This Saxon company should be liable for all loss of life and environmental and materials damage.

Any fine or compensation below 320 billion yuan is favoring scam.

I got out of bed this morning and had a big Yuan before drinking my coffee.

Stop being a super douche and post in $usd so it is easily understood.

Yes, this is a terrible disaster and I am sure the government will go after them for massive damages.

The Truth is that Vale owns 50% of this mine.

However, neither Vale nor BHP Billiton are based on Saxony, Germany.

No chance, the whole point of having a local subsidiary is that any liability is limited to that company, you can’t touch the corporate parents.

If Samarco can’t bear the costs then they will simply shut it down. You can have the mine back, it sounds like an environmental disaster waiting to happen anyway.

With the worldwide drop in commodities demand & prices, some downsizing is necessary.

Saxons!! Good lord and I thought it was the Franks, but then if the Franks were there they would have had their asses kicked by the Moors and Basques.

@1 brasshole (the one with shit, and now sludge for brains)
As you should know, Samarco Mineração S.A. is a Brazilian mining company, founded in 1977, and owned 50/50 by Vale S.A. and the Anglo-Australian BHP Billiton....

If the affected families are ever to be properly indemnified, you can be sure it will be because Billiton is one of the partners. If it were up to the Brazilian partner, they would probably let it drag on indefinitely until the tragedy is forgotten, and this would be allowed to happen because they are probably in cahoots with the government of MG, run by the PT, which until now, has assumed absolutely no responsibility whatsoever with regards to the fact that it is their obligation - along with Samarco's - to monitor the dams to ensure that they are safe. Knowing the Brazilian authorities, they'll probably conclude it was a fatality, just an accident hard to predict... when in reality, more of “an accident waiting to happen.” And there are 700 such dams in MG...

But please tell us, what difficult calculation did you make to come up with the figure of 320 billion Yuan ? Did it just appear in your brown matter ?

More British incompetence. BHP is famous around the world for this sort of malfeasance. Basically they are the British Petroleum of the iron ore mining industry.

Not only are you despicable but you are gutless as well. If you want to use the 'N word' then use it. Don't hide behind euphemisms.

And I remember well when British Petroleum, in an effort to deny their British character, tried to re brand themselves as “BP”. The fact is that the US market is British Petroleum's largest and being British in the US is not an asset.

Its pathetic that nobody wants to admit to being British. Where's their pride?
