The Brazilian government registered a primary deficit of $470 million (1.6 billion Real) in the first half of 2015, according to figures from the National Treasury release on Thursday, O Globo newspaper reported. The deficit is the worst result since 1997. In the same period last year, the government recorded a surplus of $5 billion (17 billion real). Read full article

Aug 01st, 2015 - 04:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0From Brasil Wire:
Brasil is having a horrible 2015; a far less favourable global economic situation, a number of policy misjudgments made early in President Rousseff’s first mandate and rolling scandals that have followed 2014’s election have resulted in flurry of headlines both at home and abroad decrying “Brasil in Crisis” or “On the Brink“.
However, to seasoned Brasil observers, and in the context of the ongoing situation in Greece, this kind of language is sensationalist and excessive. 2015 will be the worst GDP contraction in 25 years but this is a sledgehammer statistic which does not get near describing the situation alone. Will it be a bad year for Brazilian workers? Yes. Are we likely to see roll backs in the impressive gains Brasil has made tackling inequality and hunger? Possibly minor. Will Brasil lose its hard-won Investment Grade status? Maybe, depending on who you talk to. But the real question is, will the Brazilian government be walking cap in hand into the International Monetary Fund asking for assistance, or risking a default on debts? No...

A certain idiot who thinks economics is an art, not a science (it's neither, it's guesswork mainly) now thinks the following person should be credited with knowing what is going to happen in Brazil:
Aug 01st, 2015 - 05:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Natasha Hakimi Zapata is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Latin American Literature at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. She also holds a Creative Writing M.F.A. from Boston University and both a B.A. in Spanish and a B.A. in English with a creative writing concentration from the University of California, Los Angeles. In college she received scholarships from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the Smithsonian Latino Center and the UCLA Alumni Association. She has also received several awards for creative writing, including the May Merill Miller Award for Poetry in 2008 and 2010, the Ruth Brill Award for short fiction in 2010 and the Falling Leaves Award in 2010. Most recently she was awarded the 2012 Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship and was a semifinalist for the Dzanc Books/ Guernica International Literary Award.

Why care what other think! Should be totally unimportant to your opinion and beliefs.
Aug 02nd, 2015 - 03:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0However if you aren't using an anonymous forum to synthesise and broadcast your own opinion then it sorta defeats the purpose.
Just posting quotes and articles verbatim makes you nothing more than a Google algorithm.
As for Voice and Think, they predominantly seek out reactions so the entire forum becomes about them. The equivalent of a child chucking a tantrum in a supermarket. Vestige has his own opinions and attempts to argue them. But he also likes to make claims that can't be refuted unless you also fall into the same trap as he does.
So post how you wish. But don't act like you are somehow superior to others on here because of that. You aren't. You are like the rest of us. I love how the author talks about the narrowing of inequality ignoring that's is free money to slumdwellers barely moving them into what the gov't claims to be a middle class. All of that will be reversed and it end up pulling people who where legitimate middle class into poverty.
Just like in Venezuela.
The vast majority of Soy (grains) is most likely unprofitable in Brazil next year. High taxes, high interest rates, $ depreciation, over burdensome work regs will kill what little mfg they do so they'll have continued unemployment increases.

”Liar', in 'your' irrelevant opinion. Your entire world revolves around your ridiculously exagerated insistence that people prove, beyond doubt, anything they may assert....Is this because you have always sat on the fence and tried (unsuccessfully) to defend the indefensible ? Instead of coming back with a reasonable counter argument, you prefer to demand they provide proof to support their opinions ? Convenient if you don't know what you are talking about.
You refuse to accept people's generally accepted opinions on current events, such as, on Dilma's (and Lula's) direct link to the corruption scheme within PB, on the unfounded claims to the Falklands by the Argy trolls and the CFK Government , so let's turn it around :
In the 'absence' of proof of 1) Dilma's / Lula's innocence in all the corruption they are presently being accused of ; or 2) in the absence of proof of Argentina's sovereignty over the Falklands ....do you simply accept their 1) declarations of innocence , or 2) their claims to the contrary, just because they say so ?
I imagine that your principles sway with the wind, that you are a person who is unable to maintain a dialogue with anyone, without interrupting and demanding they produce the 'burden of proof'.........do you actually have any friends, or just acquaintances that keep their fair distance from you ??

You make untruthful accusation and cannot provide one iota of proof, and are not even man enough to apologize. So you can't rely on the fall-back position of oops a mistake. It was deliberate lie intended to smear a party who is able to show what a big empty blusterer you really are.

Aug 10th, 2015 - 05:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yr posts are verbal diarrhoea ; You tell me where I have deliberately lied ....be specific, and don't bother coming back with your useless theories on 'burden of proof'.....And if you take such offense to, and consider my accusations against Lula, PT etc, untruthful, I can only conclude you are a stinkin' red 'petista', and you firmly believe the only truth is yours.
And you even have the cheek to ask me to apologize......are you brain dead ??
Have to agree with ChrisR, you are indeed the 'brainless one'.

Aug 10th, 2015 - 07:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You stated re: post 58 When challenged you deny whay you have written. When I challenged you to produce any example, you cannot. So that makes you proven liar. Always trying for moral high ground. But, the only proven wrong doer is you with lying and your copious libeling. You claim much much but it's always unproven empty rhetoric.
Like you, Chris engages in argumenta ad hominems because he always bested. We must make a personal attack when there is no argumentative basis for our speech. Cicero, Pro Flacco, c.58. B.C

Aug 10th, 2015 - 11:06 pm - Link - Report abuse 0My #58, refers to yr # 57, which I presume goes way back to my #43 where I wrote Even you should have realized by now that it is impossible to “win” a “debate” with any of the Argy trolls.
You replied, @ yr #44, ”I beg to differ, while they may not accept they are beaten, the evidence shows they are. You might not have noticed but there are no Argentines attempting anymore legal or historical claims to Falklands….etc.”
Was not 100% sure whether you were referring to the Argy trolls or to Timmerman/Filmus, but in either case, I disagreed with you, based on the recently created Ministry of the Malvinas in Argentina. In yr #46 you came back saying it was obvious you could only be referring to the Argy posters ; Well, Mr.Hill, not all that obvious......and based on THAT, and that alone, you accuse me, without proof, of being a liar ? Ah, of course, something you would never do. What a wanker !
So based on what in retrospect seems to be a misunderstanding, you have decided you know me, and start with endless crap about 'burden of proof', rules and G knows what else. For someone who goes around spouting the rules of 'Fair Play', you are a disappointment.
And why use so many quotations ? can't you think up your own stuff ? Just a rhetorical question.
And last of all , your staunch defense of the “Brazilian Democracy”, under other headlines in MP, such as yr #22 in “Rouseff, ever so weak…”, in response to Tik-Tok” => “I have never made any political claims about Brazil. In fact it is you numbnuts who is implying that it is not a “great bastion of democratic rule”. Therefor, it you who bear's the Burden of Proof learn.lexiconic.net/fallacies/index.htm. There is no onus on me under the rules of logic to refute your assertion”......
is strong evidence that either you are misinformed with regards to the PT’s very particular 'style' of democracy, or that you are plain stupid. Take your pick..
