A here today gone tomorrow foreign bank note isn't important.
What is important is Zebedee has been spudded and a new drilling campaign has commenced. Yipppeeee!
    Drill baby drill.

So a national deception going on for decades is considered “A symbol of passion that belongs to a nation’s heritage”.

How did they come up with that? “Hey, we've lied to our children, to our neighbours, to the entire world... let's commemorate that with a new banknote!”

It's actually kind of funny - I said recently that Argentina must have spent billions perpetuating the Malvinas Lie. Didn't think the next step was to print more.

I totally agree - its rather sick and twisted to “honour” “fallen soldiers” by publishing a bunch of lies.

Perhaps WE, here in Britain, should apologise to the argie 'government'. Our courageous and highly professional armed forces only killed 649, wounded 1,657 and took 11,313 prisoners out of the invading scum. Perhaps they should have told us their plans. We could have turned the figures round the other way. They could have had a 50,000 peso bill! Damn our lack of consideration.

When I first moved to BA I was at the weekend fair in San Telmo and was shocked at all the INVALID/Outdated Argentinian currency that is on sale for collectors. Their currency lasts about a decade.
They are due for a new one shortly
The 50 peso is worth U$6 next year it will may be worth U$0,60 who knows and who cares?
    Its all they have
    and
    its sad.

When in reality, it is truly only Izal...

Relax Islanders. In a few years you will be considering joining Argentina. It may be hard to imagine today, but it will eventually happen. It won't be a war--happily those crazy warmongers are gone for good--it will just be a combination of things. Why do you think the Malvinas will be any different from the rest of the colonies, empires' possessions that seemed eternal in the past?

Are you this deluded? I don't suspect that the Falkland Islands will remain under the sovereignty of the UK for ever but that does not mean they will allow themselves to be subjugated by Argentine. The likely long term scenario is an independent Falkland Islands in a partnership with the UK.

No one but the islanders will make this decision (the UK and UN will make sure of this) and your government has consistently demonstrated they don't give a fuck about the islanders so why would they ever choose to “join” with Argentina. Not to mention your basket case of an economy and pervasive corruption.

Why don't you do both yourselves and the islanders a favour and drop your ridiculously antiquated and insulting claims. The rest of the world has moved on from colonialism except it would seem Argentina and your buddies China and Russia.

    Enrique

The Falklands are no different from “colonies” and “empires possessions” in the past.

Argentina WAS a colony now it governs itself
Brazil WAS a colony now it governs itself
Canada WAS a colony now it governs itself
Australia WAS a colony now it governs itself
Falkands WERE a colony now they govern themselves

Argentina are irrelevant in all this. You have been told, and believed a whole set of lies by your government...silly Enrique.

    @21 Enrique

You've had 33yrs to PROVE to the Falkland Islanders that:

    a) Argentina is not like the military Junta
    b) That being Argentine would be beneficial to them

Yet in that time all you have done is PROVE:

    a) Argentina is JUST LIKE the military Junta in attitude and arrogance
    b) Being Argentine is a one-way ticket to poverty, corruption and being a laughing stock of the world

It is doubtful, given Argentina's treatment of the Falkland Islanders since 1982, that they would voluntarily join Argentina. In the last 33 yrs you have shown an entirely new generation of Falkland Islanders (who don't remember the war) what a bunch of mean, sadistic and untrustworthy people Argentinians are. So why would they voluntarily join Argentina?

Face it, Enrique, whilst successive Argentine governments use the Falkland Islands as a distraction to the great unwashed masses, and constantly tell lies and invoke policies designed to attack the FI's, then you will NEVER persuade the islanders that being Argentine is a good idea.

If you are truly serious about gaining the Islanders trust the 1st thing you MUST do as a nation is apologise UNRESERVEDLY for the 1982 invasion of their homes. The next thing you must do is drop your sovereignty claims and acknowledge their human right to self determination.

Once these things are done then the FI's and Argentina can move forwards, and who knows maybe then in a 100 yrs or so the Falkland Islanders might just volunteer to join Argentina.

But we all know that Argentina is too juvenile and far too impatient to do that.

In 100 yrs time the Falkland Islands will either be:

    a) a British Overseas Territory
    b) a full part of the United Kingdom
    c) a full part of another country (most likely Chile)
    d) completely independent

My money will be either on b) or d)

But the only people who get to choose will be the Falkland Islanders themselves. Argentina has NO SAY WHATSOEVER in the future of the Falkland Islands.

    Truth hurts, doesn't it?

#23 don't forget that the USA was several colonies and now they govern themselves.

Cuba was a colony, with the aide of the American soldiers AND U$....they govern themselves. Unfortunately in a non democratic manner.

Can someone enlighten me about this “25 year” crap the trolls are blogging all the time? I think someone gave them a script to repeat that and they continue to believe that saying it will make it happen. Trolls, Argentina will get the Falklands when the USA get's Cuba. 90 miles......it should be USA.

    @21 Enrique

“Why do you think the Malvinas will be any different from the rest of the colonies, empires' possessions that seemed eternal in the past?”

If by sour grapes you are referring to the Falklands you should consider renaming Argentina the Malvinas (Sour Grapes/Rotten Vineyard, Fungal infected Grapes (Mildewtina?) because Argentina's policy is one of 'Sour Grapes'.

Your suggestion, phrased in a question, that the Falklands won't be different from Britain's ex-possessions is correct.

India chose self determination and became Independent,(instead of becoming Japanese) as did Canada,(they didn't want to be part of the US or France), Australia, New Zealand, Burma,(all these three didn't want to be Japanese) Pakistan(They didn't want to be part of India), Zimbabwe(Who didn't want to be part of another African country) etc etc etc etc etc.

The Falklands have increased their self governing powers since 1982, but as with their former colonies, Britain will not be transferring the Falklands (or Sour Grapes as you prefer to call them) to another colonial power (i.e. Argentina )but will support them until Independence.

The scenario of the Falklands breaking away from the UK in rebellion like the USA did (and like Argentina did from Spain), is possible but unlikely, when Britain would support any independence bid in any case.

    @21
“it will just be a combination of things”

By coining this vague phrase, you are showing your prediction is rubbish as you cannot be specific why the Islanders will join Argentina, because, you are unable to give specific reasons.

I can definitely say there are a combination of things that will mean the Islands will not become a colony of Argentina.

Others have spelled out exactly how that will be so, though if you want me to be less than vague, I can present you with several valid reasons why your scenario is as unlikely as Argentina accepting British sovereignty of Patagonia.

“ The new bill was meant to honor those who fell during the 1982 Malvinas War ”

Hmmm, so that's why they put a picture of a character from.......1833 and not from 1982 on the note?

And it failed to show Rivero & co killing Vernet's South American born guy and forcing the rest of the unarmed settlers to hide on a nearby island.

Still, I guess it's a parody of 1982, a gaucho allowed to stay on the Islands by the Brits takes advantage of the lack of a British garrison, ( absolutely no disrespect to the 80 RMs that severely delayed the Argentine's invasion plans in 1982), takes the piss and bullies the unarmed inhabitants.

Still, it's only toy money for the Mythical Malvinas board game.
