I don't see the problem. 1915 clearly saw an attempt at genocide of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire.

Does islamic Turkey equate itself with the islamic Ottoman Empire?

No entry to the EU for islamic Turkey. Only 3% of Turkey is in Europe. It has no place in the EU.

    You did it, Turkey.
You committed genocide on the Armenians.
Hell, even the Bedouin Arabs rescued Armenian children from your murderous soldiers. And its documented.
We all know what you did, come out of denial.
Now stop being a turkey & 'fess up.

Islamic genocide is nothing new to their region. A more gentler term is ethnic cleansing, but the reasons of the Armenian true genocide was due to the Armenians threat of joining with the Russian Empire. Reading the historical accounts, it's amazing that any Armenians survived as the Ottomans were completely ruthless. Any suspected saved infants found in the arms of sympathetic non-Armenians were murdered as well.

Since the founding of the modern Republic of Turkey, they've tried to re-write this tragedy into something more acceptable. It's pleasing to see the Vatican and the EU remind the world of the truth.

So.... where do we go from here?

What can Turkey do to move forward in the 21stC. ?

    They can't undo the past.

The best they could do is make an official apology, stating what they did was wrong then, would be wrong now, it will never happen again, and can we move along in friendship, please...

Perhaps there is too much leverage to be gained by some parties, to let old hatreds die.

Oh well, he has just screwed his country's chances of EU Membership. Again!
The electorate won't like it. If they can figure it out. He is almost a dictator.
When I was last in Turkey, (2013), all the locals I met were very keen on joining the EU. They even turned their noses up at Turkish money, and asked for Euros in the smallest of local shops. They were anxious to impress me that they were European too. Many could speak English, but many more could talk German and some French too. Some actually asked that on my return to the UK, that I would petition the Gov. in their cause.
Naturally they got a little befuddled when I replied that I would be flying back to VNZLA for 6 months before returning to the UK.
    They thought I was crazy.
    Maybe I was!
    ;-)

A voluntary association of 53 independent countries.
Home to 2.2 billion citizens, that “move along in friendship”.

All your requirements have been met.

    Just 'jog-on', window-licker.

We have so many reports from foreign diplomats, European and American embassies, telling us that commencing 24 April 1915 first the Armenian elite and soon afterwards Armenian officers and thousands of soldiers in the Ottoman army were murdered or enslaved under conditions like those in the National Socialist (German) slave camps. During 1915 alone The New York Times printed 145 articles about the massacres and violence against Armenians. It is ridiculous to deny it.

Next women, children and elderly were deported ans sent on death marches in the desert. All of this is well documented by the diplomats from the foreign embassies who saw much of it with their own eyes and reported it to their governments. These reports tell about from 1 to 1.5 million Armenians killed.

It is incomprehensible why present day Turkey doesn't clean the table and their conscience by condemning the so-called Young Turks and recommending the many Turks who warned and, in some (perhaps many) instances, actively saved Armenians against the intentions of the Young Turk government.

Marcos Alejandro, how long have you been without contact to the rest of the world?

Britain has apologized, Australia has apologized, New Zealand has apologized, Canada has apologized, anyone else responsible in the Commonwealth and the USA has apologized and most have paid compensation (e.g. to the natives of Canada and the maoris of NZ).

When will the Argentine asesinos apologize and pay compensation to their indigenous victims?

    @9 Don Alberto,
    They will never do that.
The Argentines want to be seen as the victims.
Victims don't kill or steal from others!
lt actually surprising that the Argentines haven't asked the Amerindians to apologise to them, for all the bother that they were put through in exterminating most of them!

What's this, a “personal attack” on another poster?

Why do you care where ilsen is?

Are you that creepy that you note the log-in times of their posts??

Do you remember yourself telling people you will forego your Bovril and stay up late if you chose?

    BTW
ilsen is a caring compassionate person who actually acts on her conscience!
She is also a very successful and creative business woman, a well-educated world traveller.
Can't say the same for you.

As much as I like redheads, I can tell you she is not, but she is a slender, elegant, beauty.

Read this whole thread - it encapsulates everything about you - hilarious!

I note everything that is unusual and someone claiming to be working in the UK, but repeatedly posting at 4.00 and 5.00 am is unusual...unless of course they are not in the BST timezone...get it...?

I understand what you are saying, but it's not quite cricket when I ask someone a question and direct the post to them and it being a personal enquiry and not a general subject.....that someone else should take it upon themselves to answer it....

You are right I can't prevent it, but it doesn't mean I have to like it and will not prevent me from displaying my annoyance....
I'm partial to a free for all when it's a general observance and not a personal detail...

Actually now that I think about it....you're right...I was almost believing that crap I was writing....I'm always game for a free for all whether it's personal or not even directed at me.....;-)))))
