Paying respects to a foreign sovereign is a sign of respect by visiting soldiers or government officials.

Deep down, they know who is superior.
Animal instinct, I guess. They just heeded the call of the pack leader, causing them to throw aside any notions of loyalty and national pride.

Considering the current calamity that constitutes Spain, I only surprised that they didn't seek political asylum.

For the sake of Her Majesty's Government of Gibraltar, don't invite spanish thugs again. Or only if you have them identified and can put a bullet through their heads as they arrive.

    “Queen's Birthday parade in Gibraltar”

Yep. Not the Spanish Queen either. The rightful Queen, HM Elizabeth II.

Same Queen as the Falkland Islands.

What are you going to do about it Paul? Rant and rave? Oooooh scary!!!!!

I love Her Maj, I really do. The Queen of England, respected and admired throughout the world, even in places not occupied by the human race like Argentina… they yearn for a head of state who is like her rather than a head of state who is an international joke like dear Cristina.

    lets see:
“JNN 19 May 2011 DUBLIN — Clashes between Irish police forces and protestors on Tuesday broke out during the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Dublin, many people were arrested, the Irish Times reported.”

“Fiji replaces currency images of Queen Elizabeth II with plants, animals”

    respected my ass.

    @7 Paulie

Dublin? 21 arrests in a city of half a million people (or a metropolitan area of nearly two million if you prefer). I'd imagine that the Gardaí would have locked up far more than that after chucking out time on an average Friday or Saturday night.

Fiji - Bearing in mind she hasn't been the Head of State in Fiji for twenty-eight years, this is hardly surprising. What is more surprising is that they kept her on their banknotes for that long after they became a republic.

“The two officers followed protocol to the letter, saluting along with local and UK military and law enforcement personnel as the Royal Gibraltar Regiment carried out the ceremony.”

If this is not a sign of respect and instead symbolically some underhand way of disputing sovereignty, it is hard to see how.

The guys saluted the Queen and being in uniform itself shows respect.

It makes a change from GC carrying out pirate activities in Gibraltar's waters.

Any Gibraltarians want to give their opinion?
