But, Salmond was completely wrong. Scotland voted clearly against Independence in the recent referendum . And, with the oil price sinking below the horizon none of his already dodgy sums add up. Scotland would be broke and go the way of Greece having to beg on its knees for the UK to bail it out. If it did become independent and loose the current UK taxpayer subsidy of £1400 per person per annum things would rapidly get very difficult for Scots. Social benefits, child tax credits, education, free university places, widespread public housing and free health treatment would suffer massive cuts and taxes would have to rise. There would be a stampede to get out and into England which is presently the fastest growing economy in Europe and the developed world.

.scot a badge of distiction or decrepitude?

You really don't have a clue, do you?

“ “Scotland is well on the road to independence, and it looks like we will soon be independent”
    exactly.
    well done.”

You take the quote out of context to suit yor pathological hatred and immature envy. Silly boy.
Alex Salmond declared this back in March 2012, then went on to LOSE the Referendum. So perhaps not 'on the road to independence' then? The Scottish did not choose that path.

Personally, I don't care what domain name the dotty.scots wish to use, it is up to them to decide.
Britain remains The United Kingdom and I am sure the Scottish are very glad of it now the oil-price is going through the floor.
Salmond is a has-been, shouting from the side-lines.

Bit like you paulie, a failure.

It's as about as useful as putting up Gaelic road signs in areas where Gaelic was never spoken and nobody can read them....same in Wales !
Who cares about this. Will it make the service on the net any better ? I doubt it.
As to trying to connect with UK govt. sites it's a nightmare.
Being over 70, I have to re apply for my driving licence and I am recommended to do so on-line, which I do . They promise a one week turn round...a joke.
Five weeks later no licence so I try to email them about this.
After spending over an hour trying to find an email address for queries, I end up at the same page I started.
Seemingly it can only be done by phone to a premium rated phone line.
We all know what this means...please chose options by pressing 1,2,3,4,5 etc. then more until you hear “all our agents are busy just now” and we will play you an inane piece of music while you lose the will to live. So, after 15 minutes you give up having run up a few £'s in a wasted call and are no further on than when you started.!!!!
This is our govt.'s idea of “improved efficiency” in the Civil Service.

@1. There's a slight error in Salmond's sound bite. It should read 'Scotland is well on the road to bankruptcy”. I shall explain. Salmond's nazis decided that they could best buy the scotch vote with lots of freebies that English people have to pay for. They achieved this by stealing English money. It's only necessary to cite three examples. Back in 1707, when the scotch actually were bankrupt, England gave them a loan to tide them over. 308 years and the scotch haven't made a single attempt to pay it back. Taking into account a nominal rate of interest, that debt is now more than £2 trillion. Couple of points there. If the scotch are, supposedly, so wealthy, why can't they pay it back? And, if they paid it back, the UK would no longer have a national debt. But that's the way things are. When it suits them, the scotch are poor and need money. When England has money, it shares it out.

Then, the scoth like to claim that they pay more into the UK treasury than anyone else. And that's sort of true. What they always 'forget' to mention is that it's only been like that since 1975. They never mention the other 268 years. It's called a 'gimme' culture. Much like argieland.

And now we can see that Salmond's figures never added up. But they were all based on continuing to leech off England. Now the oil price has dropped, Sturgeon says that the UK has to step in. Why? No-one 'steps in' when the UK or England has financial problems. Fortunately, changes are on the way. With the transfer of 'powers' to the scotch government, scotch MPs won't be allowed to vote on legislation unless it affects them. English votes for English laws! And public expenditure for the scotch will be reassessed using data collected by English officials. No more dodgy scotch figures! It is expected that the allocation will be reduced by as much as 50%!

Well as long as they keep voting for them, the SNP have a continued mandate to keep chipping away at their ultimate goal. Independence by the back door they are calling it. Personally I would have preferred them to take the front door last year and we could have washed our hands of them all together, but alas we seem to be stuck with them for some time to come and we will continue to see gratuitous playground stunts like these.

This ridiculous mess we now find ourselves in, due to appeasement, is finite. Ultimately we are moving in different directions. By far the sensible solution would be federation, The Federal Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Four completely independent states in federal unity.

The status quo or “mess” we currently have will not last long, the political landscape is now changed forever.

The majority of Scots don't want to be in the UK, don't let the referendum results fool you, theres at least a 5% margin who simply didn't want to rock the boat.

Not when theres a global economic mess going on.

“Looks like the early stages of civil dis-obedience.”

    Erm.... no it doesn't.

Otherwise these regions are also in “the early stages of civil dis-obedience” as well:
    .bayern - Bavaria
    .bzh - Brittany
    .cat - Catalunya
    .cymru - Wales
.eus - Basque, Spain and France
    .frl - Friesland
    .gal - Galicia
    .nrw - North Rhine-Westphalia
    .ruhr - Ruhr
    .saarland - Saarland
.tirol - Tyrol, Austria and Italy
    .vlaanderen - Flanders
    .wales - Wales

And there must be riots in these cities:
    .berlin - Berlin, Germany
    .brussels - Brussels, Belgium
    .budapest - Budapest, Hungary
    .cologne - Cologne, Germany
    .gent - Ghent, Belgium
    .hamburg - Hamburg, Germany
    .koeln - Cologne, Germany
    .london - London, United Kingdom
    .madrid - Madrid, Spain
    .moscow - Moscow, Russia
    .paris - Paris, France
    .wien - Vienna, Austria

Let alone New York, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Vegas and Rio de Janiero.

I know change confuses old people, but there is no reason to panic.

They're just the new top level domain names coming into use.

well it was intended as a bit of a joke.

that said, you really should be nicer to the Scots. A pervasive attitude in here seems to be 'well it didn't happen yet and therefore cant'. or 'yeah yeah 45% whateva'.

As one who correctly foresaw a close call referendum resulting in a 'No' campaign win I can tell you that public opinion is what really matters, and Scottish nationalism is without doubt well above 45%.
I say that objectively - changing the political status quo almost always involves a sizable percentage advantage for the 'no' side. Human tendance towards risk aversion in the middle of economic crises saved the 'no' campaign.
    Just say it isn't so.

    I too need a laugh.

The trouble you have is that you fail to notice that the bulk of the Scottish electorate did not advocate the break up either. However don't let that get in the way of your prejudices.

I will find out in May 2016 will I ? What exactly will I find out ? A mass vote for UKIP in England, coming out of the EU and England finding it's former golden age ? As we say here “ Aye, that'll be right”

You mistake “anti-scot Nat” with “anti-scot”. I am not sure why.

I am enormously proud of the 55% of Scots who voted No, enormously proud to share a country with them, enormously proud of our shared past and shared ancestors.

I despise most of the 45%. I despise Alex Salmond and hobbit Sturgeon, who have fuel a Nationalist fervour based on lies. In my mind they are no better than CFK and Timmerman, using the lowest common denominator (Nationalism) to peddle propaganda.

The whinging lies of the Nationalist annoy both the English and probably the sane 55%.

There is a whole world of difference between hating Scot Nats and hating Scotland.

If you want to see true racism, listen to Sturgeon.

If Russia loses the place then it probably will be. We have the privilege of hosting the UK''s stock of nuclear weapons some 30 miles from the city AND the submarine fleet which makes it the no. one target in the event of hostilities.

Nice ship. I'm sure I have seen it before. At a guess I would say you were near Ferry road , on Shore road at Ardnadam when you took that picture, however, the first two seem to have been taken nearer Sandbank and all taken with a medium tele lens which distorts perspective. I'm surprised at snow on the hills as we are totally clear here and there did not seem to be any on Goatfell either...but again, it's been covered in cloud the last few days.
For the record, I could not be bothered going to the Benmore member's day yesterday as the weather was iffy and I have had experience of the ferry being off and having a 120 mile return trip to Ayr. As you know, the “Rest” is also dodgy after rain and that would mean going back via Inverary, Lochawe. Tyndrum and Glasgow...180 miles.
I will wait until March when the garden is in bloom.
