One of Brazil’s most powerful women says she was only defending her honor when she tossed a glass of white wine in the face of an equally powerful elected official who called her a “man-eater.” Read full article
The Brazilian extreme right as well as extremely corrupt is extremely rude. They think that engulfed the king's crown and think they should be served by the people, instead of serving.
Senator José Serra (picture) received millions of dollars from Chevron to defend the interests of the North American company in the pre-salt.
A senator of the Republic of Brazil defending foreign interests!
The corruption of government opponents has no limits! He deserved a rifle shot in the middle of the head, a glass of wine was little!
I do not know these characters, hence I will refrain myself from posting anything about Brazilian politics.
However, I´d like to point something: She said “I did what any honorable woman would do”, I say BS to that. Throwing stuff to other´s faces is not a honorable way to defend yourself, that may even confirm she is a cheap lady used to react like that.
Pretty poor weapon of choice IMO.
Now imagine that a man throws his wine against a lady´s face because she made a derogatory comment: oh the cry from the feminists !
Civil people do not offend others. And when civil people are verbally attacked, they reply with smart, not with wine.
I suppose with the impending potential replacement of Dilma, some politicians are trying to stand out from the crowd...... and for once it isn't standing out for being corrupt.
@6 brasshole, for the record.... eu não sou chileno
On the other hand, your attempts to communicate in any language we have seen so far seem to reflect not only a clear inability to form a rationally constructed message, but also a disturbing mental condition that calls for professional intervention.
And 60 Yes 60 new boats for the royal navy announced today,
Yippee yippee,
But alas despite the defence minister stating they will protect the mighty carriers,
They are rather very small, 52 foot,
In port protection only,
Still it increases the books they will say.

Defence Secretary announced a new £13.5million contract with BAE Systems for 60 new PACIFIC 24 Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boats. Though dwarfed in size by the Carriers, the P24 form a vital part of the Royal Navy fleet, not only acting as ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore transfer, but rapid response craft in fast rescue, anti-piracy and counter-narcotics missions. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/third-astute-submarine-formally-handed-over-to-the-royal-navy
Has anyone looked at these vessels? They are the type of thing used to patrol the Thames by the RNLI. Still, once brought into service, the Tories will say that the UK has the largest Navy that we have had for 30 years

The Brazilian extreme right as well as extremely corrupt is extremely rude. They think that engulfed the king's crown and think they should be served by the people, instead of serving.
First of all, asshole, there is no extreme right in Brazil, except for a few skin-heads...and if I were you, I'd keep clear of them.....they don't like faggots.
Anyway, talking of 'rude', I think that the title of King of Rude should go to Lula, as so should those of King of Ignorance, of CorruPTion, of ContradiKtion, of Drunks, of Liars, of Thieves......also, King of 'piss-in-his-pants' as he once did while in public ....the long stain in the front of his trousers was too obvious to miss...,
@21 Skip
Maybe you missed the point... it's a cultural thing ; Presumably in Australia, where you have a more civilized culture (than in Brazil) , calling someone a faggot may not amount to much....but in Brazil, where native Brazilians usually feel the urge to prove they are 'macho men' all the time, it definitely is an insult ; On the other hand, if your intention was to point out that calling the Brasshole a faggot was not insulting enough, I'd have to agree with you.
Using sexual identity for any sort of insult or any attempt to disempower, denigrate or connotate is unacceptable.
It doesn't reflect on the victim but on the perpetrator.
It is only considered an insult in Brazil or any macho culture because there homosexuality is considered weaker, less masculine and unnatural.
It is none of those things.
But by using it as an insult you perpetuate those beliefs.
The only way a culture can move past such stereotypes is to stop using them. You didn't belittle Brasileiro who is usually too stupid and focussed on his next inane post, instead you strengthened an idea that causes teenage boys to commit suicide instead of being seen as all the negative connotations such an insult encompasses.
Inadvertently you perpetuate the idea that it is better to lie about your true identity than be honest about who you are. The young man that marries a girl instead of accepting he would prefer to marry a guy. The father that prefers to ostracise or beat his son because they don't conform to his version of what a REAL man is.
Don't use it as an insult because it isn't an insult to straight people. It is an insult to fragile gay men (and woman) who don't deserve to be denigrated so you can try to hurt someone else.
I am an out, proud, gay male. I own my identity. Don't use my identity to insult someone else. My identity isn't a weakness. Use their actual weaknesses to insult them.

Well said !!
I was brought up in an extreme macho culture in Glasgow where it was the accepted norm to use the derisory terms of poof or nancy boy.
The TV and films had a stereotype gay...flamboyantly dressed , histrionic and outrageous in behaviour. This perpetuated the myth.
When I got older, I realised that I had been working with some gay men and some lesbians. They were no different to me in everything but sexuality.
It changed my way of thinking. They were no threat to me or mine.
In fact, they were rather good company. They did not choose to be the way they were any more than me.
To use the term gay implying that you are less than a man and a girly effeminate , is ridiculous.
Alexander the Great was gay or bi-sexual and he would pass any definition of a macho man !
@23 Skip
I'm not going to argue with you, because this is not about trying to offend gay people ; it has nothing to do with them. Just let's not simply dismiss the context in which I was using the term.....calling an ignorant brazzo, supposedly straight, a 'fag', IS an insult. My intention was to get him pissed-off, NOT to offend gay people, so much so, that in the past, I have managed to extract the desired reaction from the idiot, by calling him just that, in Portuguese.
On the other hand, I fully agree with you calling gay people 'gay', with the intention of insulting them, IS ridiculous, and I feel absolutely NO need to insult them because of their sexual identity.
