Venezuela's parliament has granted President Nicolas Maduro decree powers for the rest of 2015 in a move he says is to defend the country from US meddling but opponents decry as evidence of autocracy. In a noisy National Assembly session, ruling Socialist Party legislators, who have a majority, applauded the “Enabling Law” as a legitimate response to a US declaration that Venezuela is a security threat and sanctions on seven officials. Never going to happen. Every SA country supports that dictator.....I say let ALL of SA rot in their own socialist, commie juices. Let them trade only with China and Russia and not Europe and the USA. Afterall who needs us ...right.

He is hampered by his poor background, lack of schooling and limited intellect.

This nonsense is all he can do to rouse the rabble that he sprang from: and it will work to some extent.

I see the porker Tania Diaz is still getting fed while the rest of the country go hungry.

Once the 'economy' goes into another free-fall MADuro will be out shooting the imperialists in his citizens: those who rail against him.

I would say he is hampered by his ideology. The people of VeneCuba are going to suffer terribly. Pity. But if they can't see what is going on they deserve it. Have they been living in a bubble for the last 60 years while Cuba chugged along with its communist policies?

”They (the United States) want to stick their hands into Venezuela's wealth, just as they have done in other countries,“ ruling party legislator Tania Diaz said”..

VZ's wealth ??? it's been squandered by the commie government, there's nothing left to put one's hands on, except maybe around her fat neck and squeeze hard...

What’s the betting that the elections are ruled out by decree?

Deafening silence from the rest of LatNam.

Far too busy shouting about Yankee Imperialist interference.

Particularly liked “stick their hands into Venezuela's wealth”.

    What wealth is that then?

Here's some useful ideas. Mercosur and unasur designated as terrorist organisations. US no longer purchases gas or oil from latam. A blockade and no-fly zones. Latam deportations. Scour the US for the scum.

In a search for clarity here; Why, exactly, does he need 'Decree Powers' to 'fight the imperialists'? He already has a majority in Congress, so why does he require powers to over-rule them?
It seems a very vague excuse.

Also, “stick their hands into Venezuela's wealth”.
Hmm... during the 15/16 years of Chavismo, Vnzla earnt over $800 billion in oil revenue, but is going begging to Russia and China for MORE loans.
Anybody like to clarify that for me?

Equally, Vnzla doesn't fight any external wars but has more Generals than the US Army and Marine Corps. combined. Go figure that one!

    @9
Maduro played the 'gringo go home' Card.
They can't ever criticise this, as that is their trump card too.
If in doubt, blame the USA.
If you are under-siege internally, blame the USA.
If in you are in need, blame the USA for not caring.

As Venezuela has as much oil as Saudi Arabia - when are the population going to put two and two together and work out their government must be doing something wrong.

I can't see how extra powers will protect Venezuela from the USA. If Obama and Co really wanted to they could squash Venezuela like an insignificant bug on their shoe.

The bottom line is that all Mad-Mad aims for is to stay in power and protect the ideology he believes in. Nothing else is relevant to him.

@12. I'm curious about your use of the word 'ideology'. Is corruption, criminality, degeneracy, larceny, mendacity, an 'ideology? MADurine has to be removed. And anyone with the same ideas. What a shame that the C-24 tries to use its non-existent brain cells on democratic territories. Perhaps they could turn their attention to dictatorships like VeneCuba!

The USA doesn't even need to invade, should they even wish to, (and they don't), they just need to stop refining vnzlan crude. Cut off the dollar supply and vnzla would collapse in a few short weeks.

Any way, it is all just a bogey man used by Maduro to control the uneducated underclass.
