Argentine ambassador in London, Alicia Castro complained about being summoned to the Foreign Office over the Falklands/Malvinas Islands dispute revealing she asked the British official if it was “an expression of British humor or a political paradox”, since the UK has failed to comply with international law for the last five decades. It's not a further military build up (but so what if it was); it's just some refurbishment and updating. £180,000,000 over ten years is peanuts.
The UK would talk with you about it anytime you want if you allowed us to be represented. The UN resolution says taking account of the Islanders' interests. You know what they are already do you?
All countries spy on each other including yours and everybody knows it.
I'd say with your competence in diplomacy you'd be grateful for all the meetings you can get; whether by invitation or summons.

Apr 11th, 2015 - 09:29 am - Link - Report abuse 0I understand the analogy but as Hans points out it is a poor comparison. The Nazis thought they owned Alsace, invaded it, got kicked out and then replaced by a democratic government who we talk to - fine, I get that comparison. But the Germans no longer claim Alsace and if they did we wouldn't talk to them about it, or not unless the population of Alsace asked us to and certainly not without them present. So I simply don't understand the analogy.

No, not struggling with the English Language, but I am struggling with Argentina's logic-so if you could help me with this I would be most grateful:
The United Kingdom is increasing the militarization of the south of our continent
The UK is not adding to the Rapier system, it is replacing it-so how can 'militarisation' be increased when this is a swap?
How can the addition of two Chinooks be an increase when previously two chinooks were withdrawn?
2-2=0+2=2 (i.e. there are not 3 Chinooks being sent ).
Alicia Castro's behaviour is just further evidence that the present Argentine government has no interest in solving the dispute. The aim is just to get up the Anglo nose for the benefit of the domestic audience, who seem to get a buzz out of that kind of thing. But every time it happens, in reality it's yet another nail in the coffin of Argentina's territorial ambitions in the British South Atlantic and Queen Elizabeth Land.

She is a guest in the U.K. and if she is summoned to explain her words and behaviour, she has to do so. She has no choice. She had no choice.
TTT, what are you going to do about a Canadian refusing to return to Argentina? Feeling powerless again?
I don't understand. What is this 'international law' with which the UK has been failing to comply for 50 years? If she's referring to those UN resolutions, does she not know that none of them are binding? And a UN resolution isn't 'international law' anyway.
Apr 11th, 2015 - 12:26 pm - Link - Report abuse 0She should be glad that the UK doesn't treat her place as a 'colony'. If it did, it would be a spanish colony. In which case, bearing in mind technological advances, we'd probably bomb it.
As for espionage, where's the problem? Argieland is an enemy. It's almost certain that, every day, there's a British fleet submarine cruising the argie coast intercepting everything. Emails, texts, phone calls, argie air force, army and navy coded transmissions. And it may be that the sub also 'gives' something back. Lovely computer viruses.
Why would Ambassador Freeman attempt to discredit the argie 'government'? The argie 'government' can't get credit anywhere. When will it pay its hundreds of billions of debt? Unlike argieland, the UK isn't 'strictly isolated'. Anyone noticed the number of countries in which the UK isn't welcome? We seem to go virtually everywhere. Argieland, on the other hand, only seems to go to other parts of SoAm. And other pariahs.
And why would London have talked to the German Chancellor following the collapse of Nazism? Especially as there wasn't one until 1949.
'Espionage involves a spy ring, government and company/firm or individual obtaining information considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information.' And if RAF aircraft flew back and forth across argieland, what could the argies do about it? Argieland doesn't have a single aircraft capable of interception. Anyone researching should note that argie Mirages were retired in 2013. In argieland, they were known as Daggers and, later, Fingers. Argieland lost 13 in '82. That's how 'good' they were.
Yep, more “opiate for the masses” back home.

What part of negotiating has this excuse for an ambassador does she not understand. Britain has always said it would be happy to talk to Argentina regarding the Falklands so long as Argentina included the Falkland Islands and that sovereignty would not be discussed unless the Falkland Islanders wished to do so. The Falkland Islanders have made their wishes clearly known that they wish to remain British and until Argentina recognises and respects their wish as a people there will be no talks over the Falklands. How many times do we as Islanders have to spell out to Argentina We do not want to be a part of their Country. We already have everything we want and nothing Argentina has to offer us will change our minds. We offered to share the oil with you and you turned it down because you insist we do not exist so have no right to decide who has what. Well Madam we jolly well can decide right now who has what and it is certainly not looking good for your corrupt Country. The Falkland Islanders will exploit the wealth around them no matter what Argentina tries to do to stop them.

If any of our inventions could have been invented by anybody, then why weren't they? Well it doesn't.
Apr 12th, 2015 - 08:45 am - Link - Report abuse 0I am here until the day you realise the error in your ways.
Sra. Castro was a flight attendant ('trolly dolly'), right enough,
Apr 12th, 2015 - 10:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0but in the UK we suffered even worse - we had a Prescott who was a steward and waiter on boats. 'Deputy P.M', no less!
He is now wheeled in to win the elections for the 'socialists'.
So - God help us - is Tony Blair!
Thats what we just said, nostrils.
Apr 12th, 2015 - 10:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Please don't leave.
We need you, so that we can feel superior to someone.
And that someone is YOU!
Do you feel needed now, O tedious one?
And us Anglos(l'm only half-Anglo, btw)will treat that den of iniquity, that is Argentina just exactly as we like.
Argentina invites ridicule with the utterly ridiculous & foolish things that its people/government say & do.
Argentina has great resources, has great potential, but is a bankrupt, powerless, corrupt, impoverished 3rd world travesty of what it used to be.
The country hasn't changed from the year 1900.
You still have the minerals, farmland, hydro power etc.
So why the demise? lt can only be the mentality of the people.
lf they all think like you, nostrils, then l can understand it.
They can't ALL be losers like you……can they?
Wake up to yourselves & stop feeling so damn sorry for yourselves.

Apr 12th, 2015 - 12:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thank goodness you've got here! There's an Anglo criminal called Justin Bieber on the loose. He's been beating up photographers, drilling for oil on Argentine territory, murdering Nismans, sabotaging scanners in Tierra Del Fuego, driving around in a car with offensive number plates, and mocking his intellectual betters on obscure bulletin boards.
Save us, o great one!
I am here until the day you realise the error in your ways.
Apr 12th, 2015 - 01:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes until our economies are as weak as Argentina's, our defence capabilities are as depleted as Argentina's, our standards of living are as low as Argentina's, our crime rates are as shockingly high as Argentina's, our GDPs are sinking like Argentina's and our education, health and transportation systems are worse than Argentina's (I could go on but you get the picture).
Well at least Nostrils has a job for life.

Apr 12th, 2015 - 02:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Oh dear, your precious Diego Maradona has been a naughty Argie kicking and slapping spectators and cameramen after a football match in Columbia. He will be arrested and charged with affray won't he? Pot calling the kettle black methinks
Look at this wonderful claque of 100% losers, responding to yet another impostor, in order to justify their Anglo-supremacism
Apr 12th, 2015 - 02:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You guys do know that Anglo culture also produces the least number of scientists and engineers (compared to German, French, Scandinavian, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cultures), they also have the poorest rated cuisine, are by far according to all studies the most useless in language ability, are also the culture with the most legal criminal financial havens, are the culture with the most proven records of driving species to extinction... etc.
Sounds like you are actually inferior.

Apr 12th, 2015 - 03:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It’s not our fault we’re just great at everything and you lot are just rubbish in every respect.
Just the way God made us I’m afraid, destiny and all that.
By the way it’s “speaks volumes” not “speaks leagues”.
No need to thank me, here to help.
@85 Dopey_Troll
Your postings are actually all the proof required for Anglo-supremacism.
You prove the case with monotonous regularity.
But I have listed the MANY things Anglos are either useless or criminal in. You choose to ignore them and continue on your Nazistic notions, fine. I will continue to be here, reminding you of the sad reality of the Anglo.
Apr 12th, 2015 - 03:48 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I am not going anywhere. I have been here four years, expect me to be here for 40 if my fancies fancy.
My posts are REACTIVE, not pro-active. My posts are the proof required to eschew Anglos and their inferior ways.
QED, right on cue.

Apr 12th, 2015 - 05:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0He's certainly the only person I've ever read that can call an entire group of people Anglos, useless, inferior, Nazi and racist all in the same paragraph, without any hint of irony.
I prefer to view him as a kind of not very subtle joke. The entertainment value wore off a long time ago, and it's just boring now.

I feel your perplexity about that, Anglo hypocrisy and double-standards is something the entire world has never understood, and something I don't understand every now and then.
A remarkable admission.
Apr 12th, 2015 - 06:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If Ambassador Castro does not understand being summoned to clarify the comments made by her President Kirchner, then perhaps she should be replaced by someone in the diplomatic corps who does.
That is in fact her job, unless she is ignorant of how actual diplomacy works.
Diplomacy is between friends.

Apr 12th, 2015 - 11:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Alicia's job is to get up the nose of her host country as much as possible, for the benefit of CFK and those among the domestic population who respond to that kind of thing.
This of course would be an absolutely idiotic approach if your aim was actually to change the status quo, but if you're looking to perpetuate and inflame an unresolvable grievance, it's a good way to go, and with Castro, Filmus and Timerman, Argentina certainly has a dream team on the job.
