Hammond reiterates in Spain: no talks against the wishes of Gibraltar

Saturday, February 21st 2015 - 04:27 UTC
Full article 61 comments

The British and Spanish foreign ministers sought to highlight a renewed drive toward an ‘ad hoc’ dialogue on Gibraltar this week, but in doing so drew firm red lines that signaled just how difficult that task will prove. The coordinated message was positive and hinted at the possibility of talks ‘in the near future’ if a format could be agreed. But on core issues, there was no change. Read full article

Has anybody seen or heard of Gollum himself lately, he seems to have gone to ground, I do hope it's a grave he is in.

In reality, Margallo is increasingly isolated. The spanish thought they could overwhelm Gibraltar in a few months. Failed. The period has seen Gibraltar draw spain's illegal activities to the attention of the world. Plenty of countries concerned about nearby belligerent states ignoring international law. South Korea will not be browbeaten by the north. Japan will not be browbeaten by China. Ukraine will not be browbeaten by Russia. Ignoring human rights by keeping people waiting anything between 2 ans 8 hours to cross a frontier. Especially under the summer sun in spain. Ignoring the UN. Various provisions of the UN Charter. UNCLOS. Why doesn't spain go to the ICJ? Same reason argieland doesn't dare go to the ICJ. Of course, spain is a blustering bully. Every time a full size Royal Navy vessel makes an appearance, the spanish run!
Meanwhile Gibraltar is obtaining larger, more powerful and up to date vessels.

the border with gibraltar must be strongly controlled.
like the rest of the english colonies, that piece of rock bases its economy on smuggling and tax evasion.
    so, more controls are needed.
and nobody wants those stinky macacos in your own yard, eh??

about trilateral conversations, i thought the uk and its colonies had a foreign office, no?
then what the fuck has piggy pigardo got to do in those reunions?
the fatty fart blower has not entity to have any kind of meeting with any ministro de relaciones exteriores.

Oh dear not liking it, never mind, we have had years of diplomacy. If we say that the Gibraltarians and the Falklanders must be included in talks who can challenge that? Certainly not Spain and Argentina. SELF DETERMINATION RULES OK!

@5. Quite right. Spaniards, being hispanic latinos, are always smuggling and committing other crimes. The way that you profit from smuggling is to buy items that are cheaper in another country, illegally moving them to your own country and then selling them. Argies know this. They do it all the time in Chile and Urineguay. Little spain admits the incidence of smuggling has fallen. Spaniards now take a boat across the Bay of Gibraltar to load what they steal. Tax evasion? The European Commission says that spain is lying and there isn't any. Except for the spaniards that still try to get away with it. And, yes, there is plenty of evidence.

As for trilaterals, it's quite simple for someone with any intelligence. Not you, Pablo. There are only two areas in which Britain takes the lead. Defence and foreign relations. When it comes to, say, Catalonia, who takes the lead in everything. The spanish. At any point in time, the people of Gibraltar can demand independence. The people of Catalonia WANT independence but the colonialist, imperialist, overbearing spanish won't allow it. WE BRITISH went along with the scotch to have a vote on independence. The colonialist, imperialist, overbearing spanish won't even allow that.

Note that British Gibraltar Territorial Waters are a DOMESTIC matter. Arresting intruders or blowing them out of the water. Intruders into British Gibraltar Air Space are also a DOMESTIC matter. And can be countered by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.
@7. And who's a hypocritical twat? The so-called 'chagossians' are not a 'people'. Just a bunch of African ex-French slaves with a few Indians and Malays. They'll all be dead soon. Around your pitiful, broken country, don't you have 'governors'? Strange how your 'provinces' have to comply with the federal constitution. And the federal government gets to change the federal constitution when it likes. Wow, it's a dictatorship! Maybe if you had a clue what you were talking about?

@16. Who said there over a million Brits living in spain? Have you checked on how many no longer have the 'right' to return to the UK with full rights? They are 'semis'. Strange how 85.4% of the 53,012,456 people in ENGLAND are ENGLISH. That's 45 million 272 thousand 637. More than the entire population of the world's shitpit.

By the way, WE get plenty of RESPECT. Unlike argieland. Royal Navy vessels go to the aid of countries, unasked. Argie vessels don't. They've sunk. The Royal Air Force provides aid. Transports, combat cover where appropriate, surveillance, intelligence. Argie air force? No fuel. Wings fall off. British Army for engineers, hospitals and so forth. Argie army has trouble finding its boots.

Although we're not, it's good to be monoglot. If you can't speak English, you're barely sub-human.

when you are a 3rd class colony like gibraltar, the islets, etc, and you have no sovereignty, dignity or entity, you must be represented by the foreign minister of the colonizing country.

so, it will always be a bipartite meeting: the real owner of the land (ie. argentina, spain, ireland, you name the rest), and the invader country (ie. england, the uk, britain, whatever the fuck is the name of that bag of cats).

of course, that does not mean the england has the dignity required, but as we say here, es lo que hay.

Our elected Govt politicians represent us abroad in many places - and are recognised for what they are - the representatives of a democratically elected Govt. Oh Paul

I'm so glad you decide to stick around and showcase your Argentinean (or Peruvian or whatever) education.

Let us see...... Post 16..... perfect example!

    “imbecile”
That's me! Bahahahahaha I love insecurities. Feeds my ego. Don't stop.

“there are + 1 million britardeds living in spain”
Officially at ~311,000 and dropping every year. But can't blame them for moving to a poorer country so they can afford maids and let their pensions go further. Hmmmm prudence isn't a word used often in Argentina by anyone.
    http://www.ine.es/prensa/np854.pdf

“just a bunch of spanish living in that shithole called england.”
And yet that bunch is growing rapidly. Unlike you, some people enjoy working and travelling.

“not even the english want to live in england”
And yet England's population is 53.9 million and growing every year. Wow that's 7 million more than want to live in Spain......whose population is shrinking every year. 260,000 more migrate inwards than outwards. But I never expected you to be able to research actual facts. That would have entailed you receiving an adequate education.

“and sadly you have to understand them.”
Not everyone has problems with the English language; as displayed by you.

“the bad thing is that they are parasites of state aid.”
And yet the British economy is double the size of Spain's...... and bigger than all South America's Spanish speaking countries combined. Guess they can afford it.

“and the funny thing is that, since they are retarded monoglots, they can't even write “hola” unerringly.
then they ask why the fuck the whole world despises the britardeds.”
Yeah, that just came across as 'blah blah blah I'm uneducated but was forced to learn the global language of English'.

I understand but YOU obviously don't.
It's very simple. Argentina wants a group of islands that they have never owned and to which they have no legal title..
They consistently lie, threaten and bully the inhabitants.
They tried an unsuccessful invasion and were soundly rebuffed.
The have access to the ICJ to air their grievance but refuse to. Why ?
Their schoolchildren are indoctrinated with the Malvinas myth in a manner that China under Mao would recognise.
The prize for the Falklanders is, wait for it.....Argentinian citizenship !
Hardly the big lottery win !!!!!!
Following the engendered Hispanic trait, Spain tries the same with Gibraltar.
Rather than showing them the advantages of joining Spain, they show a mean spirited approach which only hardens the Gibraltarian's resolution to have as little to do with them as possible.
Both Spain and Argentina, in deep trouble, resort to the time worn solution of blaming others for their woes as a way of distracting their populace. A classic move as Hitler/Goebbels used against the Jews.
I see you moderated your language in your post...only one pejorative term and one hackneyed expletive.

I can now see why the sage of Mendoza is learning Chinese. It will be Argentina's official language - (with acknowledgement to Hepatia)- in 25 years.

@32. Oh, ho, ho. Argie masochism. In fact, worldwide argie masochism. Wonder how many people have read you proving what a total uneducated arse you are?

Doesn't it seem curious to you that Ministers of Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar travel to Brussels and meet with members of the European Commission in just the same way that ministers of any other EU member can? Does it seem curious that the European Commission sends out an investigating commission because Gibraltar asks for it? Just so that you know, Gibraltar has presented all the evidence of spain's illegal activities. Little spaiun is in the shite as every one of its 'accusations' is proved to be false.

And that takes us on the argieland. At least 182 years of lies! Have you been keeping track? How many visits by Members of the Legislative Assembly have been made to 'foreign' countries? Let's consider argieland's 'claim' to sovereignty. The May 4 1493 papal bull inter caetera. The Treaty of Tordesillas. So the United States belongs to spain, does it? Has the US been told? 1820. David Jewett. And the legitimacy of a pirate is....? 1828. Luis Vernet. And the legitimacy of a fraudster is.....? 1832. Thought Vernet was 'authorised' by the United Provinces of the River Plate. Where did the Republic of Buenos Aires get off appointing him as civil and military commandant? And a penal colony being set up by a band of murderers and rapists? Haven't seen anything legitimate yet! 1850 and a Convention of Settlement. No mention of the Falklands. The 20th and 21st centuries. Various General Assembly resolutions. None of which are binding.

So argieland has no valid claim. There is only ONE owner of the Falkland Islands. Variously Britain, Great Britain or the United Kingdom. But there can still be a bipartite negotiation. Between the British government and the Falkland Islands government. To hand over sovereignty to the new owners. And the defence treaty. Assuring the FI that Britain will obliterate attackers.

There is no dispute. The UK offered to go to the ICJ with S pain over the status of the Rock, Isthmus, territorial waters and airspace in the 1960s and she declined. You only get one chance - S pain's acquiesced. And RG tina - has a claim without a case. A joke claim.https://www.academia.edu/10490336/Argentinas_Illegitimate_Sovereignty_Claims

That's the way most treaties are signed. Like the treaty by which Spain seized Olivenca (and ignored the one it signed to give it back); like the one it signed to steal more Moroccan land around Melilla; like when it sent the army in to crush Catalonia in 1714. Gun to head“.

Besides - you ignore the second treaty. Versailles, 1784. When Spain was given Florida and Minorca in exchange for Gibraltar. Again.

So - no claim. No dispute.

As to your fellow troll's lunacy about ”economy based on smuggling / tax evasion“ - laughable. The CIA themselves described Spain as the ”money laundering capital of Europe”. Gibraltar is not even mentioned anywhere on these things.

Spain's problem is that it refuses to grow up.

Because a company is registered in Gibraltar does not necessarily mean that it is evading tax illegally. UK law allows companies to be registered abroad although trading in the UK . Tax avoidance , although morally wrong, is legal. Tax evasion is not.

    #56:

“septic tank” - That's not the name i use here. Please learn to type, moron. I can call you “moron” can't I, considering that you choose to misspell my name.

“gibraltar, you retarded macaco, is a tax haven.“

According to the legal uathorities on the matter - it is not. The EU, OECD etc all white-list Gibraltar. So - you are wrong.

”why the fuck they have 80.000 companies, being just 30.000 macacos, eh?” - First: there are 200 monkeys and they don't own companies. There are 30,000 people here.
Second - there are not 80k companies, but 18k. Go and read some stats on the subject, not popaganda and lies from Margallo. Besides - the reason there are a lot of companies is because we encourage enterprise. The UK, for example, has 2 million companies: I used to have three myself. If you understand enterprise and the business model (impossible for a Latino, I know) then you'd understand the numbers.

“as for contrabando y blanqueo de capitales, read this, you little monkey”

The EU can investigate, and has done many times. We have nothing to hide. In fact, we've had the tax code investigated 4 times in the last 4 years, and passed each time: could the 4 investigations be related to the fact that the commissioner in charge was - well - Spanish?

Besides - you need to read the original report here, not the PP propaganda. The actual outcome was that OLAF will investigate money-laundering on both sides - Gib and Spain - involved in the trade. But the report also made clear that the money-laundering is largely on the Spanish side, and they have clear evidence for that. Evidence which the PP denied, and on which they refuse to take action.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Spanish lies and corruption. Yet again.

You really are a sad little troll.
