. I don't think there was even much of a recovery.

I liken it to the Chinese growth, there's growth because we tell you there's growth. Its all fake inflated/fudged numbers to make them come out where they want them to come out.

I think its hilarous that they're praising the current retard running BCRA for getting reserves over 30B, it is pure manipulation of the balance sheet. In a civilized country he'd be in jail for cooking the books that way.

I have only been to Mendoza twice, both times on a bike, and both were scary particularly coming in and out through the outskirts. On many occasions I have probed Toby about the place and he has failed to convince me he lives there. These days he seems to go off for a long period and then come back so either he has a job or is attending school. Possibly his carers are limiting his time on PCs. Perhaps they have parental controls? His English is very good indeed so its a fair bet he is in the UK or one of its former colonies and as you say is subject to a lot of piss taking.
His mental condition does seem to have deteriorated. He fails to be amusing anymore as he once was. He seems fixated on being an anti Anglo/EU racist these days.
I wonder if he is some sort of savant as he is a wizz at Googling and comes up with all sorts of impressive facts to support his crazy juvenile rants?

It is bad enough that the inflation in rotting roadkill approaches fifty (50%) percent this year but that coupled with the universal poor quality of the goods and services that one receives with the payment of these worthless paysos makes this the most overvalued country in the world.

    Examples:

coffee - the worst in the Americas

pizza - no relationship to anything ever seen in Italy

    government - lol

national defenses - a danger to themselves

    beer - quilmes?

residential construction - do they try to make these things leak?

mass transportation - buses or trains? pick your method of death

education - graduates trained to do nothing

    police protection - absent

    clothes/shoes - disposible

cell service - coverage maps look like Swiss cheese

broad band - at dial speeds

coffee - the worst in the Americas- I disagree I like it better than the USA, Havana better than Starbucks......our coffee is like warm pisswater, I like it strong

pizza - no relationship to anything ever seen in Italy-Depends, but I prefer NYC pizza

    government - lol----AGREED

national defenses - a danger to themselves---We can overwhelm them with USA Eagle Scouts

beer - quilmes?----AGrred....I like IPA's and they are unheard of. Quilmes is there Budweiser. Thye, craft ale is catching on.

residential construction - do they try to make these things leak?-depends

mass transportation - buses or trains? pick your method of death- this assumes they are not on their monthly strike schedule

education - graduates trained to do nothing-Public is propaganda and you must get a private education.

police protection - absent-more corrupt than a kirchnerite eyeing a suitcase full of U$

clothes/shoes - disposible-Some shoes are ok...clothing.....SUCK...like paper towels and no choices of colors or style.

cell service - coverage maps look like Swiss cheese-I never when I travel....too expenvice with AT&T

broad band - at dial speeds-so so as long as it it on. If you lose it, can takes weeks to get it back on. My brother in laws land line phone collapsed last year, still no service.

I am happy Toby is encouraging all his “friends” to hate the Uk.

We have established that he has no friends, and his only sexual encounter was with his club-foot cousin, probably because she couldn't run away quick enough.

If there were a way that Argentina could “get over” Peronism without the complete collapse of the economy, the deaths of say a million, the utter destruction of the cancerous immoral fabric of the nation...I'd be all for it.

But we see it here, Argentinas debts...foreign bankers fault, Argentinas power cuts...foreign electricity fault, Argentinas oil shortage...repsols fault, Argentinas inflation...foreigners, Argentinas crime....foreigners,

It is ludicrous, and so ingrained, like this ridiculous Malvinas myth, it is unpatriotic to question it.....

To be proud of Argentinas decay over the past 70 years is to hate Argentina...
To want to be rid of the Peronist cancer is to love Argentina....

So now being close friends with a family member equals a sexual encounter? Well, I can understand that, since the Anglos have no families to speak of they are amongst the most dysfunctional tossers on Earth. And given the flak we both got (and get) because of our much larger feet, of course we are going to be close. It's not an easy thing, but we have grown strong from it and thus I can talk openly here about it. The insults here about it are absolutely nothing compared to the flesh and blood humiliation both me and her have had.

Secondly, I assume from your post that you and your cousin were bullied over your large feet. Maybe it is time to get over it. Children are bullied over all kinds of things in school. @54 WHy are you still letting the bullies ruin your life. You are so full of hatred, envy and bitterness. Still allowing them to win.

That you know nothing of family life in England is evident. You don't really know much of anything. By making such stupid statements only highlights your ignorance; nothing more.

You do say you come from Mendoza but I am pretty sure you don't. You lie so much that nothing you say has any merit.

To be honest, it doesn't much matter where he lives. He talks such bullshit that no one could ever believe him if he gave us his full address.

I think, on balance, Mendoza is probably one of the better places to be in Argentina at the moment.

On my first visit many years ago I walked everywhere and felt reasonably safe. The wineries were flourishing and people were investing in land and property there. Apart from the beggars and a few protests going on, the city seemed to be doing well.

The last time I was there I noticed an increase in security and the locals were nervous. Crime was a real problem and we were forever being warned by the locals. I did still walk but it gave my Argentine friends the heebie jeebies so I gave in to taxis. The wineries were complaining about not being able to get parts for machinery and locals confirmed everything was getting worse. It has deteriorated more since then.

It does look as if Argentina is back on my agenda for next year so I shall get to see for myself.

The bitterness and anger is only towards you guys here, because that is what you throw at us argies. Part of having very big feet was that you must fight back bullies, or at least kinda make jokes of your own and take no sh!t.

That's what I do here with you guys.

@60 Now, that is not true is it. You despise all women - no exceptions. That is a few billion people for starters. You constantly profess to hate all people from the U.K. and the U.S and Europe. That is an awful lot of people. You also told us you don't need friends.

You are remarkably thick today. It doesn't matter that you say you live in Mendoza, there is no way of proving it. I could give you my address as Sandringham, Norfolk PE35 6EN, England but it doesn't prove anything.

What is peculiar is your claim that Mendoza is thriving when clearly it isn't.

When was the last time I claimed Mendoza was “thriving”? Six months ago? You are such an idiot, what I do say is things are not collapsing like you claim. I have always said as well that the long term trend is down since Argentina is on the descending slope of its history.

I have always been consistent, unlike you or anyone else.

Worry more about Ottawa and Sydney, your Anglo cousins who live in cities that have been warzones in 2014.

Yeah and? Don't things “deteriorate” in England? Like in the late 2000s? The difference is I explain it as normal ups and downs of the economic cycle. You try to create this entire myth that “deterioration” is a uniquely argentine thing. Because you are a wankress.

@75 No, that is your victim mentality at work.

Argentina is not just on a 'natural' downward turn, it is crashing spectacularly because of your corrupt and incompetent government. Sure it has happened before because of particular factors in Argentina that make it more pronounced but this time it will be worse. Downturns are not uniquely Argentine but the scale of it is.

    76. You're right about that, holiday sales are “up” 12% yoy except inflation is 50% so they're really down 38%!!!
The ups and downs of their cycles are incredible. Even in the deepest darkest day of our recession stats didn't fluctuate that dramatically.

I've said for a long time that this crash is going to be unlike any other crash they've had, nobody cares enough about Argentina to bale them out. I think the USA want's to teach them a lesson to try to bring them back into the real world, so we're out, IMF is out, the USA will block WB and IDB loans, Venezuela is out, the only one left is China and I don't see them doing much more than they already have.
If they can't get BODEN bonds refinanced, and they'll try again, they literally don't have enough U$ to make in through 2015. They have nothing to sell.
I can't wait for NML to start seizing their non embassy properties in the USA. That could happen this year. That will be fun to watch.

    A NECESARY REVISION.
One year ago, some of those econochantas, who often appear on tv giving economic predictions, said that for the end of 2014, arg. was going to have between 20 and 25 thousand million dollars, beside they also said that the dollar quotation was going to be almost out of controll. I knew that they were wrong, not because i'm a genious, actually i'm not, i knew it because they have always failed in their predictions since 2003. Perhaps they can't make serious critics to the falencies of c. f. k's government, or maybe they are just repeating what is convenient to the corporate interests that some of them represent.
It's well known that this year wasn't good for arg., not ony for the mistakes committed by the government, but also because of the bad situations that some of our main trade partners are going through, beside, the global economic situation is still too weak, which is something that prejudices our trade.
However, the state made a great effort to keep the consumption levels, despite some jobs were lost. On the other hand, after the swap with china, and the negotiations with those cretins farmer who didn't want to sell the harvests, now we have more than 31 thousand million dollars, which is a very good level to pay all our obligations, beside the dollar quotation is absolulty under controll.
There is a mountain of legitimate critics that anybody can make to c. f. k's administration, but nobody can deny that her pulse didn't tremble, when she took some hard decisions for economic power, and decided to carry on a great confrontation with them, who committed 9 economic runs since 2007, with the purpose of braking her government down, as they did with alfonsin in 1989.
In just one year will be in office the new president of arg., it's well known that whoever wins, won't be able to dismantle the achievements that workers could get since 2003, due to people have already empowered of them, which is wonderful.

You nimrod, they would have that balance if China did not give them Yuans to convert into U$. If you actually think they maintained reserves because of anything other than China's bailout/currency swap.....aka BORROWED MONEY, you are beyond comprehension.

What is it that you hate about people controlling their own lives?

Why is it that you prefer the overall populace decreasing in self sufficiency and wealth in order to rise the minority?
