Falklands born, Argentine citizen Alejandro Betts rejected statements published in Clarin which described his 'Malvinas veteran' pension as 'controversial' and admitted he was surprised, when not startled by the headline display the news was given by the Buenos Aires daily in reference to his activity during the 1982 South Atlantic conflict. Jul 04th, 2015 - 06:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0Hear that?
Every Falkland Islander over the age of 32 can collect the pension.
He deserves his quisling pension - Betts was a spy for Argentina
Jul 04th, 2015 - 06:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yep, everyone is an Argentine according to Argie logic. I would request that everyone of working age in 1982 send a letter to TMBOA for said pension.
Jul 04th, 2015 - 06:50 am - Link - Report abuse 0I'm guessing that's US$1,000 per year? Over 23,000 people.... 9,000 that didn't even fight!
Jul 04th, 2015 - 07:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0So the government wastes US$9 million a year. That would employ more than a 100 teachers per year in my country...... probably triple or quadruple that in Argentina.
Wow all those kids in the slums could be actually gaining a real future..... except people like Alex Betts need their 30 pieces of silver.
I believe he fullfills the statutory requirements for an Argentine Veteran's Pension. I agree with some here, he deserves his pension from an Argentine point of view. As from those loyal to Her Mayesty, also these are his pieces of silver and he is entitled to them too.

He's not a veteran in any sense of the word and considering how badly genuine Argentine veterans have been cheated by their government, they have genuine reason to feel vexed.
He's a traitor, but a very useful traitor.
One of my managers was a Marine Commando in 42 Commando and did three tours of N. Ireland.
Jul 04th, 2015 - 11:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0He always said that the only thing he was ever concerned about were the laughingly called 'army' using their rabbit rifles fitted with a sound moderator. You would be on duty and without any warning whatsoever one of you details would go down having been hit by a soft lead 0.22rf lr bullet. No-one died as far as he knew from this action but it caused a fair amount of unease.
Betts of course is lying through his teeth regarding the risk he was taking, a risk brought about by himself turning his back on his pregnant wife and child for an argie tart.
He has earned his place in argie society: he really is one of them. Despicable arsehole that he is.
He is lying. Quite a lot of the population of Stanley lived through the war, in town, and say, despite the circumstances, it wasn't that bad i.e. bullets flying all over the place, bombs going off in the middle of town. Civilians working for the military do not receive a military pension.
Jul 04th, 2015 - 12:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0He wasn't even a spy. He is just a sad, misguided idiot, grasping at anything he can get his hands on. The RG government use him as an example to bolster their false version of events throughout history. There are far more deserving people than he, of the rights to a military pension.

Hardly, Paulie. He fits in just fine with you lot. Nasty, slithery, backstabbing and stupid.
No one was envious of his getting well in with his colonising masters, he thought they would win and he wanted in with them. Along with running away from a legal marriage to marry his girlfriend, makes him a bigamist and then he thinks he deserves a military pension? Come on! I knew you were dumb, but are you really as dumb as you appear to be? He is effectively stealing money from far more deserving people!
He was and is a coward, first and foremost. He was not a soldier. He did not fight. He never faced an enemy (unless you count the RG forces). He underwent no hardship. His life was never in danger. He is just a lying, bigamist coward.
Trust me, no one is in the slightest way jealous of him.

Jul 04th, 2015 - 08:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0List please the money we Islanders receive from the UK - ie british taxpayers please?
LIST IT
Or Shut up you silly little tit.
Do not list the defence Cost as it is just half of 1% of the overall UK defence Budget - and that money would be spent if the military are here - in wongawonga land or timbucktoo -or Germany or UK or exercising in Canada - it makes NO difference. In fact whilst here they can do joint services live training exercises that they would have difficulty being able to do anywhere else in the world.
My elderly parents were in Stanley all the time with mr Betts- they were never afraid and there were no Br bullets to dodge- just sometimes at night triggerhappy scared young Arg conscripts would fire at cats in the dark etc and shot up the Roman catholic Ministers bathroom loo one night - he was NOT amused!- and luckily not performing at the time!
Bettsy boy writes a lot of lies and fantasy stories - but he would - he is now an Argentine!

Doesn't matter where he was or what nationality he thought he had. Look up who can commit treason and under what circumstances. Under English & Welsh law, Betts is already guilty. Who would be jealous of a criminal. At least he can thank his stars that England has abolished the death penalty. Unless the UK was at war. With argieland, for instance.
@31. Shall we give Pablo a hint? From time to time, the EU grants money to the Falkland Islands. It is possible that there may be money from Britain in such grants. Look at this; http://en.mercopress.com/2015/03/02/falkland-islands-included-in-european-funds-for-environmental-projects

On Sunday and Monday March 10-11, 2013 a vote takes place asking the Falkland Islanders if they want the UK taxpayer to continue forking out almost £100,000 per annum for every family living on these desolate isles, when at home we have a massive unemployment problem and other important underfunded issues. No doubt the answer will be “Yes”, and this is understandable from the point of view of those who live there. When free gifts of such ample proportions are offered without ties, except a declaration of loyalty to the crown, it is a no-brainer. This funding, and much more has been going on for over 30 years.

Jul 05th, 2015 - 08:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As I have pointed out to you and MANY MANY others have stated- including British Politicians and Military Advisors - There would be NO savings of £100 million to the British taxpayer if the Br Forces were not here - because they would just be based back in UK-Europe etc.
I estimate- and I know as I am involved in this area- About £500,000 a year is what comes into the Falklands economy from the prescence of the Br Forces. No that is £500 per family if you want to put it that way!!
Oh and by the way We Islanders PAY the British Min of Defence £3 million a year in flight tickets towards the cost of their airlink.
WE Islanders also contribute approx. £75 million a year to the British economy in goods exported from the UK to the Islands. Also we contribute about £5 million a year into the British wages economy from the hire and employment of people from UK - who bank a lot of that money in UK and spend it on their house mortgages etc etc.
So come on then WHERE are your FACTS?

As far as you, an Argentinian, spouting off about how the UK should organise it's economy one can only laugh....an Argentinian trying to make out they know to run a national economy? what a joke.
66 and 67
Jul 06th, 2015 - 04:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0you both are not very bright, uhh?
argentina is an economic disaster.
and yet hundreds of thousands of bolivians, peruvians, paraguayans and chilotes emigrate every month en-masse here.
it does not mean a shite.
now, try to use that little brain of yours and try to extrapolate it to the uk case.
it is the same, you nabos.
a good number of argentinians have emigrated to europe, most of all france, spain and italy, in the last years.
and millions of englanders have emigrated to spain, france and italy too.
so, the uk receives hundreds of thousands of african, bulgarian, pakistani, etc. immigrants while expels hundreds of thousands of britons.
same shite, different smell, you brainwashed isleteers.
Yes that's right, people emigrate...so what?
Jul 06th, 2015 - 04:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I was pointing out that you, Paul, are in no position to expect anyone to take seriously your rantings about the UK government's economic decisions and the use of their armed forces. Your concern about the UK taxpayers is rather touching but hardly relevant. The UK is NOT going to stop protecting the Falklands from Argentine imperialism, better get used to it.
BTW did you hear the good news from yesterday:
http://thehockeyhouse.net/international-hockey/falkland-islands-win-copa-invernada-in-ice-hockey-tournament-debut/
Not bad eh? Falkland Islands kicked your arse.

Jul 06th, 2015 - 04:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No Paulito, you have got it wrong again, Brits RETIRE to France, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Living in the prosperous half of Europe, we have the money to do so.
In fact, I was thinking about buying an Island or two in the Aegean myself.
I heard that a lot of them are going to be coming on the market reaallll cheap, very soon.
I also hear that you have a real problem with drugs cartels re-locating to Argentina these days.
Probably explains the “en-masse” you’re talking about.
By the way, Chile beat Argentina on penalties 4-1, winning the Copa América.
pugol en contra
Jul 06th, 2015 - 06:44 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Brits RETIRE to France, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
retire??
an yet they are a burden for the taxpayer of those countries.
not to mention the huge, huge quantity of britons that go to France, Spain, Portugal and Italy to commit crimes.
as i have said many times, the most important exportation of the uk are criminals.
Revealed: Britain's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives
Detectives are urging British holidaymakers in Spain to help find the criminals and get them extradited to the UK.
REVEALED: Mugshots of 13 British criminals who have fled to Spain
THIRTEEN British criminals hiding out in Spain have been named and shamed in an appeal released today.

Jul 06th, 2015 - 07:05 pm - Link - Report abuse 0A burden on the taxpayers? big deal. You lot with your inability to pay YOUR debts are a burden on ALL taxpayers.
Ah yes, and just in case you missed it:
thehockeyhouse.net/international-hockey/falkland-islands-win-copa-invernada-in-ice-hockey-tournament-debut/
Falkland Islands kicked your asses for you.
Paulie:
Jul 06th, 2015 - 08:11 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Why does such a rich country like RGland NEED £36m from the UK government, in foreign aid?
AND, it has all ready been proved to you that we don't cost the UK government anything. They quote you gave was from before the referendum. It was by a disaffected journo, and not actually true. What do the Falkland Islands receive in aid from the UK? List it all.
And so many Brits go to live out their retirement in Spain? So what? They don't receive Spanish pensions, they're not entitled to them, you cock. And as for criminals running away to Spain, where did the majority of the Nazis go at the end of the Second War?
I understand my language perfectly well, stop prevaricating and answer the questions.
Never once have you written about the foreign aid RGland receives. Are you so fucking stupid?
Paulie- We know the following:
Jul 07th, 2015 - 01:36 am - Link - Report abuse 0You are Thick

Jul 07th, 2015 - 11:30 am - Link - Report abuse 0I read one of those articles. I quote:
''I am obliged to say that, in international law, Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands is a nonsense. The Argentinians are not the indigenous inhabitants of the islands, nor does the Argentine government represent the indigenous population of the Falklands. The large majority of Argentinians are not even the indigenous population of Argentina. They are simply a rival bunch of colonialists, very many of British descent.''
I suggest you read articles yourself before you post links.

Jul 07th, 2015 - 02:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You really do insist on being a thicko!!
One article you had already posted earlier.
The other makes the point Mony shows.

Both refer only to the defence Costs - Which I and others - and even the British Govt, Min of Defence and others have all made very public - this figure would hardly change at all even if there were no Falklands - as these forces would just be stationed somewhere else and training and excercising somewhere else.
Come on silly Arse- We are all askin g you to come up with REAL FACTS to back up your claims of all these UK taxpayer subsidies we are supposed to be receiving.
Come on LIST THEM - or give up silly boy.

Jul 07th, 2015 - 03:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0“huge, huge quantity of Britons”
“THIRTEEN British criminals”
You seem to have some issues with perspective there Paulito.
Or is your ability to count so limited that to you, 13 is a “huge” number?
Lose count of how many Goals Chile scored in the Copa America final did you, well it was more than Argentina’s 1 goal, after that it probably becomes a bit of a stretch for you.
@76: Paulie: I'll make it easier for your over-taxed brain......
Jul 07th, 2015 - 04:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Are you going to hand the £36m back to the British tax-payer, that is sent by the UK government to RGland, every year as Foreign Aid for educational purposes?
There you go. One question, answer it.
Poor little Paulie- all he can do is make wild accusations and then flail around arse up trying to produce years old comments by minor (and somewhat inaccurate) reporters.

you and your football team, players and all that shite, including that imbecile sampaoli who i hope they expel from argentina for ever, are a shame for the human race, you dirty chilote you.
not only you are the permanent losers (argentina won this tournament 14 times and defeated chilotelandia 53 times) but also you are the dirtiest cheaters on earth.
the whole bunch of refs played for chilotelandia, marcos rojo deserved a clear penalty, but what can you expect when the tournament is organized by chilotelandia, eh?

Paulie, your words:-
Jul 07th, 2015 - 11:13 pm - Link - Report abuse 01. an yet they are a burden for the taxpayer of those countries.
guess they have more credibility than a parasite
2. the best the useless british government can do with that money, is to buy proper food to the millions of people who eat that shite from the food-banks.
3. you should ask the honest, impoverished british taxpayer how much they spend to support you all.
Parasite? Phrase 2 stands for itself. Phrase 3? Your words, I remind you. Calling me names won't work. Saying that I take money from the British government/tax-payer? I paid a lot of tax in the UK and never once went to a foodbank, neither did I ever claim unemployment benefit, I've never been unemployed or sponged off the government.
A small point and take it for what it's worth. The only reason the military are here in any force is because of the neighbours, before 1982 (just before you shot UN Resolution 2065 out of the water) there were only 32 members of the Royal Marines here.
You are the reason the British government spends money in maintaining a presence here. If you learnt to behave like a proper democratic country instead of the two-bit semi-dictatorship that you are, things might be a bit different.
The fact remains that Alex Betts doesn't deserve a military pension any more than I deserve a Spanish pension. He was a coward, a bigamist and a dupe of the junta. He continues to be a dupe of your government and a disgrace to humanity. I feel sorry for your veterans who have to put up with this kind of idiocy. I really do.
