On 28 April, the British Ambassador’s Residence in Buenos Aires welcomed more than 400 people to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The last time that Buenos Aires held a celebration like this was in 2009 and it was an opportunity to praise the resumption of bilateral ties.
Before the traditional toast, the British Ambassador, John Freeman, said that “this event is also a celebration of the renewed and revitalized bilateral relationship between the Argentine and British governments.
Ambassador Freeman said UK want a return to the historic friendship relation with Argentina , and it's time for damage repair in clear reference, without mentioning them, to the tense situation under the previous administrations of Nestor and Cristina Kirchner.
He added that the meeting of president Mauricio Macri with UK Prime Minister David Cameron in Davos during the World Economic Forum is proof of the wide ranging links that UK and Argentina can retake.
However ambassador Freeman cautioned that this re-launching process will take time, underlining that we need to have patience, but it is very good news that the process is already on the move”.
Finally according to Argentine reports, there was praise for the resumption of trade, economic and political ties, but there was no mention to the Falklands' question.
Following the brief speech, the Argentine-British Community Council’s choir performed the national anthems of Argentina and the United Kingdom.

May 06th, 2016 - 09:57 am 0It is a wonderful country and it is a huge shame that our two nations, that share so much, are separated by one thorny issue. I have never met an educated Brit who has been to Argentina and does not like the country. And I have never met an educated Argentine who is not to some degree or other an Anglophile.
