Venezuela has placed a full page ad in The New York Times decrying what it charges are “tyrannical” attempts by the US government to undermine its socialist system. The ad declaring that “Venezuela is not a threat” comes amid mounting tensions between the two countries after President Nicolás Maduro this month accused Washington of plotting to oust him and ordered the US Embassy in Caracas to slash staffing levels. Disclaimer & comment rulesWhat's really upsetting is that the CIA linked the website of Migbelis Castellanos to anyone wanting to investigate Maduro's claims. It was very diplomatic as it was not derogatory, but quickly changed the thoughts do almost all the males that investigated.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 08:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0First, I agree with Venezuela. They are NOT a threat.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 10:14 am - Link - Report abuse 0However they are NOT Latin America. Just one country.
The People of the Falkland Islands have voted overwhelmingly (99.8%) whom they want to rule them.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 10:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0The Falklands are peaceful having never attacked a nation.
The Falklands have no WMD.
Will Venezuela immediately announce their FULL support for the People of the Falkland Islands?
The sanctions are against 7 vnzlan individuals, and block them from going shopping in Miami or laundering their dirty money in the USA.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 10:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0There is no attempt by the USA to 'rule Vnzla by Decree', only Maduro wanted this, and now he has it.
South America can not and should not continue to give importance to relations with the West, particularly with the United States. Our goals and interests are antagonistic. Any initiative for rapprochement between the English America and South America will only bring more pain and suffering to both peoples.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 11:12 am - Link - Report abuse 0The only possible aid is the complete forgetfulness and indifference between the two peoples.
So do not agree with this initiative of the Venezuelan government to publish article in Saxon media.
A leaf from TMBOA then?
Mar 20th, 2015 - 11:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0Well it worked well for them, NOT, and this little tirade will do nothing but show the world what a bunch of crooks they are.
Implosion this year for Venezuela?
@5
Mar 20th, 2015 - 11:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0Please explain this statement;
Any initiative for rapprochement between the English [speaking] America and South America will only bring more pain and suffering to both peoples.
I can't personally see how better relations between Vnzla, (the subject of the article), and the USA, (or Canada as well), will 'bring more pain and suffering' to the US, or Canada...
How will this pain happen? Why would some of the most sophisticated and powerful countries in the world choose a path to pain?
How could LatAm possiblly cause pain to them?
Perhaps you have some special knowledge?
The current pain and suffering in Vnzla is a direct result of chavismo rejection of the only people that might be willing to assist them, the USA and Canada.
PS: I didn't know that The Saxons' still had their own media...
The Saxons invaded England, from the fifth century on, and did not come from modern Saxony, although they were a Germanic tribe. They were were from the northwestern areas of (now) modern Germany - Jutland and Schleswig-Holstein. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxons) according to the writings of Ptolemy.
The Saxon invasion took place at the time of the collapse of Roman authority across its empire. Angles, Jutes, Frisians and other tribes also invaded or migrated to Britain in the same era.
I'm sure journalists from the NYT where there to cover the story, or did the Saxons post lots of 'hilarious' photos on Facebook?
Do tell us more about the 'Saxon Media'.
pur-lease...
@7 Mr/Ms Ilsen
Mar 20th, 2015 - 11:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0As you can see through countless articles published in this prestigious media Falklands Islands and also through endless reviews posted on this English-language channel, it is impossible that any explanation provided by any legitimate South American citizen is reasonably understood by the participants of the forum.
So I have to decline your invitation.
Tibi gratias ago pro intellectu.
@8
Mar 20th, 2015 - 12:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Mercopress is published from Montevideo, Uruguay, not from The Falkland Islands. http://en.mercopress.com/about-mercopress
Also, what is a legitimate South American citizen? Is that some-one who is not an illegal immigrant, or like one of those many thousands trying to enter the EU or USA?
PS: Your Latin is appalling, 3/10
PPS: Please accept my invitation to tell us more about this 'Saxon Media' you say is published in the USA. Please explain the difference of 3800 miles/6200 km (and 20 centuries !!!!!!!!). Oh please explain how that works in 'your world'.

Mar 20th, 2015 - 12:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I think #8 misspelled illegitimate.
@10 Chicureo
Mar 20th, 2015 - 12:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0haha! True!
he also neatly avoided my request @7 to explain the first part of my post, as to exactly HOW, in this case Vnzla, is going to cause 'pain and suffering' for the USA/Canada.
He didn't even explain my secondary request. Just said I wouldn't understand because I am not a '[il]legimate South American citizen' whilst having no knowledge of my heritage!! heehee!
Brasiliero, would you care to respond on both points now?
serious. If the United States to attack venezuela. they will face half the continent. and I doubt they want this. not managed to defeat vietnam the more all Latin countries want to see the answers of the arrogant Americans who do not know anything about the world ...

They seem to have a media empire, but I could find no news about Venezuela...
#12 Chile would like those Americans to invade us first. They can send battalions of tourists to our resorts, armadas of cruise ships to visit our ports and squadrons of investors where ever they wish. Our counterattack will consist of selling them millions of tons of exports.

How sad. You believe the lie. The USA has no intention of attacking Vnzla, this is Chavismo bullshit.
(although I do wonder why you say, they will face half the continent. Even if true, why only half?)
@ 13 Chicureo
Thank you for the info. I humbly retract my assertation that ''the Saxons' have no media empire.
:-)
As we can see from this link http://www.thesaxon.org/about-us/
the UK, Cheshire town of Sandbach, (pop. 39,145), has a new monthly newspaper, The Saxon, launched in February 2013 – packed with local news, events and sport.
Written by local journalists and published and printed in South Cheshire, the glossy, high-quality magazine is delivered free each month to 7,000 homes across the town.
Professionally distributed door-to-door, The Saxon is available from various outlets in the town and surrounding villages.
Wow!
I stand corrected!
(but secretely pleased to know that this tiny, local British Newpaper/Advertorial Glossy) has complete control of the New York Times and most of the English-speaking Press Worldwide, they must be very, very rich!!)
Obviously just another plot, of course!
By Gad! Those spooks at MI6 are awfully clever chaps aren't they?
Did you read that the Sandbach Library will be closed on Saturday and Monday March 14 and 16 for the start of improvements to the 45-year-old building.
Obviously GCHQ are installing a new 'Listening Post' !!!!!!!!!!!!!! All South Americans beware!
:-))))))))))))))))
@1. 'the CIA linked the website of Migbelis Castellanos to anyone wanting to investigate Maduro's claims'. Really? You have proof of this? How about the FBI, the DEA, the NSA, the Secret Service?
Mar 20th, 2015 - 02:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@2. And how much Venezuelan oil does the US buy?
@5. Just goes to show. Latam is the most juvenile place in the world. Let's do the sensible thing and bomb it.
@7. You're missing points. Although you do mention the Angles. Or perhaps they were Angels. So divergent from the scummy Italians, Portuguese and spanish. There were the Italians sailing across to conquer the spanish. What a shame that the Romans didn't get it quite right. But at least they tried. sending the spanish etc off to die in their wars. Such a perfect place for decimation. Unfortunately, the spanish survived. As did the Portuguese. And how much misery have they brought to the world. 1493 and the corrupt pope, Alexander VI, issues a bull (short for bullshit) that spain and Portugal take as permission to divide the world between them. There's a picture of the fat git here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Alexander_VI#Appearance_and_personality And he couldn't keep it in his pants either. Worth reading about him in order to understand how corrupt this spanish pope was. Even back then the portuguese and spanish were corrupt. Of course, most of the known world could see the corruption and ignored anything they came out with. More than three cheers for Sir Francis Drake.
@8. 'by any legitimate South American citizen'. Do you have a list? One sheet of A6 paper half used?
@12. Do get a grip. Try to imagine United States armoured columns spreading across SoAm with one 'rule of engagement'. Destroy. The attack helicopters. The fast jets. Bombing and shooting anything that moves. Maybe naval gunfire. Try checking out equipment inventories.
@13. That's a media 'empire'? With a circulation of 7,000? Like your pal @12, get a grip.
@12
Mar 20th, 2015 - 02:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Why on earth would the USA want to attack Venezuela, what do they have that the USA would want? OIL they ” the USA) are swimming in it. What would they want from a deadbeat country, in fact who would want anything from LATAM.
@16 dear old Conqi
Mar 20th, 2015 - 02:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You seem to have missed the humuor in your critique of @13 Chicuero's post.
It was a response to my post, in response of another post.
It was subtle, and funny, and required a little reearch. It also showed understanding of another culture. All together a most intelligent response.
Part of a conversation. You do remember those? You know, conversations, full of wit and alternate points of view, knowledge sharing and sometimes common agreement?
Or do you only do diatribe and invective these days?
@17, and others.
The USA is the largest and majority importer of Vnzlan dirty crude, and one of the few that has the refineries available to convert into gasoline.
They legally buy it, at global-market rates, and then ship it back. To destroy vnzla, they can simply stop doing this.
They have no need, nor any interest, in attacking vnzla. Unfortunately too many are too ready to buy-in to the Maduro rhetoric........
What is REALLY going to be interesting is when the details of all the assets (from the seven named Venezuelans officials) are made public.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 03:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It will be tough to explain luxury houses and condos in Miami, bank and investment accounts, and business names/relationships that defy good socialist behavior.
I'll bet those seven folks are scared $hitless... and other, as yet unnamed folks, are probably trying to get their assets out of the US as soon as possible.
Peace and love to all.
Venezuela: http://data2.whicdn.com/images/55374826/original.gif
Mar 20th, 2015 - 03:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 018. The problem with that is our refineries blend light sweet crude with the heavy tar from Venezuela. Our refineries have not fully converted to be able to refine just the light sweet crude in enough volume yet. The conversion should be done in a few more years then we won't be buying V's oil.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 03:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The other solution would be to get it from Canadian Tar Sands which is why we needed the XL pipeline but Odumbo won't approve it. He'd rather support the Caudillo in Venezuela.
@21
Mar 20th, 2015 - 03:51 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Interesting as that is, and thank you for adding more in depth knowledge, what a lot of these Chavistas don't realise is that the USA does not need this oil and could simply stop trading tomorrow.
That really would be an act of economic violence!
Venezuela would go bust in a few weeks!

Mar 20th, 2015 - 06:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Seriously doubt the Yanks have any intention whatsoever of interfering in Vnzl in any way, let alone “invading”
If however they did (make believe just for a moment), the Venzlan military would flock to surrender and be taken prisoner in droves.
The venzlan people would welcome them as liberators and forgein fighters from many S. American countries, would travel there in the hope of being captured.
So long as the Gringo occupation didn’t last too long, postings to “the Nam (LatNam)” would be very popular amongst the troops.

Decent governments don't need to be constantly telling other people (who don't actually give a damn about them) how good they are.
Mar 20th, 2015 - 10:24 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They certainly don't need to take out ads in other countries newspapers.
All this does is make Venezuela look weak and pathetic. Just like it made Argentina look weak and pathetic when they tried the same thing over the Falkland Islands.
So all we can conclude from this is that Venezuela, like their 'friends' Argentina, are a weak and pathetic country that the USA wouldn't even bother to p!ss on if it was on fire, let alone bother invading.
I mean why should they bother? Maduro and his Cuban 'masters' are destroying Venezuela even as we speak.

Meanwhile, and to be a bit more serious now;
Madurro is still bleating about the 'boiler-plate' diplo-speak employed by Obamo when sanctioning 7 vnlan officials.
The internal propaganda/indoctrination continues in the schools;
The Venezuelan government has sent out memos to schools across the country, requiring that schoolchildren write a letter of protest against US President Barack Obama’s declaration that Venezuela is “national security threat” to the United States.
Venezuela’s Education Ministry issued the orders on March 11 for its regional and municipal offices to celebrate an “anti-imperialist day” in all schools, after Obama’s executive order of March 9. The recommendations were to be followed “without excuses.”.
