Christ the yanks certainly know how to screw over a company. It is common knowledge that Halliburton destroyed all their data on the Gulf of Mexico cement job and the Blowout preventer. I worked for Halliburton Company years ago and found them very Gung ho.

british + technology = monkey + machine gun.

    the funny thing is this:
farmers in west virginia farmed the ginseng plant out of season = 11 (ELEVEN) arrests

BP oil´s deepwater horizon destroys the entire ecosystem in the gulf of mexico = 0 (ZERO) arrests

do your homework, BP was at one time British Petroleum but no longer. It is a multinational company with many shareholders throughout the world.

Carpet-bagging, puffery and downright lying by 'lawyers' on behalf of chancing their arms claimants is still alive and well in the southern states it seems.

You really have no idea what you're talking about do you? The company is only “British” in name. You'll probably find that even your backward excuse for a country has a share in it.

This payout should be at least 10 times higher than 18.7b.

    Why?

    Revenge?

When a country takes revenge on companies with unrealistic fines then they relegate themselves to scaring business and investment away.

The US isn't that stupid. Unlike some countries and some posters.

We all know that you are not very conversant with our “ mother tongue ” English so you completly missunderstood @8 “ British ” in name. It is a mutinational conglomerate but in now way could it be considered “ British ” in the full sense of the word. If you don't know for a fact what you post is true . DON'T POST

You knew this was coming with the Americans. Its a different story when one of their companies messes up abroad and they go to extreme lengths to avoid liability and god forbid, paying adequate compensation to victims. Look at what they did in Bhopal, its quite shameful what they did there and its still ongoing after 30 years!

The Brits are still trying to deny that British Petroleum is a British Company. They first tried to do this in 2010 during the oil spill. It did not work then and it won't work now.

For the record BP plc is incorporated in England under the Companies (Consolidation) Act 1908 registered number 102498. If you buy NYSE:BP you are buying the shares of this company, and no other. This company has a wholly own subsidiary called BP Corporation North America, Inc. which is incorporated in Ind. This later corporation was known as BP Amoco before about 2002 and Amoco before that.

I think that the reality that British Petroleum is a British company became clear to Americans when the British sent the incompetent, bumbling and very British company president over to manage the spill. And nothing made plain how little the British know and understand the about Americans than that they thought that the demonstrated incompetence of truly British dimensions would be acceptable. Eventually even the British were able to understand how deficient they are and put that operation under proper and competent US management.

British Petroleum has earned a well deserved reputation for incompetence and lack of professionalism within the industry. I think that the British company should be wound up and the US corporation should become the holding company.
