Visiting scientists from “all corners of the Americas” have received a warm welcome to the Falkland Islands. The delegates from the US, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and Chile are experts in a range of fields including marine ecology, oceanography and geology and are on a week-long visit at the invitation of the Falkland Islands government and the South Atlantic Environmental Research Institute, SAERI. Jan 21st, 2015 - 01:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Argentina has by far more knowledge of Penguins, southern Ocean dynamics, and the like than all those countries attending the Symposium put together, most of which aren't even in the area.
It is this meetings loss not having had Argentina involved, so you are indeed correct sorry for you, because we would gain nothing from attending.
Good to see this show of support for Argentina's spurious 'claims'...

Jan 21st, 2015 - 04:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You are half right, it probably would have been mutually beneficial having some sensible Argentinian scientists attending. No doubt they would have been able to contribute.
In slightly less dangerous time they may well have attended.
Now, they probably don’t want to accidently commit suicide just before they leave for the airport.
@2, 3. Worth remembering that, having watched and having more experts available, Islanders ARE expert at the extermination of vermin. Vermin have been known to arrive from a nearby landmass. Consideration is being given to the extermination of the vermin on the nearby landmass.

PREVALENCE AND MAGNITUDE OF INSECTICIDE RESISTANCE
IN THE GERMAN COCKROACH
(DICTYOPTERA, BLATTELLIDAE)

Department of Entomology, Box 7613, North Carolina State University,

Abstract - Numerous studies have shown that German cockroaches, Blattella germanica (L.), are often resistant to
insecticides in settings where insecticides have been used extensively in the past. We have now examined resistance in
German cockroaches collected in homes in which insecticide usage has been minimal, and resident-initiated at best.
Resistance to propoxur, chlorpyrifos, pyrethrins, permethrin, and cypermethrin was evaluated with a discriminating
dose technique. Logit analysis was used to identify topical dosages of the insecticides expected to kill 99% of adult males
in an insecticide-susceptible strain. These dosages, or slightly higher ones, were then used to screen for resistance in
males of field-collected strains. All strains exhibited resistance to every insecticide, but the degree of resistance varied.
Propoxur was the only insecticide to kill, with great frequency, more than 10% of insects, whereas the other insecticides
usually killed less than 5%. The magnitude of resistance was assessed by treating insects with 25-fold more insecticide
than the discriminating dosage. This amount of chlorpyrifos and propoxur killed almost all insects, but large numbers
of males from most colonies survived being treated with high dosages of pyrethrins, permethrin, and cypermethrin. We
conclude that insecticide resistance is a ubiquitous phenomenon in the German cockroach.
Key words - Blattella germanica, resistance detection, discriminating dose
INTRODUCTION
The German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.), is by far the most important cockroach pest in the
United States. Through the middle of this century, cockroach control efforts most often involved

@12 I am simply going to copy and paste a comment i made on a previous article about this subject, since you were too immature (or stupid) to give me a decent rebuttal i will see what you come up with this time Pauly.
Jan 22nd, 2015 - 12:04 am - Link - Report abuse 0Having just read the penguin article, i do agree that the fishing industry has had some impact on penguin numbers but far more ships were fishing here unregulated before 1986, once we were given control over the economic zone we have continuously improved our practices, ships can no longer fish near penguin colonies for example. And like Pete Bog mentioned we now have counter measures on all fishing vessels to ensure albatross and other seabirds are not caught or injured during fishing, these have been very successful at reducing seabird mortality's. There is currently ongoing research on how to improve these counter measures further. But the decline in penguin populations can also be attributed to global warming and shifting sea currents along with a poisonous algae that decimated some penguin populations in 2005, although research shows there has been an increase in breeding pairs, but its still early days, there has also been a decline in penguin populations in other parts of the world, such as New Zealand, its a problem that is not fully understood, in fact penguin populations have been decreasing since the 1800's. So to be honest that article is a little short sighted, and for you to place the entire blame on us is a little unfair, especially with Argentina's terrible conservation record, like the over-fishing and decimation of the Blue Whiting, which is only now starting to recover, but you lot forget things like that. We have made mistakes but we try to improve and learn from them, unlike Argentina.
Do you at least have a decent reply to this? are you able to communicate like an adult for once?

Argentina's conservation record is better than Europe's, USA's, Australia's, China's, Brazil's, and several other countries COMBINED.
How many extinct species in Argentina vs the places above, how many total percentage of original forest cover lost in Argentina vs UK, Europe, etc; levels of acid rain; days where the capital city is under smog alert, etc.... its not even a contest. You are way way way behind us.
@19 So what exactly am I lying about?

Jan 22nd, 2015 - 06:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0Please provide EVIDENCE that Argentina's conservation record is better than everyone you've mentioned.
Being a 'self-proclaimed' intellect surely in can't be too difficult for you can it?
As for looking after the environment on the world index on performance on environmental issues the UK is 12th, USA is 33rd and Argentina is 93rd. Are you perhaps lying again Tobias? Spouting out lies in your little hated fuelled rants?
http://epi.yale.edu/epi/country-rankings
As for your rants about percentage of 'original' forest cover lost in the UK compared to others, do tell? What is it?
Or don't you know? Are you, as you usually do, make spurious statements about things and then try to pass them off as facts?
But one thing for sure is that Argentina's environmental record isn't nearly as 'good' as your are trying to tell us it is. The statistics don't lie.
So the scientists invited to the Falkland Islands are all from countries that are higher on the Environmental Performance Index, than Argentina is!!!!!
So once again, Tobias, it's open mouth and insert foot time for you.

Jan 22nd, 2015 - 02:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You expect me to trust some Anglo university rag publication, that was compile by Anglos with no international and representative staff? What a joke you are.
Why is it the Anglo reports always put themselves first in the rankings, always? (best cities, universities, most famous musicians, etc)... But German, French, Russian, Italian, Japanese ones don't?
Your sources have absolutely no credibility and if you think so name a good reason why I should believe them.
Second, to compare the UK to Argentina is beyond the pale of impudence. You have NOTHING to protect, all your natural treasures were DESTROYED BEFORE THE MODERN environmental movement even began.
It must be easy to sweep and mop and keep dust away from an EMPTY HALL ROOM (the UK), vs a showroom full of furniture, books, paintings, sculptures, computers, and home audio/video systems and all kinds of adornments (Argentina).
You are not even in the conversation when it comes to nature. The UK is a desert of death and terrible history there.
@23 You didn't answer my question. What am I lying about, the fact we have measures to protect seabirds and penguins or about Argentina's conservation record? Jan 22nd, 2015 - 08:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Given Argentinas FAMOUS knack for being a lying, craphole deadbeat of a country, why should anyone believe anything that you say?
You lie about your economy.
You lie about the abject misery and oppression the native amerindians live in.
You lie about the Falkland Islands.
You lie about the AIMA bombing.
You lie about the suspicious death of Mr Nisman.
You lie about corruption in your country.
You lie about the security situation in your country.
You lie, Tobais, you lie. So given Argentina's past and current record of being liars, then yes, the world renown university is definitely more trustworthy that YOUR protestations of Argentina being 'perfect' because you say it is.
Oh Tobias, I also know you to lie about yourself, and I've caught you out doing it. And when you are caught you come back as another persona, which is also a lie.
You wouldn't have to change your name if you were an honest person. Honest people don't lie and pretend to be someone else.
Argentina's history (especially recent history) regarding the environment is absolutely shocking. Unchecked polluting of rivers (and trying to blame your 'brothers' in Uruguay - tut, tut - what's liars you are).
The destruction of land to grow more soy, stealing it from the native amerindians and causing them to starve, or murdering them if they complain.
Oh yes, Argentina is a far, far from perfect country. Perhaps you should try visiting there yourself and see with your own European eyes.
You know, I brook much humiliation, denigration, vituperation, and traducing here, but I shall not even by the slightest soupçon tolerate being told I have European eyes.
Jan 23rd, 2015 - 01:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0You really sink to the lowest of the lowest of insults don't you.

Tobi, why do you constantly deny your European heritage? You really need to get some therapy.

Like the British NHS?

Jan 23rd, 2015 - 06:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0You brook nothing. You insult and throw your nasty little tantrums at people, and when they respond in kind, you get upset and run away.
If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
And as for your eyes being European, yes they are, they would be from your European ancestors, the ones that either turned up in South America and murdered the natives and stole their land, or the ones that left Europe and settle on the blood drenched lands stolen from the natives.
Anyway you look at it Argentina was and still is stolen property. And no matter how much you protest that there were no natives living in Argentina - and those that were where from Chile, or that 'only' a few thousand were killed so it doesn't count as genocide (even though if you kill a few thousand of a population that is only a few thousand the it is genocide) - doesn't alter the truth of the matter.
And I KNOW you for a liar Tobias.
You once boldly stated that you NEVER commented on articles relating to the Falklands. Less than 10 minutes after your 'bold' statement you were ranting your horrible hate filled diatribes on an article relating to the Falklands.
You once boldly stated that you were a native amerindian. Less than a day later you were denouncing the native amerindians and calling them all kinds of names, because they had the temerity to protest against Argentina, it's government and it's treatment of them.
You are NOT a native Amerindian. You ARE of European descent (probably quite recent too - only 1 or 2 generations in - hence your feelings of inadequacy). You ARE a liar.
@31 So what am i lying about? It's such a simple question even and idiot like you could answer.
