Jun 29th, 2016 - 12:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If the Olympic Organizing Committee - like any other committee/association - is also corrupt; the events will be nothing but a farce - an insult to the sports & athleticism and a burden on the host countries.
Jun 29th, 2016 - 01:10 pm - Link - Report abuse 0By the way; which countries have really benefitted financially [or otherwise] by hosting such international events? Hardly any - if I'm right.

Jun 29th, 2016 - 02:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0London probably did well on that scale but the Olympics has become just a vanity project with IOC officials being licked as they travel around the world.
Probably London 1948 too - we shoved everyone into wooden sheds then.
Rio was selected because Lula paid the bribes and even though they know they should have changed venue to some other place with the infrastructure in place to properly handle an Olympics they couldn't becuase all hell would break loose when the Olympic Comittee had to give their bribe money back.

Skip, Brazil's infrastructure cannot be compared to Australia's....What the PT (read Lula) wanted was just another opportunity to invest heavily in an inadequate and deteriorated infrastructure in order to reap their profits...
Like any other noble project/cause [which is supposed to benefit the masses]; Olympics too is for filling the pockets of the concerned authorities.
