The long influential shadow of Buenos Aires born Pope Francis was again present on Monday 25 May at two significant religious and official ceremonies, calling for responsible leadership and an end to political bickering. Read full article
Very appropriate comments from Pope Francisco. Wealth concentration and the use of capital for speculative practices as opposed to productive investment is ruining the chances of a building a healthy world economy.
The debacle of European countries that followed to the letter the traditional recipes of the EU and the FMI shows the shortcomings of a system based on selfish and corrupted power schemes.
Wealthy but sterile, incapable of administrating money for the sake of all men, said Francisco. Well put.
taking away resources from productive investment at the world's level, sabotaging the chances of ruining the world's economy and getting the world back to the Dark Ages.
@1. I wonder. The Catholic Church is well known for having more 'assets' than it knows what to do with. The Vatican Bank manages US$7.3 billion in assets. US$866 million of equity that it owns. Over US$20 million in gold reserves. Take into account that, in 2010, the American Catholic Church alone spent US$170 billion. Definitely a case of do as I say, not as I do. So much of the wealth of the Catholic Church cannot even be guessed at. Probably in the hundreds of quintillions of dollars. A quote “Jesus was the poorest of the poor. Roman Catholicism, which claims to be His church, is the richest of the rich, the wealthiest institution on earth. (…) How come, that such an institution, ruling in the name of this same itinerant preacher, whose want was such that he had not even a pillow upon which to rest his head, is now so top-heavy with riches that she can rival - indeed, that she can put to shame - the combined might of the most redoubtable financial trusts, of the most potent industrial super-giants, and of the most prosperous global corporation of the world?”
Liberals have such a strange idea about wealth. They think of it as a pie and when all the pieces are dealt out the pie is finished. That's not the case.
Wealth is infinite and there's no correlation to poor people staying poor because the rich are richer. In fact the opposite is true and as a whole the world has never been wealthier or have people had a better everyday life than they do right now in any way you want to measure it.
Liberals are always so envious, always wanting to take someone else's property to give away to the undeserving.
Interesting as the Catholics - as an institution - have been the biggest agents of Colonialism and Exploitation in LatAm. Given the indemic limitations of the LatAm countries to compete in a digital world, Catholicism has been one crippling burden too many to bear.

I believe it would be a great idea! Convincing the Church and large corporations to put a sizeable chunk of their wealth into creative schemes like microcredit, renewable energy sources and small business ventures would instantly mean millions of new jobs in the developing world. This would be the perfect moment because it would effectively boost the world's economy. I am sure Pope Francisco would be on board.
If there is one thing that this world could happily do without, it is Catholicism. oh and Islam too. Neither are fit to preach to people in the 21st century.
Amazing. The Church brings in a progressive pope, and critics begin to mushroom--critics who nobody, ever, had heard when conservative popes were in place.
It may be true that everything comes back to politics.

In spite of naysayers and prophets of doom, many Argentines appear decided to hold on to the Kirchnerist candidate.

Buenos Aires politics is a vomit from hell. CFK is jewish and consistently gives the signs and makes a mockery of Argentina's catholic history.

With Kiciloff and Timerman managing Argentina's economy and global relations....the joke is on the Argentine people and their history and culture.
