Argentina's central bank bought 630 million of dollars on the local currency market on Tuesday in one of its largest-ever purchases, a move that will bolster the country's precariously low hard currency reserves. Some 500 million of the dollars purchased were proceeds from last week's 1.5 billion auction of bonds by state energy company YPF. Read full article

Gone off our local supermarket shelves a few weeks ago, yesterday I went to the central market which usually has things no one else does. Gone!!! None. Drives me crazy.

Apr 29th, 2015 - 12:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0When you do the maths, that is when you subtract all the debts due this year, + the chinese swaps, + the credits, + the loans minus the reserves in the central bank, the result is negative.
less than zero.
so this useless imbecile of kicillof + the other useless imbecile of vanoli + the mare, who fill their dirty mouths talking about the desendeudamiento, have done exactly the opposite.
now you have to add a high inflation rate and a dollar pisado, and you have the recipe to another economic disaster.
this bunch of hijos de puta have to rot in jail.
The next Prez has no wiggle room. There's a Tsunami of Inflation coming and BCRA is still working on a 90-120 float. Adding reserves at this time of year is not news. If they can't add when the only cash crop is exported they're more than doomed.

@5. There's a Tsunami of Inflation coming. Really? Goody! Don't I recall Kirchner N (deceased) using a large chunk of reserves to pay off the IMF? And now Kirchner C could use a miniscule US$1.66 billion to pay off the primary 'holdout' bondholders. How much for the 'me too' holdout bondholders? A bit of a 'splurge' to satisfy the Paris Club. Then there's just the various judgments against argieland to pay off. Could she do it all with US$15 billion? Such a lot of debts!

Apr 29th, 2015 - 02:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Markets widely expect Argentina's next government to implement a more sustainable solution to its financing problems by resolving its long-standing battle with investors over unpaid debt in order to be able to reaccess international credit markets. At the same time, they see it lifting currency restrictions.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/04/28/argentina-cenbank-idUSL1N0XP2HQ20150428
Between January 1 and April 1 the central bank issued Lebacs worth 310.70 billion pesos, compared with 261.45 billion pesos worth in the whole of 2014, Thomson Reuters data showed. To attract takers, it has also nearly doubled interest rates payable on the Lebacs in the past two years.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/04/28/argentina-cenbank-idUSL1N0XP2HQ20150428
The central bank's strategy is to delay real solutions. The next government will be the one paying the price, said Aldo Pignanelli, a former chief of Argentina's central bank who is now advising opposition presidential aspirant Sergio Massa.
The central bank declined to comment.

May 01st, 2015 - 03:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0Oh yeah! People, never mind. Freddy Gray killed himself slamming his back against a bolt on the police van--on purpose. Probably to try and implicate the police with his killing. He did not succeed.
It’s also unclear whether Gray’s head injury was voluntary or was a result of some other action.
On top of that, Baltimore police had previous cases of injured prisoners after a rough ride attention of police drivers, while prisoners are unbuckled--like Gray was.
However, be reassured. Yankeeboy has already determined that there was no reason for the riots. All is well.
Yankeeboy: I knew you were being subjective and biased when talking about Argentina. However, I never imagined you would just half-read a news article and rush to post it with your personal--and biased--conclusions.
By doing so you have revealed the measure of your reliability. Very low indeed.
Baltimore police have already been outed for for withholding information on their reports from the Chief of Police. It is still small in relation to the overall number of arrests happening and in relation to white people getting shoot but it is also getting out of hand. Police really are shooting anybody because they are too militarized.......and some are SF wannabes.

May 02nd, 2015 - 03:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0What you say is absolutely outrageous!!
A drag on society, perhaps, but one does not mow them all down or abandon them.
It is talk like that, thait feeds the critics of US society.
It is thinking like that, that pulls apart the fabric of a society.
You, as a society, have a social responsibility to educate them, and include them, to make them productive assets to that society.
That is different to the Populism that we see does not work in South America.
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy to say, don't waste the effort on them. They WILL fail and they will harbour resentment, and it will perpetuate the cycle.
It's about giving them the tools and the opportunity to help themselves, and not give simple handouts.
This will take more than one generation.
It is irresponsible to marginalise one group of your society, and for a government party to publicly characterise them as worthless.
You will always have division that way.

Yankeeboy at #54 notes: Reekie, I side with law and order not the thugs rioting in the streets.
However, in the following line Yankeeboy adds:
The police should use live rounds and mow them all down.
Which would be illegal executions of course. So are you on the law side? Or just when it goes your way?
More generally: do you really have death wishes for human beings who have done nothing to you? Or you just enjoy fantasizing about that?

I have no idea if the Police in Baltimore did anything wrong. They may have not followed procedure in every instance but I bet they will be found not guilty. Just because someone is indicted doesn't mean they're guilty.
