By Barack Obama - The epidemic of gun violence in our country is a crisis. Gun deaths and injuries constitute one of the greatest threats to public health and to the safety of the American people. Every year, more than 30,000 Americans have their lives cut short by guns. Suicides. Read full article

A lot of what he says has merit but he is damaged by previous hysterical actions and the latest crocodile tears performance.

What about the responsibility of the gun owners to keep them safely out of the hands of others? Electronic locks don't always open, have you ever been locked out of your hotel room because the electronic lock failed, I know I have on many occasions over the years. If you need the gun to function and you lose your life because it hasn't unlocked is Obama going to cry tears over you? No fucking chance.

And how can a gun being fired in the correct sequence be a product liability fault?

    Cue the deniers!

He's the worst Prez we've had in the last 100yrs..maybe ever

    30,000/340,000,000 is not an epidemic
I don't think he understands nobody takes him seriously

The best thing he did was turn most of the USA conservative again.

    Hello GeoffWard2,
Long time, no see, or no hear.
    Welcome back.
    ********************************************************
    lts a difficult subject.
Although l don't like to see a public defenceless, its very hard to filter out the crazies from owning a gun.
e.g. lf the troops(& their guns) left the Falklands tomorrow, the RGs would be here within hours. Extreme example, they are not civilians l know.
But if you are going to outlaw ALL guns then you have to be able to account for & confiscate ALL guns.
No use taking them off the law abiding public & leaving them in the hands of criminals etc.
    Don't know the answer.

    Jan 11th, 2016 - 08:56 pm - Link - Report abuse 0
  • ElaineB

@10 They are not trying to take the guns away are they? I agree it would be near impossible as they are so entrenched in the culture of the U.S. and it would take a massive change of thinking. Gun owners seem incredible attached to their killing machines and some seem to need them to feel macho.

I just don't accept the criminal argument. If we were to follow the logic of that why have any laws because the criminals don't respect them. Criminals in the U.K. have guns (some criminals) but we don't have the same level of gun fatalities.

I don't think there is an easy answer but it should be debated.

They are trying to make it more difficult and chip away at the constitutional rights. of law abiding citizens.

The debate has been over long ago.

National polling shows there's no public outcry for any changes.

@13 It's even tougher when the stupid are armed.

Some of the reasons Americans got shot in September 2015:

My cousin and I found a gun. I was posing with it to take pictures to post online and unintentionally shot myself to death. (TX, 9/1)

My neighbors threw a benefit BBQ to raise money for funeral services. I tried the chicken and it was cold. I got in an argument with them, beat them up, and shot two women. (TX, 9/5)

I invited my neighbors to hang out but they didn’t want to, so I shot at them through their door. (OK, 9/8)

I needed to use the bathroom, so I unholstered my gun, unintentionally discharging it through a wall and into the kid I was babysitting. (AZ, 9/8)

I was at a memorial service and some people drove by playing loud music, which seemed disrespectful, so I shot the driver and passenger. (IL, 9/11)

Two football players told me to leave a college party I tried to crash, so I shot them both. (UT, 9/12)

I didn’t like the musical selections at our karaoke party, so I shot three people to death and then killed myself. (LA, 9/13)

    I thought a 43-year-old man was a squirrel, so I shot him. (WI, 9/13)

I was having a dispute with my girlfriend, so I went to her church and shot her, her pastor, and an infant. (AL, 9/20)

I saw somebody getting carjacked, so I started shooting. I shot the carjacking victim in the head. (TX, 9/26)

The guy I was tailgating tapped his brakes. So I shot him. (TX, 9/28)

I saw a guy painting a peace mural. I got into an argument with him and shot him. (CA, 9/29)

You have been inculcated from birth that your country is the best in the world and everyone is jealous. (Nope). You claim to speak for everyone in your country. (You don't). You want every other country to fail so you can gain some self-esteem by being on the 'winning team'. (It is not a competition).

Don't you have an individual identity? Why can't you own your own opinions rather than claim they are the opinions of all Americans. Are you not confident standing alone?

I mean, I could have become yet another chubby, white, middle aged, guy trussed up in a suit that lives to work because money is the goal in life perhaps joking with Facebook friends how they could buy me some expensive townhouse for my next birthday.

@46 No, that was not the entirety of your insults to Skip. You made the following vicious comment:

YB: “Skip, you are over 25 and probably in your mid-30s and live in a group house. I wonder if your parents cry themselves to sleep every night wondering if you will ever grow up and not be a loser.”

To which Skip corrected you by stating: “My father is inordinately proud of me for following my dream.”

But you seem to think you know Skip's parents but most likely are projecting your own relationship with your parents and said:

YB “If you think your parents are proud of a 30+ y/o living in a group house and still in school you're wrong.
They're lying to you and crying themselves to sleep every night.”

You have huge issues you project all over this message board. In your last post you stated:

“I can't imagine who'd think a 30+yo still in school living in a group house is successful.
Most people would think its creepy.
And the rest would think he's a loser.”

Completely failing to understand that Skip in not STILL in school but had the courage to change direction in life and retrain. Huge respect to Skip as most people would be too afraid to make the sacrifices involved in doing that - including shared housing.

You, on the other hand claim to like work but wasted five whole years of your life dossing with '5 or 6 staff', you claim. Really? What on earth would one grown-up man need with '5 or 6 staff waiting on him? Lazy much.

Skip has told us how proud his father is of him but we haven't heard your parents are proud of their lazy son wasting away the best years of his life.

What is your obsession with property? Is that your benchmark for success? Living alone in a big house?

Clearly you read through the whole thread. I am sorry you don't have good reading comprehension.

    My Staff in Argentina:
    Maid
    Cook
    Driver
    Gardener
    Intern

All very much needed and easily affordable.
I've never in my life cleaned my own house. The driver was mainly for protection. I had 25 hectares/pool/tennis courts so too much for me to handle. Cook...obvious and Intern so I didn't have to stand it lines to pay bills and do errands.
You must know how everything in Argentina or any 3rd world country takes 10X longer to do anything than it does in the UK or USA. Why if I had the $ would I spend my time doing crap I don't like?

Yes STILL in school at 30 something and not shared like he has a roommate, no he's got multiple roommates in a group house.
Instead of arguing with me and looking like a fool. go on USA Craigslist, look at apt/room shared and see how many group houses would take someone in their late 20 or 30s. You're not going to find many if you can find any at all.

Elaine, I don't know why you think taking an extended vacation is not enviable?
When people ask about my life they're very interested and nobody thinks its something to be ashamed of, most people are envious.

Intern - Hahahaha. You mean errand boy.

'I don't know why you think taking an extended vacation is not enviable?' Of course you don't Mr. Bragger. Nothing about you is enviable though you crave it so much. Five wasted years.

Anyone else notice that Mr. Chronic has gone to ground and is staying there, ever since he was called out by Derke Blake?

Mr Derke Blake announced he will be at O'Hare today and would gladly accept a lift and a meeting with his Chicago host as so generously and ostentatiously offered to a complete stranger by Mr Chronic.

'Chronically' in Mr. YB's shadow until just very recently, but where is he to be found now?

This forum seems to be a place for people to have serious personal arguments. The 'I am' losers and braggers are under sniper fire constantly. You need to be careful in case you overstress them and they burst a blood vessel. Whilst not doubting the justice of this treatment I am sure their carers will take a dim view of it and no doubt wheel them off to the TV room.

    From a smart redneck:

    Saturday Night Special

Two feet they come a creepin'
    Like a black cat do
And two bodies are layin' naked
A creeper thinks he got nothin' to lose
So he creeps into the house, yeah
    And he unlocks the door
And as a man's reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of .38 holes

    Mr Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
    Ain't good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

    Big Jim's been drinkin' whiskey
And playin' poker on a losin' night
And pretty soon ol' Jim start's a thinkin'
    Somebody been cheatin' and lyin'
So Big Jim commence to fightin'
I wouldn't tell you no lie
Big Jim done pulled his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes

    Mr Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
    Ain't good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

Oh, it's the Saturday night special, for twenty dollars you can buy one too

Hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
    You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come 'round here
Wanna shoot either you or me

    Mr Saturday night special
You got a barrel that's blue and cool
    You ain't good for nothin'
But put a man six feet in a hole

    Mr the Saturday night special
And I'd like to tell you what you could do with it
And that's the end of the song

Frankly there's too many good articles to even reference here.
Just use google news and ”white blue collar polling' as the search term
Its the reason the Dems are in panic mode.

They won the last election because they had historically high turn out of various and sundry dregs of society voting for the first minority Prez. I can't imagine that will happen again.
Plus what scares the Dems even more is Trump is polling well with 20% of their base, good with blacks and good with latinos. They can't will with just the trans vote.

The GOP has very little chance of gaining the presidency - especially, as seems possible, they elect Trump as the candidate. But the last consecutive two-term presidents from the same party were James Madison and James Monroe. The only way for the Democratic Party to avoid a one term presidency is for them to elect Sanders as the candidate.

If “chronic” were not instigating confrontation and making caustic remarks, specifically representing them as the US point of view, then it would not concern me.

However, as the object of such unwarranted 'anti-Canadian' trolling attacks that seem so out of character for Americans, I wonder if he is lying, or what his motivation is.
The use of “piker” is archaic and unheard of in America.

The bragging that he can prove he is American, while insulting all those who are not, and then backing down, leads me to think he is a liar and his opinions as a real American, are worthless.

It would be like Hepatia claiming to be an Islander and dissing Rex Hunt, and then offering to meet ElaineB at the pier in Stanley.

Unfortunately, he has not managed to drag us out of the mess left by Bush when he trashed the Middle East. But who could have done that? Certainly not McCain (and Sarah Palin!) or Clinton.
