    The whisper on the streets is that this is a prelude for a massive invasion of Argentina. What does Argentina say “ they are militarizing the South Atlantic ” watch them run to the UN.

    Even the Argies are not stupid enough to consider two ex-marines on a charity fundraiser as enhancing the Military capability.

    Oh second thoughts though...

    One has to admire two British 50-year olds willing to attempt such a gruelling voyage. Muscle power, endurance, courage and Royal Marines. They go together. Puts that argie prick 'running' up and down three steps into perspective, doesn't it? As Royal Marines, even ex-Royal Marines, demonstrate what they can do, it's no wonder argieland had to deploy over 60,000 personnel to try to overcome 80 of them. Even though 22 had been detached aboard HMS Endurance (A171) to destroy the argie force on South Georgia. Unfortunately the argies surrendered too quickly for them all to be killed. In particular, Astiz surrendered. How unfortunate that Royal Marines obeyed orders and kept their safety catches ON. Unfortunately, there is no information that Astiz is dead. Although, apparently, he has pancreatic cancer. I do hope that he's in agony every minute. Save the bullet, Marines! Just wander over and, as one soldier to another, kick the argie shite in the guts!

    @4. Quite right! Two ex-Royal Marines in kayaks. I expect that the argie defence/war cabinet will be meeting every day. As far as I can see, 1 Royal Marine equals over a thousand argies. Seems about right. And, as I recall, the argies were so scared of the Marines that they had to mount a covert, stealth attack on the Marine barracks. Cowards! And the Royal Marines aren't our best. Some guys calling themselves 'Paras' are just as good at killing argies. Then there's 21, 22 and 23 SAS. Not people you want to meet if they're feeling annoyed. Argies annoy them.

    Well if a Type 45 destroyer is equivalent to the Death Star, then a Royal Marine in a kayak must be equivalent to a Star Destroyer! So two Royal Marines in kayaks must be equivalent to a Super Star Destroyer!

    “Even the Argies are not stupid enough to consider two ex-marines on a charity fundraiser as enhancing the Military capability.”

    A normal person would think so, but these are the people who think a submarine pictured off Scotland is militarising the South Atlantic, that an air sea rescue pilot in a yellow unarmed helicopter is a strategic threat to their whole country as is a missile with a 4 mile range.

    When I saw Prince William whisking a kid out of the sea in Wales, apart from feeling concerned for the kid at the time, I didn't feel that my life was in imminent danger. I guess I just cannot understand the Peronist mind set.

    PHD thesis on Argentine 'militarisation' psychology anyone?

    @7 & @8

    It would be an interesting thesis to do though, wouldn't it?

    You'd probably need input from most of the world's leading psychologists just to get a starting point.

    Be a bit like the trials of Sisyphus, the poor devil who had to roll a massive boulder up a mountain, only to watch it roll back down again.

    I don't think there are the number of nut doctors available to complete the ground work.

    What about the Dark Country? Captain Itch (Dismal) is a dean at one I believe, a laugh a minute ...

    “You'd probably need input from most of the world's leading psychologists just to get a starting point.”

    But so sad when unable to understand the logic of a 4 -mile range missile threatening a country nearly 400 miles away they would go mad or shoot themselves.

    Looks like you would be well qualified to advise on the Argentine psyche. Except they wouldn't listen and would keep rolling the boulder up the mountain....
