lack of respect for others and indifference to the common good in a framework of individual interests.
political corruption, which extends in all institutions, in the form of perks, direct appropriation of public funds, favoritism, nepotism, misallocation of state resources, etc.
extreme individualism, with mistrust of others and little ability to partner and cooperate in community goals. (Interpersonal trust is a key component of social capital, which is crucial for economic development and proper functioning of democratic institutions.)
Anomie or weakening of the common morality, and social deviance as behavior that departs from generally accepted standards in society.
The habit of blaming problems on others, thereby encouraging paranoia and granting a permit to self-indulgence.
Easy to be 'happy' when you can look back on all the occasions that you've conned, scammed, stolen, cheated, lied, bullied, raped, killed someone and got away with it. Now let's think about 'Stevie' and 'Brasiliero'. Why are they 'really' so happy. Wouldn't expect them to publicly admit to rape and/or murder. But have they?

C'mon 'Stevie', where did you learn about soft, triple layer? We have no evidence that argies use anything except their hands. Certainly the animals sent to the Falklands in 1982 didn't know what it was. Defecating in the post office. In people's homes, in their beds, in their baths on their furniture. Shitty argies.
Just those examples should be enough to ban argies from the Islands. Not human. Deal with them under the heading of 'animal imports'. Full 'health' checks just like cattle, biopsies, a kilo should be enough. Samples, sterilised extraction equipment. As per milking, but much stronger. Drain them. Shouldn't take long. And then shoot them!

He started off relating his experiences as a Supa Tupa in the 70's, gleefully regaling us with tales of torturing Mitrione, a US operative or agent, or provocateur, or spy, or something...
Stevie freely shared 'his' joyful experience of degrading the man until he wet himself, and pleaded for his life.
When that met with disdain, and he could no longer defend or answer other questions, he told us his parents were the Tupas, not him.
Clearly, he derived a lot of joy from posing as a fantasy character.

The British Empire brought many down out of the trees, up out of the muck and slime, taught civilisation, morals, principles, responsibility. Regrettably, south america preferred belligerence, corruption, criminality, depravity, genocide, ignorance, incompetence, larceny, mendacity, rapacity, xenophobia. Sooner or later the current invaders will have to be removed and the continent repopulated. Indigenous people first. The government of the future. Apr 03rd, 2015 - 12:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This study is an eye-opener about human nature that can teach a thing or two on how to set up our life goals.
Apr 03rd, 2015 - 02:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It provides some rationality to what I experienced with some of the poorest families in marginal areas of my Argentine home country: people with almost nothing would share the little they had, giving you a smile on top of that.
However, the above paragraph should not be taken as a glorification of poverty: it would just warn us that accumulating material riches is not a sure path to happiness without negating that improvement of human's life conditions is a legitimate goal.
Of course, the article causes constipated reactions from those who believe their countries' annual GDP is enough to make them superior.
Just a couple of samples (be warned--it may cloud your day):

Suppose that all you say is true...
You keep saying that those Islands are British territory, right?
So despite your “nuclear power”, your permant seat in UN SC, and your special relationship with US as you like to say and your GDP, Argentina had invaded part of Brintain in 1982 according with your British gov point of view...
Can you see? You don't have enougth deterrant power
And if you carryout any nuclear strike over America soil (continent) the first to kick your ass will be the Americans like happened with your affair in the Suez canale. Do you remember when Uncle Sam (Eisenhower) kicked your ass and send you back home?
Because you are not allowed to do that especially with weapons borrowed from US.
Because this will give Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, etc. the perfect excuse to assemble their owns made in SA nukes able to strike any country in the world and that will erode the balance of power in the region that have enjoyed for so long US and that have contributed to them to become a global power.
Basic geopolitics of how to survive in a dangerous world and keeping alive as a global power...

Has the country ever defaulted on a debt.
It would seem that our creditors are happy with the arrangement OR credit would dry up.
This does not seem to be the case with Argentina. The attitude there is that the mugs lent us money and then expect it to be repaid ?
That's not in our national psyche....it must have been a free gift and now they change the rules.

Another financial genius at work I see.
Brazil
the country's worst year in more than two decades.
Brazil's economy will contract 0.5% in 2015 and inflation will climb to 7.9%

Apr 04th, 2015 - 01:27 pm - Link - Report abuse 0After 15 years of growth it is natural that there is a readjustment of the economy, but nothing as worrying as the situation of Western.
The cleaning we are doing will give us growth for over a decade. In addition, our economy is moving away from Western decadence and seeking alternatives in the world's most competitive, less debt and with strong national states.
There is no escaping the terrible fate that awaits the Western.
97. The problem is that a lot of Brazil's growth has come from Oil and Soy. Both are down, way way down and won't recover for a long time.
Apr 04th, 2015 - 02:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The other part of the growth has been direct payments and subsidies to slum dwellers such as yourself. The country could never afford it and now playing a game of chicken between its soverign bond rating and slum dweller civil unrest.
No telling who's going to win yet.
But I have my guesses.
Agribusiness accounts for 23% of Brazil's GDP. Soy is 2.2%.
Apr 04th, 2015 - 02:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Why do you think that soy is important for Brazil? And it is important. But why do you think that soy is important?
Oil? Are you sure about that?
We are importers of oil! Why do you think that oil is important to the economy of Brazil? And it is.
It's only a matter of time until argenzuela is a Chinese province. Let's see how happy you are then. ☺

What's so hard to understand that we don't like you nor do we want to be friends with you or even follow your world model? THat's so hard to get? I mention this because you suggest in your answer that you (the west) are better than the Chinese. That's your opinion, Argentina thinks differently.
@98
And what you think the USA's growth came from?? OIL!!
The USA has produced nothing new or interesting in the last 5 years to account for your recovery. Only Oil, and 0% rates leading to yet another bubble of property. That is what you have been reduced to. Sorry.
The only growth you sprak about, yanqui, is in the private sector. As you are allergic to taxes, I fail to see how that helps your argument. You sure USA is able to tax those sectors and avoid them fleeing the country? They're not known for their nationalism when it comes to contribution to the coffin...
Apr 04th, 2015 - 07:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And it's not about being a dominant world power. It's about getting rid of you lot...

Apr 04th, 2015 - 10:40 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Because this will give Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, etc. the perfect excuse to assemble their owns made in SA nukes .......
You are grossly misinformed. Brazil has absolutely no ambition to construct nukes, so much so, that the official policy of all governments, is that nuclear power, will only be for energy, and even then, pretty limited (Angra 1, Angra 2).
@97 Brasshole
After 15 years of growth it is natural that there is a readjustment of the economy, but nothing as worrying as the situation of Western
What crap !!....for the last 5 years, growth has been deaccellerating....growth has been gradually less, until virtual stagnation of the economy. To improve the economy, the Federal Governments needs to change direction in several policies.....doing things the PT way, has proved disastrous. And what you like to call the 'west', is doing a damned sight better than Brazil. Only you can't see it.
@99 What's your point ?? or are you trying present us with a riddle ??
@102 But while little trade, we are unbeatable in integrating. Portugal says it all!
Presume you mean that the Portuguese slave owners loved to dip their wick in the female slaves.......that was hardly integration, it was rape. And don't you believe it, but Brazil has an underlying problem with racism.....the Government can sign all the laws it wants to outlaw racism, but it cannot stop people from thinking the way they do. I personally believe in 'live and let live', but to force integration down the people's throats, through a bunch of laws, supposed to protect minorities, will not work. Every law made to protect a minority, discriminates the majority.
The difference with the UK, is that over there, the problem with racism is overlaying...

Apr 07th, 2015 - 06:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0 Why do o many Lat Ams wish to migrate to Europe/USA/Canada/Australia ?
Answers please.
Who says that?
Since 2008 emigration has reversed from Europe to Latam.
Just from the period 2008 to 2009 110,000 Europeans have left Europe to live in Latam.
The highest number of people leaving Europe to Latam were from Spain, UK, Germany, Netehrlands, Portugal, Italy and France.
The main receiving countries by quantity of Europeans received were Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico.
And only in one year...
Since then Europe have received billons of Dollars in remittances from South American countries.
In 2010 just Portugal alone have received half billon dollars from SA and were in the 3er place after
Spain and France.
Source International Organisation for Migration (IOM)
Since 2008 to 2012, 700,000 Spanish have left Europe to move to a SA country.
According with the Nationa Institute of Spanish statitics another 547,890 people left in 2013.
The balance only for Spain for inmigration and Emigration have been negative decreasing in 211,000 people left in 2013.
According with the IoSS Argentinean born in Spain have decreased from 95,415 in 2013 to 80,900 in 2014.
On the other hand the influx of immigrant asking visas to work in UK are from
India 59.464 increase 11%
Australia 17.250 increase 11%
China 5,692 increase 29%
Hong Kong 1,712 increase 135%
New Zealand 5,731 increase 10%
South Africa 2,868 increase 18%
Venezuela 497 increase 294%
United Estates 15,247 increase 2%
Canada 6,580 increase 5%
Philippines 8.919 increase 3%
I don't see Latam people desperate to move to Europe and you?

---------
Of the ten countries you bravely listed, only one is in Lat Am.
Vnzla.
You then quote the figure of a Venezuelan increase of 294% that wish to move to the UK only, let alone those that wish to migrate to the whole of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia!
294% increase!!! just to the UK!
Please show the figures, (and sources), of an increase of more than 294%, in the same time-frame of UK citizens moving TO Vnzla.
Oh, and answer the whole question if you can....
Remember it is;
Why do so many Lat Ams wish to migrate to Europe/USA/Canada/Australia?

Do you think that just only 497 people from Venezuela made a trend for Emigration from SA to Europe?
Please read the chart again just 497 people from Venzuela compared with millions from Europe migrating to SA.
Is irrelevant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What you say is just silly, don't be lazy made your own research you have plenty of articles
over the topic.
Many British have sold their property in UK and have moved to SA, Buenos Aires is an example of that.
In 2009/2010 for some Real State Agencies British counted for 20% of their income thanks to the sales to British alone.

Having read most of the posts on here, even Stevie's, got me thinking ....Why are citizens of Latam countries allegedly happier than those of other countries, say those of the USA and the UK ? The article states that the countries that lead the ranking are Uruguay, 80; Argentina, 79; Chile, 79; Bolivia, 77 and Brazil, 74, which compares with the 79 for the US; 75, UK and China, 75...
Apr 09th, 2015 - 10:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0First of all, the difference between the leading countries and the USA and the UK are not really significant.....second, the survey considered one random day on which to base its conclusion which, if taken on a different day, during which the persons interviewed had experienced a bad emotion, the result would have been totally different. And last of all, happiness is directly related to expectations and realizations.....since that Latin Americans, generally speaking, live in relatively unstable counties, their expectations aren't very high....as a result, they are happier because the situation is not worse....which means the survey is a relative measurement of happiness, not an absolute one....therefore not particularly relevant.
