Full article 52 comments

Having a Swedish passport in your pocket when you go abroad is more beneficial than having travel identification from any other country in the world, according to a new study. European travel firm GoEuro looked into issues such as how easy it is to get a passport, which countries it offers access to without a visa, its price and how long it is valid for. Read full article

this powerful advanced passport has 3 missile systems 2 machine guns , and satellite surveillance,

    yep very powerful,

the British one in comparison is powerfully expensive...lol

For people who travel in countries with sketchy police, high crime, and rampant disease, a high-value passport should be one where the traveller can expect reasonable emergency service from his embassy or consulate. What happens when you notify your consulate after you are robbed? What support does your NOK have when you are murdered? If you are arrested and jailed, does somebody from the consulate drop by the jail with loans for you to buy food and medicine, or obtain those on your behalf?

    Yay Sweden!

But they forgot the time it takes me to drive to the passport office, stand in line, put my face in the machine, and then stand in line to pay...

The rating of Sweden coming out 'first' has nothing to do with how 'powerful' the country is, or is not.

The countries are, in alphabetical order:
Finland / Germany / Sweden / United Kingdom / USA are joint top with 174 countries to visit WITHOUT needing a Visa.

    @ 36 Brazil with 146 countries

    @ 46 Colombia with 66 countries

Bottom of the list is Afghanistan with 28.

Where are the rest of the Lovey-Dovey SA countries? Nowhere to be seen.

I was surprised at the omission of Chile.

It is very fortunate that the USA voided the visa waiver program with Argentina and never granted one to Brazil.
We'd be overrun with them about now if it was still ongoing.

The article is very interesting. In the case of Argentina, it's the 16th passport of the world, and it's the most powerful from latinamerica, beside, it let our citizens travel to 129 countries without a visa.
It would be better if the article said something about the situation of latin passports.

Slightly misleading statistics, for example the price quoted for a Canadian passport is for a 5 year passport whereas the UK price is for a 10 year passport. 10 year Canadian passports are available for a higher price.

When I was in Brazil back in '96 I had my bag stolen with my passport in it. I went to the Swedish consulate in Rio and they fixed me up with a temporary 30-day passport right away to get me back home.
I felt that wasn't so bad for consular service...

After careful analysis it seems that Sweden's passport tops the list because it's cheap.
@7. Which world? Is that of Zob in the galaxy Baby Boom? 12.2 billion light years from Earth? Latino passports are useful as toilet paper. In 'proper' countries, a latino passport gets you targeted. For instance, in the UK, the first interest will be by Immigration. Including checks for forgery. Then, while additional checks are made, it's off to Port Health because latinos are known to be disease-ridden. Then Special Branch, and through them the intelligence services, will take an interest. Next it's the turn of Customs/Border Force. They are very polite and can do anything. One thing wrong and it's back to the beginning. Bye-byes in the detention suite. Then it's time for the x-rays, the body fluid samples, the tests, the bags ripped apart, probing of body cavities. I remember a funny incident involving a Mexican politician and his 'partner'. Declined to be honest and tell the truth. Always remember to tell the truth. One tiny suspicion is enough. And then entry is refused.

Actually it was an A4 piece of paper with my pic and information, along with the consulate stamp. Good for 30 days re-entry only. But I got it in less than an hour.

By comparison, I had to spend two days driving around Rio to collect stamps and signatures from various agencies to be allowed to leave the country (since my real passport that was stolen had my entry into Brazil stamp in it, and I was told I could not leave without it).

“ ...- and the next gaddam immigrant hopping the fence is just as American as was your good ol' great gran pappy Yankee.”

What an entitled Socialist, 'rascal' you are, Vestige!

'your' fence jumper did not build the country, nor invest in it, nor defend it in the past, nor have a stake in its future.

The fact that he is “jumping the fence” means he does not meet the legitimate criteria for immigration - he is not an asset, but a potential detriment - a criminal, a drag on the economy and the well-being of those who built the social infrastructure of the nation.

Sorry, it's not up to you to decide what you can use or take, of what others have built or made for themselves, or what belongs to others.

You're not very smart, are you?

The British Consulate in Rio a number of years ago:
I was there getting my kids UK passports, and there was a mildly heated conversation going on between the official behind the window, and a young English lad in his mid-twenties.
I was quite surprised by the poor attitude shown by the Consulate to this young lad, who had basically lost everything, - Passport, money, the lot - Stolen on the beach. He was asking to use their phone to call his family so they could send money, so he could pay the Consulate's fee for an emergency passport or something, - It just sounded ridiculous that the Consulate was not in a position to assist a UK Citizen if he had no money.
I stepped up to the official and asked what the fee was (cant remember) - Paid it for him, (the apathy confused the official somewhat) and gave him some cash so he could contact his people to let them know WTF had happened to him, etc.
I’ve never been in that situation personally, but I could see how distressed the lad was, and how indifferent the Consulate was.

Almost all of those are EUian passports, thus they are sh!t.

    Ban them all from Argentina.

An American passport today equals certain death in many countries... I wonder why, it's not like the NorthAmoans have bombed and killed children in half the nations on this planet by now.

    Oh, wait.

    15. That would be something like my 20th G-Grandfather and my family obeyed all the laws of the land to immigrate here. They even brought their servants so they too could have a better life.
I am a strong supporter of LEGAL immigration. I wish the USA would set up a point/state sponsored system like Canada. Alas the Liberals won't allow it.
Maybe the next Prez will fix it.

#19: “Almost all of those are EUian passports”

Yes. EU citizens, in general *, work for a living, earn money and can thus afford to travel. Terefore passports are useful to them.

As opposed to Argentina, where no-one works, you scrounge off all other states or simply live off corruption; moan, whine and tell incessant lies. As a result, you have no money, so can't afford to travel. Thus you don't need passports.

    * I except Spain from this list.

@23 - not 'racist or supremacist' in any way: simply an observation

The EU nations primarily rank among the wealthiest, most productive and least corrupt in the world.

Argentina does not. as to “percolating into certain disaster” - well. Argentines are perfectly placed to advise on how that feels, aren't they?

And when Argentina was wealthier than France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland, etc... from 1870 to 1940, what then? Where we a superior race for that better part of half a century?

And it's no observation to discredit the only non-Northern European nation on that list.

That is the prevalent mentality in this forum and probably in the UK, which explains UKIP, the riots, and the half dozen tram videos with racists Brits going of their hinges.

You are all a bunch of racists (with no reason behind it, you are kinda ugly, not particularly hard working), and England's trajectory based on current event, recent past, an political/social developments is certainly straight into a 4th Reich that will end up torn to powder (literally), once is all set and done.

The Argentina of a 100 years ago was full of new European immigrants, and a world class infrastructure, built by the British.

The Argentina of 75 years ago, refused to fight in the war that ravaged Europe, and harboured the Nazi racists after that war.

Since then, as a whole, they are a society that has descended into
sloth, with jealous eyes on their neighbours' belongings.

Their military failed to carry through their grand designs, and their government-managed economy failed to make good on infrastructure projects or $100b in debt payments, in the present day

A stark difference from the European-influenced Argentina at its peak.

Its quite hilarious that An Rgs is calling someone from the UK a fascist. You're current gov't has its roots in fascism and its plain to see its also their current modus operandi.
Remember the UK spent a lot of blood and treasure helping to liberate the world from the Nazis. While Argentina supported them.

Well I've been to 160+ cities in 30+ countries. More than most but fewer than I'd like.
I'd never go to Dunoon nor would I ever stay in a B&B (unless it was an emergency). I stayed in some when I was a poor student traveling Europe for the first time after staying 1 night in a Hostel and vowing that would never happen again. I can afford nice hotels now so I don't have to worry about that any longer.
I am sure there's lots of people that enjoy staying in someone's home talking to the owners or other guests about their cats and children that's not me.
    No thanks.

The office is the last room and we've not settled on the sofa nor the wall paper. That's this weeks negotiations. Then they have to order the wallpaper and sofa and that will take 10-12 weeks. So we're almost there. I told you when its published I'll let you know as long as it doesn't mention any personal info.
I did just have my newly done master bathroom in a local paper but it gave my address :( See if you can find it. It will give you something to do this week. I'll give a little clue we used Rohl fixtures and that's mentioned. Go search boy search. Bring me a bone.
