The British group, the Rolling Stones must be a huge sell out in Argentina and SA.

Already, the van carrying just the proceeds of the drinks at the Arg. concert was ambushed and the two occupants shot. One died.

    There has been one arrest.

The Stones have had to beef up their already formidable security.

@10 “It is believed the band, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts, have taken no chances with their safety while in the dangerous region......”

    Dangerous region !

Other reports - that the bag guys didn't get any loot.

Local media describe attackers in three or four vehicles as “commandos”

“Un hombre fue asesinado ayer por la madrugada de un balazo cuando un grupo comando interceptó el vehículo en la autopista Buenos Aires-La Plata, en el que llevaba la recaudación obtenida por la venta de gaseosas del último recital de los Rolling Stones....”

For a British band to play anywhere in SA its very difficult to make enough money to make it financially worthwhile. Thats why the Stones are doing several gigs in the same place. They have a big crew, big rig, lots of airfares, hotels, security etc. Its an act of kindness to appear there at all.

@13 “And still they get robbed”

I believe that Argentistan is still the Robbery Capital of the Western Hemisphere. If it isn't, maybe Tink can tell us who is.

It's likely the Argentistanis will tell you they also they invented gravity, serial default, and spoons.

@12 I noticed the scalpers were selling Stones tickets for between 3000 and 8000 pesos, about US$200 to US$500. No idea how much of that is scalper overhead and how much goes to the performers.

The media here were reporting that due to concerns for the characteristically untoward Orc-like behaviour of the natives here, the band members went to Macri's reception in separate cars and with seriously armed protection.

The artists wont get a penny more from scalped tickets. But knowing Mick they are not doing this for washers, they will be getting serious loot. The Stones can afford the very best with their own plane etc, but for lesser bands its often a hard life. SA just doesnt pay enough for the vast majority of British artists to travel there and many of tbe bigger names wont anyway. Festivals and big gigs are the main income stream these days because of copyrighted music theft.

@15 Reasons for not wishing to perform in Argentina were made very obvious in the news that workers carrying the soft-drink sales proceeds are likely to be murdered, and band members have to travel in convoys with guards armed with automatic weapons. That is the reality of Buenos Aires today. The Mogadishu of the Western Hemisphere.
