MOSCOW (20 June 115) Russia’s TASS news agency announced today that Argentina will purchase in 2022 at least 15 Tupolev Tu-160 “Blackjack” heavy strategic bombers when the aircraft's production is renewed, Russian Air Force Commander Col. Gen. Viktor Bondarev announced Thursday. The Tu-160 strategic bombers will be produced simultaneously with the country’s new bomber, called PAK DA.

The TU-160 was a fantastic plane in it's day and subsequent upgrades gave it impressive flexibility: all theatres, all climatic conditions, 275 tonnes TO weight, supersonic cruising, etc.
The latest version didn't enter service until December 2014 and the Russians are supposed to be letting the mad-hatters have these, their latest long-range bombers??? REALLY???
The argies wouldn't know how to get into the thing, never mind fly it.

It seems to me the Argentines need basic fighter aircraft to defend themselves.

And Chile's F-16s should be able to splash them if the Argies are really stupid and attack Chile.

A purely offensive wepon system, likely to be very expensive to buy as well as maintain.
Which, if the deal goes ahead and if the new built ones work any better than the old ones do, will cause some military re-thinking in Chile and Brazil as well as the British S. Atlantic.
Militarisation anyone!
@ 10 ChrisR
Those still in service have had to be almost completely re-built, but even then they did not upgrade the avionics. Not to mention engine un-reliability.
We shall see what the new build are like (economic conditions/oil price permitting), on paper a powerful strike aircraft, on paper.

On Friday, a senior Argentine military official told the Clarín Group, a major media conglomerate daily newspaper, that Argentina officially asked Russia to sell it the Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet in a commodity barter agreement. Notably, the Russian state-owned ITAR-TASS news agency picked up the report on its website on Friday.

She may well b confusing Russian friendship with Russian aggression against Britain,

But Russia, like china, will not go to war with anyone to get or recover stolen goods for another dictator,

The new Tupolev PAK DA will begin production this year along with Tu-160s being in a new round of production as well. Very doubtful anyone believes 15 of the Tu-160s are for real or many Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets either. (English Translation)
Relations between the Argentina Nation and the United Kingdom are being pushed to the worst catastrophe as the days go by due to vicious smear campaign being conducted through the imperialist media consisting of a litany of malignant lies being currently parroted my the illegal puppet so called Acting Governor Sandra Tyler-Haywood of the illegally held Islas Malvinas.
Outrageous false claims of Argentina is conducting some sort of disruption and blockade of the Malvinas illegal inhabitants as well as being rightful subjects of Argentina testifies to the promotion of unwanted confrontation to hinder the eventual repatriation of the Malvinas to its rightful motherland.
The British imperial imaginary claims are getting disintegrated beyond control and hit hard from all sides for its political crisis and subsequent social catastrophe and confusion.
It is vexed with the daily increasing political might of Argentina, the might of single-minded unity of international relations growing stronger as the days go by.
The group of traitors is busy conducting the above-said false propaganda in a bid to divert elsewhere the people and the world public's bitter criticism of it.
In the grip of extreme fear and uneasiness, the regime is working hard to whip media and riff-raffs toward total confrontation with the Argentine people a foolish act of jumping into fire with a no desire to save the illegal vermin still nesting in our sacred lands. Let the dogs off hell feast on their flesh!
The Argentine government had already made a solemn declaration that those who hurt the dignity of its supreme leadership and drive South Atlantic regional relations into the worst catastrophe would be the primary target of its punishment.
They include the Malvinas illegal squatters whom will pay the ultimate penalty for their evil betrayal of the Argentine fatherland.

@13
Jun 22nd, 2015 - 01:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You are correct. These bomber that Argentina might buy from Russia cannot be considered by any stretch of the imagination to be defensive, they are offensive.
So what is the point in Argentina buying them? They can't be used to defend Argentina, fighter aircraft would be far more suitable, and unless Argentina is thinking of bombing its neighbours for fun I can't see any situation where they could be used. Assuming this sale goes ahead (of which I know we're all skeptical given Argentina's track record of claiming to buy all kinds of military hardware) the would be far more danger to Argentina's neighbours than to the Falklands, as the Falklands are very well defended.
The truth is that the Falklands air defence could wipe out these bombers in minutes should they ever get close to attacking the Falklands.
So either this is another empty 'brag' meant to placate the brainless masses in Argentina, or they're going to be buying a bunch of lemons that will end up rusting on the runway.
It seems Cristina is on a shopping spree before she leaves office...

Tehran, June 22, IRNA
In a surprise announcement, Argentina and Iran have agreed to the introduction into Argentine Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Argentina - FAA) service of the Qaher-313 (Conqueror-313) advanced stealth aircraft with first deliveries in 2022. Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) noted that the agreement marked a great victory for the Islamic revolution.
The F-313 Qaher is designed and indigenously produced in Iran by the Aviation Industries Organization (AIO), a division of the Ministry of Defense, and IRIAF.
The aircraft design is a canard configuration. It is described as a stealth fighter built with advanced materials, a very low radar signature and with low-altitude operations capability. The Qaher can take off and land on short runways and has easy maintenance. Qaher has a payload capacity of carrying two 2000 pound bombs, or greater number of smaller smart guided missiles, or at least 6 air-to-air missiles in the category of the PL-12.

The point is this mischief is that Argentina is in a propaganda campaign to give the false impression that they are rebuilding the glory and pride of the national patrimony in order to deflect growing unhappiness with the declining economy.
Argentina is certainly no as bad as Venezuela, but certainly is a disaster that will get far worse before making a recovery.
The EU and the IMF may eventually help out Greece, but it's doubtful until it's stubborn politicians guarantee major concessions. Argentina has pretty much burned its bridges with those sources and could only return if Argentina turned completely away from its past.

If Russia, China and Brazil are the countries that Argentina wishes to associate with closest and wishes to emulate and wishes to prioritise then don't continually whinge and whine about it. Embrace your future. Your future will look more like Brazil, China and Russia.
But don't be surprised if you are subject to racism like that that exists in Russia.
And don't be surprised if you are unable to articulate any criticism of your government like they are unable to in China. And let's not mention what China has done to their environment.
And don't be surprised if your taxes end up lining the pockets of corrupt politicians like in Brazil.
Because for all the faults of any western country Nostrils shifts his focus to, those faults pale in comparison when compared to these three countries.
Australia has close relations with China (closer than Argentina's).
Has cordial relations with Brazil and strained relations with Russia as befits a country that invaded and annex a neighbour's territory.
