Argentina describes Falklands' governor speech on links as 'positive', but they must be bilateral through UK

Argentina believes there is an opportunity to improve the relation with the Falkland Islanders, and 'we are exploring available options', but those links must be channeled through bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, since the Islands dispute is with the UK. Read full article

No doubt the logical way for initial contacts to start as that is the correct route as UK does have responsibility for our Foreign Policy.
But dear lady- once those initial contacts made- if there are to be any co-ordination in areas such as regional fisheries etc- Very Simple- Your Fisheries people- will be talking to Our Fisheries people - or nobody will be talking.
Somewhere along the line -at an early stage- Arg has to recognize we actually exist with a Govt to talk to in the Islands about regional affairs - or nothing will progress - ball firmly in their court.

Those differences mentioned above by Argentina, aren't just bilaterally contained; they are firmly fixed in the UN's recent comments concerning freedom to choose. And that includes the Falklands.

Do we say “poor argieland” or “poor Malcorra”? Perhaps, if she hasn't read the statements of the Falklands Governor, she's also missed the statement of the UN Secretary General. The SG made it quite clear that self-government of the NSGTs can only come about through “the freely expressed will and desire of those peoples”. No room for misunderstanding is there? There will be NO argie province that includes the Falkland Islands. One wonders about the mindset that insists on discussions with the UK. Britain could adopt one of two responses. The first would be to tell the argies they'd have to wait while London consulted Stanley. The second would be to simply tell the argies to contact Stanley.

The nincompoop who has appeared recently spouting the same drivel as years ago, doesn't seem to understand the first thing about the geopolitical situation. Britain will NOT step back or abandon the Falkland Islands. For the time being, Britain has re-designed its armed forces to an expeditionary model. Perfect for an “expedition” to the Falkland Islands. The “Task Force” of 1982 might well be replaced by the Task Air Fleet. The RAF now possesses up to 14 RAF Voyager aircraft. Each is capable of reaching the Falkland Islands without landing. Each can carry both troops and aviation fuel for airborne refueling. One can imagine each aircraft leaving Britain with troops from 16 Air Assault Brigade and fuel for the accompanying Typhoon combat aircraft aboard. The RAF also has C-17 Globemaster III strategic airlift aircraft. By contrast with the '82 Task Force, a current Task Air Fleet could reach the Falklands in less than a day.

Perhaps Malcorra & co could find their way into the 21st century!

Maybe a good idea for Ms Malcorra to actually read the Governors statements first, if she can possibly spare the time of course. That way she can advoid any embarrasing errors such as with recent UN announcements concerning Argentine territorial waters. It might also demonstrate comon courtesy.

She might also want to run her eyes over Ban Ki Moon's recent statements to keep up with events as well !

The problem is not Argentina, the problems is UN that don t give to Falk Is , a self determination status. When UN give recognize Fk Isl as an independent country & and it means to belong to UK or choise what ever you want this discussion will be over .

This is a good opportunity to close diffrences, The majority of arg thinks in other problems that we must solve.

Macri & Malcorra, is not like CKF & Timmerman taliban s couple and malcorra wants to be UN General Secretary ,

Again , in my opinion the UN is an anachronic organization responsable of this situation . IN XXI CENTURY EVERYBODY SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOISE THE FLAG UNDER WANT TO BEEN GOVERNED , FALK IS , PALESTINA OR CATALUÑA

Tell us the reason that you apparently loathe the Falkland islanders.
The fact that you think your tax money is supporting them is not a valid answer...there must be something deeper
Have they done something personally to you to incur your venom. Have you any personal dealing with Argentina that makes you beholding to them.

I'm just curious that you seem to take an opposite opinion to the bulk of the British population.

13Chris, Actually the Gov would not have said what he did had it not been approved by our MLAs. They are FIGovt - and their position is that we would respond- cautiously- to an opening shift in approach by the new Arg Govt- but they would have to be talking to us once initial contacts made - otherwise it goes nowhere! Opening ball is in their court. Think you will find FCO backs that position as well.

If the Islands are self governing then chubby cheeks Malcorra will have to talk to the Islanders to get their approval to talk to the UK . Does any other self governing country have to talk to Argentina via someone else ? Do they talk to Luxembourg as a nation or do they talk to Belgium about it ? Which bit of 'Self governing ' does she not understand. Firstly, she needs a history lesson from an Islander, which would save her years of wasted time. Is she that bright, probably not !

    17 Supremo-what?
Malvinas Argentinas you say? Do please explain? - in 12 days time we celebrate 34 years since your military were thrown out of here after their brief 74 day invasion - do tell us -WHAT have you achieved since then in your aim of retaking the Islands?

Can I give you a clue - in English it is spelt sweet f*** all!

In 1982 our annual budget was £4 million and our economy was going down, just based on a faltering agriculture, and population below 2000 and young people leaving.

in 2016 our annual budget is £60million (and 4 years budget spend in reserves)
Good strong economy based on agriculture-fisheries-tourism and population 3000 plus and young people wanting to return after university etc.

Yup - in 1982 Britain helped us kick your arses- and since then we have got off ours and gone ahead.

    How has your nation done?

#20: the possibility of retaking the islands by force is non existant. Following logic, your nation, the UK, is one of the most powerfull nation in the world. Argentina is not. But the fact the UK is stronger does not mean they are nice, or correct or right or a developed society. They still makes wars for natural resources, for exploitation, they are still accused by the UN as a colonial power. They still have corruption cases, officials snorting cocaine, or having sex with pigs or using torture to foreign suspects of terrorism without the most basic human right.

So that macho thing that “we mantain the islands by force and you will never get it” its very inmature and stupid.

Your economic grow started with a unilateral military exclusion zone and the sell of fishing licences in a disputed sea.

In 1982, the UK did not helped you Becouse you, as the rest of islanders, are british citizens and its logic that the British militaries will defend its own nationals. Ergo if you are british you are part of the UK.

Now you guys consider that Argentina should talk to the Malvina's government and not to the UK but at the same time “legally” for you, the UK is the responsible for all your foreign relations. So, if according to your “laws” the uk is responsible for the islands foreign relations we are following those “laws” by talking to the UK and not to the “government” in Malvinas. Now i dont see the problem here, Argentina talks to the UK, then they talk to you, then you talk to the UK, and then the UK talk to Argentina. And everybody is happy. What else do you want?.

I think I'll confound my critics by devoting this letter not to describing coprophagous fomenters of revolution in general but V0ice in particular. Unlike V0ice's dysfunctional artifices, what I'm about to write is supported in scientific scholarship by overwhelming evidence. For instance, when you tell V0ice's comrades that V0ice aims at nothing less than the complete overthrow of capitalism, representational government, and democracy, they begin to get fidgety and their eyes begin to wander. They really don't care. They have no interest in hearing that we've all heard his pontifical pronouncement that pauperism is a beautiful entelechy that makes us whole. Obviously, that conclusion is based on unconfirmed gossip, questionably-sourced reports, and blatant speculation, but it's also the case that V0ice wants you to believe that his vices are the only true virtues. You should be wary of such claims. Be aware! Be skeptical! Think! Do not be diverted, deceived, or mesmerized by V0ice's hubristic jibes.

If V0ice doesn't see anything wrong with leaving behind a legacy of perpetual indebtedness in developing countries then perhaps he doesn't deserve all the support he's getting from us. If you were to ask his devotees about his attempts to replace Robert's Rules of Order with “facilitated consensus building” at all important meetings, you would notice the hesitation in their answers. It turns out that they too are concerned that it's unmistakably astounding that V0ice has found a way to work the words “plethysmographically” and “hyperconscientiousness” into his obloquies. However, you may find it even more astounding that he maintains that he's a tribune of the oppressed. This is a complete fabrication without a scintilla of truth in it. What's more, I do not propose a supernatural solution to the problems we're having with V0ice. Instead, I propose a practical, realistic, down-to-earth approach that requires only that I tend to the casualties of his war on sanity. That

22- Do give me examples in the last 116 years say when the UK has made a war for its gain?

Do list the accusations made by the UN(Gen Assembly or Sec.Council) that UK is a Colonial Power - holding people in those territories British against their will?

Do please deny that Argentina is 100% free from Corruption? No nation is - but some like UK are a LOT less corrupt than Argentina is!

Our economy started to grow when your nation LOST all credibility having used armed violent force to try and take over a people and their homeland against their democratic wish. Remember not even USSR or Chinas would support you in the UN in 1982!
We became free of the worry and threat of takeover by a foreign power.
No- as a 5th generation born Islander in 1982 I was British Overseas Citizen- I did NOT have the right to live in the UK- I was not a British national.
Yes UK has change of our Foreign Telations - so that is where the first approaches happen. Then - and UK hace and remains very very clear- if there are any Govt type talks- then as the govt involved we will be sitting at the table and talking!
Get it then down to basic things like say offshore fisheries - this affects ONLY Argentina and Falklands - UK does NOT fish in this area!So the 2 departments talking to each other will be the Arg Fisheries Dept and the Falkland Is Fisheries Dept - exactly the same as they used to pre Kirscheners.
Supposing you want AA to fly here- fat lot of use talking to UK Govt and UK civil aviation as f*** all to do with them! AA and others would have to talk to Falkland Islands Govt Dept of Civil Aviation. Not that we would ever want AA to fly in anyway - but you see where it goes if Arg wants to improve relations - it has to talk to US.
Same with Environmental issues- etc - etc - so if there is to be any raprochment- it will mean direct communications - get used to it - or have none.

    Your Choice.

This is hardly an ersatz sideshow. It is instead a matter of Voice, V0ice, Vestige, Think et al, sock-puppeteer and impersonator extraordinaire not bothering to listen, not taking seriously the foundational work being done to reveal the nature and activity of his lickspittles and expose their inner contexts as well as their ultimate final aims. If he were listening, he would find that he yields to the mammalian desire to assert individuality by attracting attention. Unfortunately, for him, “attracting attention” usually implies, “blitzing media outlets with faxes and newsletters that highlight the good points of his louche plaints”. If I was unable to convince you that Voice, V0ice, Vestige, Think et al, sock-puppeteer and impersonator extraordinaire's sole purpose in life seems to be to force law abiding citizens to live by restrictive standards, then you should definitely consider contacting me with your supporting or refuting evidence, opinions, personal stories, etc., so that I can make a better argument in my next post.

    30 Fake Terrence Hill
Despite total incompetence, Fake Terrence Hill is often afflicted with an amazing conceit that causes him to fool himself into believing that some people deserve to feel safe while others do not. Strange, isn't it, how the worst types of disrespectful ingrates there are are always the first to weave his two-faced traits, addlepated ballyhoos, and misguided histrionics into a rich tapestry that is sure to convince people that their peers are already riding the Fake Terrence Hill bandwagon and will think ill of them if they don't climb aboard, too? Our top priority in the upcoming weeks must be to get him to damp down the bellicosity of his execrations. Look, of course that's going to be tough. Anybody who tells you it's going to be easy or that one can wave a magic wand and make it happen hasn't been paying attention to how Fake Terrence Hill operates. Nevertheless, Fake Terrence Hill uses legal-sounding terminology and so on—to create the impression that there is a rational base for his claim that individual worth is defined by race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. It follows from this that Fake Terry has the nerve to call those of us who expose some of his negligent deeds “conspiracy theorists”. No, we're “conspiracy revealers” because we reveal that no man who values himself, who has any regard for sound morality, or who feels any desire to see intellectual progress made certain, can rightfully join Fake Terrence Hill's snotty attempt to paint people of different races and cultures as sick alien forces undermining the coherent national will.

    @31 Arg Scouser.
“The UN does not recognize” the right.”

It does. In 2008, a motion by Spain and Argentina to assert that self determination cannot apply to NSGTswhere a sovereignty dispute exists was defeated.
Please try to leave your 19th century idyl and join the 21st century.

If you dispute this, perhaps you could refer to a UN statement by the General Assembly, that backs up what you say?

“ the only ones who can negotiate, for the UN, are Britain and Argentina. Only two countries, not the islanders can speak as litigants.”

According to the Frank's Report (1983), Falkland Islanders were present at talks between the UK and Argentina, pre 1982.
However, you are likely to find that if that is the only route of talks, then the UK will consult the Islanders and present their case to Argentina.

So you are still stuffed aren't you?

If you ignore the people who were born and live on the Islands, the UK will ignore Argentina.

And that leaves you exactly where?
