Pope Francis will meet President Cristina Fernández for the fifth time, next June
Pope Francis and Argentine president Cristina Fernández will meet for the fifth time at the Vatican in June, according to government sources. The head of state will visit the pontiff between June 7 and 9, two months before the PASO primaries and ahead of national elections that are to be held in October. It will be their fifth meeting since Francis was elected and the first one under the administration of Eduardo Valdés, the Argentine Ambassador to the Vatican, appointed in December. It was the Catholic Church and the Spanish who destroyed South America, killed its native indigenous population, stole its gold and resources, built plantations and mono crops that left them destitute, and generally ravaged their future and took it all to Italy, Portugal and Spain.

The Church was the upholder of the concept of family for the lower levels of society. There is overwhelming evidence that when you have a united and healthy family kids do better at school and in society. Under today’s scheme –and this is all over the Western world- the State is obliged to fill the gap that family and church have, and those are the ones failing: the welfare state…

However, even as a non-believer, I acknowledge the influence of the Catholic Church in Argentina is still significant.
I would prefer seeing a progressive influence rather than a conservative one on the part of the Church.
Pope Francisco seems to want to make reforms to keep up with society's evolution--whether he succeeds his difficult task remains to be seen.
However, the state cannot wait for any religious group to take action. Extreme poverty, STDs, teen pregnancy and lack of rights to safe abortion need urgent attention--now.
