President Barack Obama has banned the US government from giving certain kinds of military-style equipment to local police forces. The announcement follows criticism that police were too heavy handed in dealing with protests in Ferguson, Missouri, that turned violent last summer. Read full article

Call me old fashioned, but I for one can't see the need for equipping police officers with weapon calibres that are nearer to anti-materiel weaponry than antipersonnel ones.

There is one oddity on the list though, a larger baton will often (as counter-intuitive as it sounds) cause less damage while subduing a violent offender (i.e. not abusing it/them), principally because a smaller lighter one is capable of causing damage while not actually immediately stopping the offender.

It already has in the border states......Arizona, New Mexico, Texas....just not to the level in Mexico.

50 cal BMG is too much cartridge for me in a single shot BA rifle (Barret with walnut stock), you get better rifle performance with a 0.338 Lapua fired from an Accuracy International AI AX modular rifle.

But of course I suspect it has nothing to do with that as far as some police are concerned. If the criminals have 50 cal, that's what they want PLUS! Why NOT a truck mounted BMG? They ARE the police, after all? :o(

You have to love Obumma: too little, too late as always, the Genie is already out of the bottle. I'll give it until some drugs gangs start using RPG (if they haven't already) and Obummas dictate will soon be “revised” as they say.
