Falkland Islands provided twenty five Argentine nationals with humanitarian aid (food, warmth and shelter) following the announcement of a week long delay to their return flight to Chile. The group was made up of marathon runners and associates who came to the Islands on March 19 and participated in the Sunday Standard Chartered bank Stanley Marathon. The competition was won by Argentine athlete Rafael Lencina in record time. Read full article

These comments seem to be sincere and should be accepted as such. Although, of course, there is no apology for the events of 1982 and the continuing nonsensical claims of sovereignty. But it is a start - there is still a long way to go!

nonsensical?? How so? given that Argentina clearly has no historical grounds whatsoever for a claim to ruke, possess etc...the Falkland Islands nor have any argentinian inhabitatants ever lived there....
If anything is nonsensical surely it is the continuing peculiar attempts by some Argentinians to have some kind of

Are you suffering from an excess of alcohol last night?

Please read my comments when you have recovered - you SHOULD then clearly see that my sympathies do NOT lie with Argentina!

What did their spokesman mean when he said that they(the Argentines)also

Was there a white flag at the finish line?

Argies seem to love white flags.

Nice letter but can we believe the sincerity? No, I didn't think so.

If Macri and his Malevolent Midget visited the islands and renounced all claims to them for the nonsense they are, then that would be a different matter. Never going to happen though!

I am still unclear why the Falklanders let tourist into the Islands without someone guaranteeing their stay or proving ample funds to cover any unforeseen problems.

They need to beef up their tourist visa standards.

There's no reason to have poor tourists.
    No reason at all.

    At 6.
Nail, hammer, head. His is some RG malvanista weasel looking for some publicity. The islanders did the right thing though.

The pair who wrote the letter are clearly mentally deranged, and fit the 'hostile stalker' profile recently highlighted by the PN editor.

”What did their spokesman mean when he said that they(the Argentines)also

Perhaps they would rather be Falkland Islanders having seen the real islanders which must differ from the Malvinazi indoctrination programme.? Did they eat any Diddle Dee berries?

Looks like a letter designed to not offend anyone. However, it seemed to focus on the political issues overshadowing relations, rather than a straightforward, “ thanks for your generous hospitality”.

That being said - IMO it should be taken at face value, rather than trying to read negative connotations into it.

2)“ Knowing this land that has so much meaning for our country”
There is the red flag. Clearly they want to get familiar with us and the land because they have always wanted it.
Ok they make have won a few sympathisers on the Islands over but the vast majority of us will never truly trust them again.
Yes in time younger generations will come along and the mistrust we have today will likely seem less but these generations must be made aware through their education that Argentina has a very long history of corruption, deceit, and willing to dispose of anyone who gets in there way.
If you let them in as friends then you are going to open a big can of worms that one day will eat you.
By all means be nice to them but never give them anything else because the moment you do they will multiply their effort and before you know it you have lost everything. Learn from those that had those near misses in the 1070's .
Today we have a Country that is envied by many all over the world because we have been honest fair , good to our many visitors and we have some of if not the best wild life scenery in the south Atlantic .
That is what makes it so worth being a Falkland Islander.

Again, - You are bang on.
This is exactly the same process that the WM establishment is using to try to maintain the strangle hold on Scotland.

Kelpers talking about mistrust and stealing! nice! remember how the english empire stole ALL our gold reserves when we deposited them on an english bank, then said we owed them money for the deposit and menaced to give us war if we didn´t pay? Or the Baring Brothers scam?

Or maybe we can talk about how england came to be: though piracy, murder, opium trade, aboriginal genocide and slavery. Or we can talk about more modern things, like secret services assasinations, the siege on the Wikileaks heroes, the bombing of innocent populations on the middle east, the eviction of Diego García aboriginals...

Oh boy, talk me about mistrust... you english have a prontuary that would make Hitler blush.

I'm very impressed by the success of this international sporting venture. After 34 years some admirable and brave people on both 'sides' have put old hatreds and prejudices to one side and met in friendly competition. When things went wrong for some, others offered their new friends shelter and hospitality, and the visitors expressed their generous thanks in an elegant and moving letter. This is a victory of ordinary humanity over prejudice and hatred and after 34 years is long overdue. Let's follow the runners, both visitors and residents, to a beautiful finishing line of peace, mutual respect and friendship.

“ Or the Baring Brothers scam?” Which scam was this one? The one committed by Rosas, of course?

You guys! Why are you raising all these other issues to disagree about when this story celebrates mutual respect and friendship through sport?
