Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff told regional peers on Friday there is no room for anti-democratic adventures in South America, a day after the speaker of Brazil's lower house said he was weighing legal arguments for her impeachment. Speaking to the heads of state of Mercosur, Rousseff said political leaders should strive for dialogue to resolve ideological differences. Read full article

South America's concept of democracy should be the subject of a Ken Burn's documentary. Can anyone tell me when a member of the legislative body initiates impeachment anti democracy? These corrupt Latin Lameass Losers need to realize that the rules that placed in power.....the very ones they abused, are also the very same rules that will be used to remove them.

Jul 19th, 2015 - 12:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@14. It's quite amazing what you've made out of your crass comment @7. You start by pontificating as though you are automatically correct and in a position to pontificate. Based on reliable evidence, the police aren't going to turn up to a homicide for 48 hours because of the need to process the speeding offences first. So you'd just let a murderer get away with it, would you? And what's wrong with killing drug dealers? How many do each of them kill? So each one is a mass murderer. You do know how they operate, don't you? But chances are they only get punished for supply. Some reason they shouldn't be punished for everything else they've done?
Seems you have the attitudes of a lefty, do-gooding, blind wimp. Who are the direct cause of most of the world's current problems. I thought that, in 1939/40, we'd learned that appeasement and understanding doesn't work. It's perceived as weakness. Much like being imprisoned for 6 months for stealing the peoples' money and being let out after a couple of weeks. Yes, I'm talking about MPs. Legally, hamstrung by interfering stupid Europeans, what's wrong with doing what's necessary to keep thieving, scrounging, migrant foreigners out? Proper British citizens lining the threatened coastline and relevant roads with their rifles.
Democracy is, after all, government by the people. How can the administration of justice by a citizen be wrong? Logically, the people of Britain are entitled to carry, and use, weapons provided they are intellectually capable. How much more polite and law-abiding society would be. Law-abiding citizen approached by a yob demanding his wallet and mobile phone. Citizen shoots yob through the head. What's wrong?

While Terence does indeed sound 'careful and thoughtful', he hides behind quick research to pretend to know more than those who have experienced things first-hand....It's like a celibate priest telling a married couple how to poke.
Also, judgement is not based on only one post - he always defends those politicians who are notoriously corrupt, with all this talk about proving one's accusation....in this case, accusations are simply opinions based on public (and not-so-public) knowledge....which don't need to be proved, and that I have the right to express.
@42 Terence,
There is one hell of a difference between making a personal accusation against someone you know and having a firm opinion about someone in politics, whose history is a long list of suspicious acts.....while in the first case, best be prepared to support your accusation or pay the price, the second is based on realistic perception of daily facts...and does not need to be 'proved' to have an unfavourable opinion. I believe Lula is a criminal... since 2005 there have been several corruption scandals, and it is near impossible to not link Lula to them. His phrase Eu não sei de nada is no defense, as neither is Dilma's about Petrobras. She was President of the Board of Directors of PB, and Minister of Mines & Energy while all this went on, and she too, alleges total ignorance of the facts ? and you simply accept it ? Look at Paulo Maluf...loads of corruption money found in foreign bank accounts, in his name, and he denies it's his. Proof galore and yet no condemnation.
As to the term numbnuts, if you care to do some quick research, you'll discover I have been using this term for a long time, way before you appeared. Don't believe me, check it out !

Jul 24th, 2015 - 01:05 am - Link - Report abuse 0Those that want Rousseff out are involved in scandals themselves .. ..— There is no doubt the investigations on Petrobras can lead to new information that makes the president completely nonviable. But every Brazilian knows it is more likely to see that happening to the Speaker of the House, Eduardo Cunha, and the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros — both new adversaries to the administration. Brazil’s Attorney-General is already investigating both of them. They are playing the chaos game, by blaming PT and the administration for their troubles in Justice.

Jul 24th, 2015 - 11:35 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I don't, for a second, believe either Cunha , or Renan Calheiros for that matter, are innocent of the 'crimes' they are being investigated for.....very few politicians in this country can claim they are clean, and be telling the truth. The fact is that the impeachment rumours were already circulating well before Cunha's name was mentioned with regards to taking a US$ 5 million bribe from Julio Camargo, an accusation later confirmed by Youseff .
As to the probability of Cunha and Calheiros losing the fight against Dilma, I agree it's pretty high, but only on account of the fact that Dilma has the government behind her, ready to use any strongarm tactics that they feel are needed to protect her....even if she too, is just as guilty of malfeasance.
