The language, culture, knowledge, pride, institutions, laws, how to think and see the world ... everything is preserved in Brazil. @1, 3. Bet it sinks. But wait, it's UK-flagged. Will argieland send out its rowboats? To be run down. More than three times the size of any naval vessel anywhere. And its been renamed. It's the CMA CGM Alexander von Humboldt.

More crap.
1) The Olympics have NOT started you idiot. What's going on in Rio today, are simply trial runs to see if the organization and timing systems for the 'water events' to be held in the Olympics - which start NEXT year - work. That is all.
2) cannot answer that, as everyone is entitled to his/her opinion...But, one thing for sure, only the brazzos - yes, like you brASSHOLE - believe it was in Brazil , last year.
3) Yes, that that Brazil would not win.....and it didn't ; the 7 x 1 is proof that Brazil is no longer top dog. Confirmed by the recent Copa America.
4) That is 'your' silly, irrelevant opinion...it is usually the stupid, ignorant 'petistas' that go around saying that, when in truth, they are envious of the USA.
5) STFU.
Could not the British government buy on of these things,
Aug 01st, 2015 - 06:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0send it to dover, and take all that cargo from the lorries and take t around to another port in the med.
and sod the French,
or not a good idea...
@7 Briton
Aug 01st, 2015 - 09:15 pm - Link - Report abuse 0...or not such a good idea... is more like it. These enormous ships are only good for the long haul....too expensive to stop at every port , and too big to berth at normal docks, not to mention that the current cranes in most ports aren't tall enough, nor can they reach over to the far side of the ship. The cranes need to be able to take off at least 100 boxes per hour, otherwise the ship would never leave port. The need to cut costs and the result of increased trade and logistical integration.
Shame really , it might have helped,

@9 you're right....shipping 30 years ago, with more carriers, smaller ships, more port calls, decent freight rates, less aggressive competition, was a damned sight more interesting.

Aug 03rd, 2015 - 11:10 am - Link - Report abuse 0It is a rare occasion that you are correct about something:
Portugal was transplanted to America, including his Royal House and the vast majority of its nobility.
But I am surprised that you celebrate the actions of English imperialism.

Aug 03rd, 2015 - 11:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0But I never said that imperialism is a good thing. English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Dutch and Belgian empires was maintained at the expense of human suffering. We need to know what happened to us so we can evolve into something better.
@12
Aug 03rd, 2015 - 02:36 pm - Link - Report abuse 0In your first post you make clear that Brasil's links with Asia along with language, culture, knowledge, pride, institutions, laws, how to think and see the world were derived from the fact that Portugal was transplanted to America.
It is also clear that you think this was a good thing and good for Brasil.
What is also clear is that until I pointed it out to you, you probably didn't realise that it was the English who evacuated the Portuguese court to Brasil.
We need to know what happened to us so we can evolve into something better.
@13 Condorito
Aug 03rd, 2015 - 06:58 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Agree with you. The brASSHOLE is now trying - unsuccessfully - to sidestep the issue. He is quite stupid, to the point of contradicting himself without even realizing it. It is obvious that his semi-reasonable rant ...The language, culture, knowledge, pride, institutions, laws, how to think and see the world ... everything is preserved in Brazil is written with a certain amount of 'pride' ....so no use him trying to deny it now.
The biggest problem with Portugal was transplanted to America, including his Royal House and the vast majority of its nobility, is the rather rotten and corrupt legacy that now prevails in Brazil. The arrival of the Portuguese Court to Rio de Janeiro in 1808, when D.João was fleeing from Napoleon's imminent invasion of Portugal, brought a lot of nothing good.....One of their first acts in Rio, was to confiscate a few hundred good houses and expel the families who owned and lived in them, in order to accomodate the hundreds of members of the Portuguese Court....from then on, it became clear that to to get ahead in this new society, you had better be a friend of the King's......
