@13. Sorry, can't agree. Check out the facts on the ground. In my employment before I retired, I discovered many migrants, 20 years in residence, who had never bothered to learn English. And, after a couple of years in Germany to get EU documents, where will they head. The answer is a new “classification” instead of the grant of “nationality”. If EU member states have to issue documents let it be “Foreign Approved Residents and Travellers”. FARTs for short. A large part of passports or travel documents could be devoted to restrictions on their “rights”. Just as an example, muslim and African individuals could be required to wear Western clothing anywhere outside their residences. Merkel is either a fool or has a plan to undermine other countries so that Germany can be supreme. Wouldn't it be good if the “plan” misfired and the migrants destroyed Germany? Remind me of the meaning of the word “Union”.
@16. Good idea. Except that military capabilities have improved. Remember 1982? Defined with being impossible to retake the Falklands. Watch Britain destroy Moscow. And, probably, Berlin. Indeed, considering the education level and wage expectations of Europeans, there is always plenty of work for the unskilled. Because they're the ones willing to sweep the streets and clean the toilets to make sure their children don't have to.
Anyway there are plenty of doctors and nurses and scientists and future entrepreneurs in these refugee groups as well. Not all but generalising they are all uneducated would be wrong.
Most of us come from countries built on and by immigrants; UK, US, Canada, Argentina and of course Australia. Successive waves each eventually assimilate and contribute. Not all do. But I prefer to concentrate on the significant statistic of those that do..... easily upwards of 99% if a country lets them.
Australia received many refugees from Lebanon during its civil war. We then have Iraqi and Afgani and Sudanese. They all have initial difficulties. Eventually the benefit of the 99% outweighs the problems of the 1%.
