The replica of an image at the Argentine Darwin cemetery and which was blessed by Pope Francis arrived this week to Argentina's Antarctica base Marambio, the last leg of its passage to Tierra del Fuego and austral islands, “where it will enshrined on 2 April, on a new anniversary of the Malvinas war”, according to the country's official news agency Telam. Before everyone starts on the usual diatribes, may I just point out a little irony within the Pope's 'creationist' teachings and Darwinian Theory?
    ----------
    So, they went to 92 cities, all supporting false teachings but never reached the Cemetery named after the man that proved all religious teachings to be lies?
    lol!
    PS:
    There was never a 'Malvinas War'.
    There was only ever an illegal invasion of the Falklands Islands by Argentina and a very embarassing defeat by the losers.
    The only reason the UK did not 'nuke' BsAs was because the US Pres. RR
    begged the UK to 'not humiliate them'.

    Anyone from Argentina has the US to thank that they are not dead or sufferring from radiation-sickness/cancer/tumours...

    Far be it from me to state the obvious, but truly an example that fact is stranger than fiction. What can you do but shake your head?

    Commemorating this on April 2nd is (absolutely) no different than if Germany (still) commemorated the invasion of Western Poland on Sept 1st.

    Absolutely bizarre and revolting, in every sense. I confess that I just can't wrap my head around it.

    As a Catholic I must say that I find this totally abhorrent and shame on the Church for allowing this intervention into the Falklands/Malvinas dispute. What absolute nonsense to permit our faith to be used in this way!

    There is no such thing as “Our Lady of Malvinas” - this a political invention!

    @2
    I totally understand. It is hard to believe that any country would celebrate a War in that they were so comprehensively defeated.
    @3
    I do defend to the death your right to your beliefs, as long as they do not impinge on my own (athiest) reasonings.
    I think you are wrong, but will always support your right to disagree with me. What I can not abide is Extreme Islam/Extreme Christianity/et al that says, if I do not join, then I should be put to death.

    @5 You say “I think you are wrong”! About what? To register my total objection to this blatant propaganda which has no basis?

    As far as my faith is concerned that is my business - not yours! If you choose to be an atheist, so be it - none of my concern!

    @6
    I do not disagree with your objection to this 'blatant propaganda'.
    I object also to this BS. It is a conflation of indigenous idols mixed with the pre-protestant chistianity and a dangerous mix of nationalism/populist-socialism.

    Outcome? see Germany 1935..

    re: Your Faith
    Yes. I do think you are wrong. I think you are wrong about your, obviously deeply held belief, in the Catholic Faith.
    That is my opinion.
    I still respect the your human right to hold such superstitions, should it comfort you in this complicated and somewhat confusing life we all live.
    You have the right to lie to yourself, fine.
    I respect your belief, but I also hold firm my right to discount it, to speak against it.
    You brought up the subject “@3 ” As a Catholic etc...”

    I merely pointed out some irony, obviously it 'got your goat'.

    For that I make no apologies.

    I hope we can continue you this discussion in a civillised manner, should you wish to do so.

    @7 Are you a fool?
    I identified myself as a Catholic in order to justify my criticism of this nonsensical behaviour by some Catholics in Argentina. What they are doing has nothing to do with their faith but with their attempts to justify their sovereignty claims through dubious religious posturing.
    So, please, just keep to the subject - my beliefs are nothing to do with you just as your lack of religious faith has nothing to do with me. Don't make a “mountain out of a molehill”!

    @8 Are you a fool?
    Well, possibly, but one hopes not.

    Thank you for you clarification of your stance when dealing with 'this nonsensical behaviour by some Catholics in Argentina.'
    I take your further coments 'on-board' as it where...
    ..and do agree about the 'posturing'.
    Equally, I agree that if we wish to have any kind of political dicussion, then all religious/atheist opinions should be put aside.
    I apoligise for digressing. It was not helpful. Sorry.

    Anyhoo.. To try and stay on topic, it is of interest to me of this conflation in Lat Am of the Catholic religion and Indigenous beliefs. This is apparent in Vnzla as there is often a mixture of Catholic/Voodoo/Indigenous belief system on the coast, where-as inland it it as strictly catholilic/indengous mix, and the cities is pure catholic or non-believer, with a few hippy,bhuddist types about.

    Anyway, '”our lady of the malvinas'

    “The religious image is a copy of the Virgin of Lujan, Argentina's saint patron and which in 2009 members of the Malvinas Families Commission took to the Falklands for the inauguration of a memorial in the Argentine cemetery at Darwin”

    It is difficult to get ones head around this mix of emotional, nationalistic and religious clap trap. Does “Our Lady of the Malvinas” hold the same spiritual status and credibility in the church as “Our Lady of Fatima”? Will the Catholic Church officially declare the Argentine vision of “Our Lady of the Malvinas” ‘worthy of belief’ like it did for the visions of “Our Lady of Fatima” one hundred years ago?

    “The Virgin should peregrinate all of Argentina.” (The mind boggles!)
    ‘Peregrinate’ sounds a lot like a royal progress. Except in this case, in reality, there isn’t much progress occurring. But hey, who cares about reality, this is Argentina and the Catholic Church slowly ‘peregrinating’ together in cloud cuckoo land.

    Meanwhile back in the world, the Falklands move further and further from Argentina, religious images, visions and the partisan intervention by the Pope in a diplomatic dispute notwithstanding.

    Finally it is NOT the Argentine cemetery at Darwin; it is the cemetery for Argentine soldiers at Darwin. This final resting place for the Argentine soldiers killed in the Falklands war, is generously permitted to exist by the inhabitants of the Falkland Islands. It’s a shame the Argentina doesn’t extend the same courtesy to the Falklanders and recognise THEIR right to exist. The Pope and Church are strangely silent on this abuse of human rights by Argentina.

    Can one just say.
    ,,,,,,,,,,,
    The replica of an image at the Argentine Darwin cemetery and which was blessed by Pope Francis

    1, has the pope been told of this,
    2, has the pope actually blessed this to be enshrined in the frozen wastes of Antarctica
    3, is this not just insulting and using the pope name,

    4, is it then not apparent that thousands of Malvinas patriots will amass upon the Antarctic to pray to this replica , and in doing do technically is destroying that part of it, all in the name of, [what ever fools call it ]

    5 and lastly, is it now to be taken as true, that these twits actually believe in fairies , personally I think they are totally of their rockers.

    still,

    This medieval claptrap shows clearly why Argieland is so backward along with all other countries that indulge in it as the predominant religion. At least this Pope has dispensed with a lot of the claptrap, its progress. Henry VIII might have been a cruel despot but he did largely liberate England from this load of old tosh, even if it was for his own ends.

    I do not usually engage in debate with you, due your preference to take it off-topic/ dis-inform etc.
    However, in this case I will make an exception, for a limited time (ie: until you bore me...)

    (1):
    I can tell anyone I want to that they are a liar. As long as I can back it up, which I can, see (2)
    (2) I can prove evolution, there is scientific proof, but I can not prove the existence of 'God'.
    Nor can you.
    First, please establish of which 'god' you speak of... a jewish god, a muslim god, a christian god?
    Or one of the many, many hindi 'deities'?.
    Maybe Thor? Or Juno or Minerva?
    Maybe you speak of Zeus or Demeter?

    Voicey says:
    “You can no more prove evolution and the existence of life than he can prove the existence of God...
    You are the only person that is wrong in that little debate....”
    I say, don't even go there you fool. I have already exposed you as an idiot, and I am quite happy to embarrass you further.

    One more thing;

    'There are no gods but me'

    If you don't understand that philosphical argument, then you have already lost the debate.

    Oh, how precious this is.

    Didn't the argies accuse the Falklanders of 'shooting' the little plastic dolly at Darwin argies cemetery?

    It turned out to be a hammer if I remember correctly.

    Cue second try: why not shoot it for real this time and blame the argies for inflating idiocy among the Malvinas population, wherever they are! I recommend a 7.62x51 rifle with a 168 grain Sierra MatchKing bullet. The argies in Ushuaia won't know what's going on, they have to dance around piles of human crap: they STILL don't have a shit pump working after THREE years! Funny or what.

    Need to be careful though, this combination has a full field danger area of 2,400 M radius. Who knows how many Malvinas veterans might be killed? Bit difficult to tell if this Bonetti character is anything to go by.

May I remind you that it was British machismo that cost the British so dearly during the Battle of Goose Green, as is pointed out in the book NOT MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES by Spenzer Fitz-Gibbon. With the CO of 2 Para literally breathing down the neck of the OC A Company, Major Phil Neame offered to move forward his D Company in order to assist Major Dair Farrar-Hockley's A Company pinned down and suffering heavy casualties at the foot of Darwin Hill, but Lieutenant-Colonel 'H' Jones went berserk and told Neame to “Get off the effing radio. A CRUEL DESPOT...? Horribile dictu...! HIS HOLINESS, THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND...! The GREAT WIDOWER, who lost several wives..! Certainly, he entertained himself by hanging catholics as rebels and burning lutherans as heretics...but it was rather “peccata minuta” in dealing with the murderer of Sir Thomas More , Bishop Fisher, and some unknown martyrs. You, who speak of “idolatry”, “popishness” etc. may remember that your heads were squeezed by this monster´s hind leg during a good number of years. He considered you beyond redemption, and consequently suppressed Purgatory of his church Credo. And, save for the above-mentioned handful of heroes, all his Kingdom, his Commons, his Lords, his Clergy, took the solemn oath of Obedience. They have learned very well the first (and last) Tudors Article of Faith: “The Prince´s wrath means death..!”.

    You are quite right, there is no point talking to him.

    He will do his best to change the subject to himself, or try to show off in some way.
    Quite boring, just as his life must be.

    My own theory is that he lives alone. It wouldn't be surprising, given his bullying attitude towards people.

    “You can no more prove evolution and the existence of life than he can prove the existence of God...”

    Not true. The overwhelming evidence for evolution is in our DNA. One can track changes (genotypic and epigenetic) in the DNA of related animals that accounts precisely their phenotypic differences. And life can be proved by the electrical activities in the hearts and brains of a person, regardless of whether they are conscious or not. In contrast the only evidence for God relates to ancient manuscripts written by long dead authors we can no longer cross-examine.

    All your posts pointing to the fact that the British forces were not perfect during the Falklands War are fine but in that case why did the Brits win?

    Don't you think that the Argentines showed just a little bit of incompetence?

    Can you explain why the French Mercenaries on Pebble Island left in a Twin Otter just before the SAS arrived?

    Why didn't they stay if the Argentines were so great?

    It was bit of a fail invading somewhere where you weren't wanted and your country still doesn't get it!

    downunder: British War Correspondent Max Hastings in his book Battle For The Falklands claims that 'H' Jones was shot in the back of the neck which calls into question the claim that he was killed charging an Argentine machinegun position on top of Darwin Hill, unless of course the Brit CO was retreating. According to Spencer Fitz-Gibbon in the book Not Mentioned In Despatches, Sergeants Blackburn and Norman who gave 'H' Jones first aid, noticed bullet holes on the backside but no exit wounds on the frontside, which would mean the CO was shot from behind, by one or more British paras armed with Sterling submachinguns, a standard issue in 2 Para and an oddity among the Argentine forces. The Argentines were in the main armed with FAL automatic rifles which fire high velocity bullets. Now the Sterlings fire low velocity bullets, ideal for close quarter combat like clearing trenches.

    Now the claim 'H' Jones was shot by his own men is not an Argentine invention, with the Royal Marines also making the same claim:

    “He was fatally shot in the back during an assault on Goose Green in the Falklands War in 1982, and the Marines like to contend that, contrary to the official reports, his own men had done it.” (Amongst the Marines: The Untold Story, Steven Preece, Random House, 2011)

    Firstly, I would like to say, that all this discussion is just a diversion from the Article. Namely, the weird Pagan practices of an obviously backward Nation, lost in its own mythology and unable to cope with modern realities.
    Secondly, I am able to denounce Alberto Bertorelli entirely.
    For example: @78 Alberto Bertorelli quotes from 'H Jones VC: The Life & Death of an Unusual Hero, John Wilsey, Random House, 2003'.
    Random House, the Publisher say;
    Synopsis
    'A remarkable book - a worthy tribute both to the man John Wilsey calls 'an unusual hero' and to the ethos of the British Army in which he lived and died.' John Keegan in his ForewordThis is the biography of the Falklands War hero whose death in the battle for Darwin and Goose Green was one of the turning points in the whole campaign. It is written with the consent of H Jones's widow, Sara,'

    The quote that Alberto Bertorelli provides in @78 is from Chapt Eleven, the very Chapter which sets out to expose and refute all the lies and falsehoods that have been spread, mainly by Argentina since his death.

    This 'Alberto Bertorelli ' obviously just uses Google to find quotes that suit his views, but does no academic research.

    I am pleased to expose him as both a liar and a fool.

    I can only hope that other readers here take into account his lack of 'due diligence', and benefit from mine own.

    #86 “Now if you can prove the contrary, it would be greatly appreciated”.

    I don’t need to prove anything; the official record of this event speaks for itself.

    I will however, repeat what I posted earlier: “Have you never heard of defence in depth?” In case you don’t understand what that means, the Argentine foxholes were deployed in depth and H Jones was in the middle of them.

    Apart from the dubious conjecture of a few conspiracy theorists, the only evidence that you have adduced to support your theory is the bullet wound and that certainly does not prove with any reliability the he was shot by a British weapon. There are a number of reasons why there may not have been an exit wound.

    Your contention regarding this matter lacks credibility and defies logic.

    It suits Argentines of your ilk to latch onto rumours like this, no matter how improbable, in order to blacken the name of a warrior who made a huge contributing to the British victory in the Falklands.

    Like I said if you are gullible enough to believe the great Argentine Malvinas lie, you will believe anything.

    Britain won the Falklands war, Britain deserved to win the Falklands war because Argentina was the aggressor and in the wrong. Get over it!

    C'mon, cut Alberto a break.

    It was an embarrassing time for ARGENTINA.

    They lost a conflict on their own doorstep.

    A conflict they planned for years, and prepared for well in advance.

    They were supplied from bases a few hundred km away vs a foe from 14,000 km away.

    The Argentines had superior numbers of troops and planes. The Argentines were dug in, and they controlled the airport.

    According to Alberto, the Args fought more bravely, and 'better' , whilst the Brits were shooting their officers in the back because they were afraid to advance, and we're running away from their positions.

    and yet.. the Brits still won somehow, taking more than 11,000
    prisoners.

    Poor Alberto!

    As it has been pointed out, Alberto is trying to distract from the real story:

    They are calling for 'divine intervention' to deliver them the Falklands, as they have no hope otherwise.

    Now, they have no dignity either, with this silly story!

    3) No moral right to the Falklands.

    There are many ways you could be shot in the back. Being stationary and turning round to look at something. Over running an enemy position in the dark. Battle lines are fluid--men can be scattered in the dark and be unsure where the fire is coming from. Endless possibilities..

    Frank: Okay let's examine some of the British lies, during just one confrontation, Operation Rosary on 2 April 1982. The British Marines lied about destroying an amphibious personnel carrier on 2 April 1982. They also claimed to have destroyed that day an Argentine landing craft full with troops, but that was proven to be another lie by British historian Martin Middlebrook in his book The Fight For The Malvinas. Corporal Geordie Gill along with Corporal Terry Pares also lied about shooting dead several Argentines outside Government House. Amazing, but true.

    Let's see what British historian Martin Middlebrook actually did write :

    “Thus ended the only action of the day for the 2nd Marines. The fact that no-one was observed to emerge from the first Amtrac to be engaged encouraged the Royal Marines to think that one of their rocket rounds had punched a hole in it and that some of the machine-gun fire had penetrated the hole and caused severe casualties among the men inside. Local civilians who observed the action optimistically supported this view later. There was no rocket-hit, however, just the scars of ninety-seven machine gun bullets. Only one argentine marine was lightly wounded by a sliver of metal cutting his hand.”

    Martin Middlebrook, Argentine Fight for the Falklands, p 37.

    There are lies, damned lies, and desperate Argentine attempts to comfort themselves with deceitful propaganda.

    @105

    Just to avoid any further confusion, let me explain my understanding of what a “lie” is: it's when somebody says something they know to be false.

    It's subtle, I know, but this is quite different from, for example, being mistaken about something.

    IN this respect, I am sure you will not of you read British historian Martin Middelbrook's text again, that there is no suggestion that anybody lied about anything. In fact it's quite the reverse. He explicitly attributes the Amtrac incident to a mistake rather than a lie.

    The only “lie” here, therefore is Signor Bertorelli's lie that British historian Martin Middelbrook supports his allegation that Marines lied about damage to the Amtrac. But British historian Martin Middelbrook has quite clearly said no such thing.

    Then we have Signor Bertorelli's allegation that British Marines claim to have destroyed that day an Argentine landing craft full with troops, “was proven to be another lie by British historian Martin Middlebrook”.

    Once again, what British historian Martin Middlebrook actually writes is :

    “The claim made on their [a party of 6 Marines]behalf that they holed and sank an Argentina landing craft with a rocket projectile at the harbour mouth is unfounded” (p41)

    And that's it. All of it. That's the entire text that British historian Martin Middlebrook devotes to “proving” this “lie”. And the only problems with Signor Bertorelli's allegation are that a) there was no suggestion that anybody lied about anything, b) not even a claim was made by British Marines and c) British historian Martin Middlebrook has made no effort to prove or disprove anything.

    I “Think” therefore that Signor Bertorelli stands fair and square in the Malvinista tradition of unsupported specious bullshit and is therefore deserving of exposure, rather than apology.

    HansNiesund:

    Lieutenant Bill Trollope, with No. 2 Section, describes the action:

    “ Six Armoured Personnel Carriers began advancing at speed down the Airport Road. The first APC was engaged at a range of about 200 to 250 metres. The first three missiles, two 84 mm and one 66 mm, missed. Subsequently one 66 mm fired by Marine Gibbs, hit the passenger compartment and one 84 mm Marines [George] Brown and [Danny] Betts hit the front. Both rounds exploded and no fire was received from that vehicle. The remaining five APCs which were about 600 to 700 metres away deployed their troops and opened fire. We engaged them with GPMG, SLR and sniper rifle [Sergeant Shepherd] for about a minute before we threw a white phosphorus smoke grenade and leap-frogged back to the cover of gardens. Incoming fire at that stage was fairly heavy, but mostly inaccurate.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982_invasion_of_the_Falkland_Islands

    Thank you for proving my point. Trollope's account is entirely consistent with Middlebrook's analysis, and in consequence entirely inconsistent with your original claim of lying Marines exposed by Middlebrook.

    But speaking of consistency, this is entirely typical of Malvinista efforts to construct enormous anglophobic edifices on the shakiest of foundations, and the extremely peculiar practice of providing references that undermine your own argument. Do keep it up.

    HansNiesund: We are talking about an official post-battle report coming from the NP8901 War Diary. In other words the Royal Marines involved in the action claimed to have hit an Argentine amphibious personnel carrier with two anti-tank rockets, that Lt. Trollope says exploded. In other words, the Royal Marines lied. For the full story and the Argentine version of the failed British rocket attacks I leave you the following:

    @113

    And thank you once more for confirming my point:

    “The Amtrac on the right manoeuvred itself off the road into a little depression and as it did so, disembarked the Marines inside out of view. This encouraged the Royal Marines to think that Marine Mark Gibbs had scored a direct hit on the passenger compartment of the APC.”

    A mistaken belief is not the same as a lie. A lie is a deliberate intent to deceive by making a statement that is known to be false.

    One example would be your claim that British historian Martin Middlebrook has provided evidence in support of your smear campaign, but this is pretty small potatoes in terms of the general levels of Argentine mendacity surrounding the Falklands.

    Who writes Wikipedia ?
    Read below.
    britishempire.co.uk/forces/armycampaigns/.../moodybrook.
    Moody Brook was the barracks of the NP8901 team on the islands. In this picture you can see the accomodation block on left, galley and store in the centre and the signals room/officer/sgt mess and accomodation on the right. It was the first target of attack by the Argentinians on the morning of April 2nd and the rooms were systematically destroyed by grenades in a text book example of house clearing. It was later claimed by the Argentinians that orders had been given to not harm anyone on the islands during the invasion. Whilst this was possibly true for the civilian population, the evidence at Moody Brook suggests that this instruction was not intended to be applied to the Royal Marine defenders. Fortunately, there were no Royal Marines in the building as it was attacked as they had all taken up defensive positions.
