Let's hope the Pope repeats his remarks immediately. I doubt it was anything other than intentional when he first said it.

Erdogan needs to pull his neck in. At the very least. His 'joint commission of historians' would raise more questions.

After a considerable amount of reading, it seems to me that Turks always want to have a minority that they can look down. It seems that in the early 20th century it was Armenians. Nowadays it's Kurds.

Erdogan describes himself as a moderate Islamist. What does that mean? Back in 1915, the Armenians were Christians. The Ottoman Empire was Islamic. Religion doesn't play much part in the antipathy to the Kurds. Very few Kurds are Christian. 99.8% of Turks are muslim. Why didn't Turkey go to the assistance of the Kurds fighting against IS?

So it must just be a 'superiority' thing. Argies and nazis come to mind.

The Kurds have been fighting Turkey for years trying to create “Kurdistan” which would encompass part of Turkish territory.

The Kurds are no fluffier than the Turks.

What is it about the British that they trash everyone else's version of history as lies?

You people really think you have a monopoly on truth? Like “the British Empire wasn't an Empire of conquest, robbing of resources, denial of self-determination, murder, disease”.. it was, as the Queen put it “a partnership”. LOL! I'm sure to the Australian aborigenes, the Indian people, and Inuit this “partnership” they “enjoyed” is breaking news!

    Gosh, what a deluded folk.

It's a bit rich to questions our past when your past and present is just as bad if not worse.

Getting back to the article, I am loving the Argentine coming out of this pope now he has found his feet, I have noticed him becoming more outspoken. less guarded in his remarks and more opinionated, but without the tact, statesmanship or diplomacy you would expect from someone in his office. Lets hope he can politically isolate the Vatican in the same way KFC has done in Argentina.

It does very much sound like a threat...I wonder if something was lost in the translation....
I wonder what the reprisals are if he does exercise his rights to free speech...

Shame you didn't like the British Empire. It was actually really good for mankind and human development and we loved it. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
The Spanish Empire was pure evil in comparison.

@5. What is it about the apes of argieland that they've never told the truth. In 2010, argieland celebrated its 'bicentennial'. But argieland didn't 'declare' independence until 1816. The colonial power, spain, didn't recognise argieland until 1857. Until then it was still a LEGAL colony of spain in rebellion. Argieland's 'bicentennial' should take place until 2057. So, 47 years too soon. But it's a Kirchner thing. Likes to celebrate wars it lost. Laud 'veterans' who are mostly dead, having died of delayed fright at seeing the British coming! But it appears that, in argieland, it's possible to 'inherit' being a veteran. It's also quite incredible to count the number of lies that argieland has told the UN about its 'claim' to the Falkland Islands. And how the 'story' changes from time to time. For instance, in 1866, the vice president of argieland informed the Congress that there was only one outstanding issue between argieland and the United Kingdom. A matter of various amounts of compensation to be paid by argieland. Somehow I think a territorial 'claim' or 'dispute' might have been mentioned. And then, somehow, argieland had been 'claiming' the Islands continuously since 1833. When Britain re-established its rule. Amazingly, argies had been on the Islands for five weeks. Five weeks merits sovereignty?

Just a few simple examples of how argieland continuously lies.

What exactly has Britain denied? Let's ask more questions. British colonisation of Australia began in 1788. Around this time, the spanish and italians were busy exterminating the indigenous people of SoAm. Continued by argies and others to this day. Indians were inherently warlike. A brief look at Indian history shows that Britain actually imposed peace. And the Inuits benefited from trade. In fact, it was mostly the Inuit that attacked whaling outposts. Cheats and liars always reckon that everyone else is the same sort of scum as they are.

“Whenever politicians, religious functionaries assume the duties of historians, then delirium comes out, not fact.”

said career politician Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ...

On a lighter note, (NOT), again we have Muslims and Christians in a war of words... but this time a dumbass Argetentine has got himself involved.
    Can't see this ending well.
Another reason to be an atheist. Do you entrust you future to either of these people?
    hmm...
