    “our claim will never change”

    Agreed. That's why it will always remain a claim and nothing more.

    Britain's resolve will NOT change despite a new Prime Minister, no-one would dare go against the will of the British population.

    Perhaps if Macri gets a second term he might do the unthinkable and give up the mythical Malvinas rouse?

    This is what he said in '97

    The ambassador in London recalled that back in 1997, Macri was interviewed on the issue and his reply surprised everybody. He minimized the claim and stated, “I never quite understood the sovereignty claims of such as big country as ours. We don't have a space problem such as Israel, for example”.
    But apparently he did not stop there: in effect as a pro-business man and faithful to orthodox economics, the heir of an industrial and real estate conglomerate added, “as far as I know it costs quite a bit to the English Treasury to keep the Malvinas Islands” so if they are recovered for Argentina, “Malvinas will become an additional deficit for the country's accounts”.

    Macri should take note of the UK referendum on Brexit. If any future PM tried to hand over sovereignty the press would whip up a campaign against it AND the British people would respond. There would be a clamour for a referendum and the vast bulk of the UK population would respond with “get stuffed” to Argentina.

    Noted that Macri made no reference at all to us - the people who actually live here- same old worn squeaky Argentine record - same old diretribe- same old claim - no doubt the Argentine President in 2116 will be spouting the same old stuff.

    @ 5 Islander1

    You are of course assuming Argentina will still exist then.

    Given the chance that Macri had to start mending fences with the islanders, even if it just meant keeping his mouth shut until he could mention dropping their 'claim', he has turned out just like the rest of his predecessors.

    What-a-mistaker-to-maker!

    “English Prime Minister” ?

    Doesn't he mean UK Prime Minister? If he doesn't know the difference then maybe he should go to night-school or something and learn a little about the UK. (cue Argy troll of one sort or another to say 'he won't be the PM of the UK for much longer' or something along those lines)

    And as @5 Islander says he made no reference to the FI's at all.

    It is the height of arrogance and downright offensiveness not to make any reference to the only people who really count i.e. the islanders themselves

    @8: No one “voted to remain under British rule”, pal. We voted to remain British, which is not the same thing, as well you know. Don't use MP to qualify your quotes, you know they aren't very good at grammar, spelling and all that good stuff. We actually voted to remain a British Overseas Territory.

    @8. Sorry. I didn't notice you there until FitzRoy drew your drivel to my attention. Incidentally, that's more or less the position of your “country”. Insignificant.

    In 2013, the question of the ballot paper was “Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom?”

    Fairly clear, isn't it? The word “rule” doesn't appear. But then the concepts of “honesty” and “truth” don't appear in the world pictures of your country, your compatriots or you, do they?

    So what's he saying ? that Argentina will never go to the ICJ, but just keep on claiming the FI ? makes sense, especially because he knows all too well that if they do, they'll lose.

    It is expected a more aggressive policy on the matter for things to change. Closer ties with the European Union, especially Spain (Gibraltar), Lobby with USA, also an economic blockade of the islands with South america and more measures like this... http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1915627-la-argentina-manifesto-su-interes-por-fabricar-cazas-supersonicos-con-brasil. If the threat is not real will never be negotiation and at this time of political weakness of the UK, Argentina has to seize the opportunity.

    It is a sad reality that Argentina as it is today may not be the Argentina of tomorrow. Patagonia is like Catalonia in that they want independence from Argentina. I think that the Patagonians should have a referendum just like the FALKLANDERS to see what they prefer.

    “Brexit or not, our claim will never change,”

    What has Brexit got to do with their phony sovereignty claim?

    These Muppets are so excitable; it seems that, in their deluded minds, they are capable of linking any news or event with their colonial ambitions in the Falklands/South Atlantic. Just shows how naked the claim and how desperate they are to give the impression of progress.

    Macri will be off to visit the Pope soon.

    In respect of the Gripen, the UK has embargoed any UK technology being transferred to Argentina.

    Argentina would be playing with fire if it adopted this course.
    With all the uncertainty following Brexit and Argentina becoming belligerent the UK public may just be in the mood to go and kick a dog....Argentina may well fulfill this role. It may not be to the UK's political advantage but once emotions take over nobody cares a damn...it would feel good.

    Not really. We understand it all too well.......the FI issue will always be part of Presidential election campaigns, presidential policy etc.....If they don't keep on plugging that ridiculous idea - in the attempt to unite the Argies against a common, inexistent enemy, and draw public attention away from their own miserable failures - what will be left for them to do ?
    An unlikely option would be to try to govern seriously, to pull the Argies out of the sh*t that the K's put them in.

    @22 darragh
    You might have a point there ; starts with the name, trying to pass off the idea that he is the eternal victim of the US & Europe ; Vietnam also displays the same type of incorrect English that the Brasshole did - typical of a Brazilian trying to translate literally from Portuguese - besides the fact that he cannot disguise the same radical, impracticable ideas and nonsensical rhetoric.

    @ 16 “..... under that shadow...”

    Speaking of shadows......while Argentina is under the shadow of the rock it still lives under, cut off from advanced Western military hardware, we note that Chile has more than 50 modernised multi-role F-16 fighters and was recently approved to purchase the comparatively new US vertical launch system and the new Sea-Sparrow surface to air missiles for its ships.

    Argentine threats are as empty as its coffers. All hat and no cattle.

    “English Prime Minister” ?

    Exactly-they can't even get this right and this extrapolates to why Argentina can't run their country properly-no attention to detail.

    @8
    “Well said “ I will vote to remain under British rule ”

    Try learning the art of 'attention to detail' The Falkland Islanders voted to remain a BOT which means they are RULED by the FIG with the UK to protect that right to govern themselves-so if there are any talks between Argentina and the UK as with PRE-1982 talks, FIG elected members must be present.
    otherwise, no talks.

    @9
    ”And Spain thinks it can jointly rule Gibraltar now“

    Whilst ignoring Catalonia creeping up behind them ready to pounce-typical Latin mentality.

    @15
    ”Lobby with USA“

    That's assuming Trump doesn't get in.

    @15

    ”If the threat is not real will never be negotiation”

    Dream on. The Grippen is nothing without British parts, remember,British Aerospace helped to develop the Grippen. Unless you want a deck chair with strapped on fireworks to become its ejection seat. If you think a few Grippens will be able to get past Typhoons and ground to air missiles (that's assuming T45s won't show up). then I don't think anyone will be employing you to run any armed force, unless it's to dish out the white flags, And once the F35 is well in service you could take out MPA runway and still lose.

    “It is expected a more aggressive policy on the matter for things to change”

    The more aggressive you get, the more aggressive the response from us (do you not understand anything about British psychology?)which as 1982 demonstrates means you will lose if you try the aggression gig again.

    @27
    Patagonia will not be Argentine in 25 years with Ushuaia returned to the UK in that time. Suck it up.

    @16

    “ Sorry, but you got to get used to live under that shadow--it's going to last.”

    Its not a shadow it's a joke because this claim has resulted in an absolute ZERO result for Argentina in case you haven't noticed.

    The Falkland's will always be British,
    for frack sake, be a man, either back it up , take it to the ICJ or hide under the UN skirt of sham ability,

    about time Argentine grows up,

    Still it does not help when we have British money helping them , British do gooders who want to be friends at any price,
    and it helps not, when the British are still lead by Donkeys acting like asses.

    You are right, Argentina does need to grow up. If the Falkland Islands were situated somewhere else (away from Argentina) the right to exist and independence of the Islanders would be a given and their larger, more powerful neighbours would be happy to trade and cooperate with them.

    No other nation on this earth would turn being a permanent loser into an art form like Argentina does.

    I have no ill will for the islanders. My observation at #16 only concerned those who pestered about the Kirchnerist governments and greeted Macri, who they saw as a better option for them. They now know an Argentine neo-con president is no better for them.

    Reekie, you do have a great deal of trouble understanding these things. The comments should be understood to be an observation that Argentina is so very much behind in so very many ways. But more importantly, as it relates to this thread, Chile has earned the confidence of the civilised Western nations, while Argentina has acted and continues to act only to reinforce their distrust, which is why Argentina continues to be denied access to modern Western technologies, military and otherwise.

    The above link appears in several Latin American newspapers today. I fear the Pope is referring to the Falkland Islands. After all, he is an argentino!

    His reference to “colonizaciones” means, I think, the British Overseas Territory of the Falkland Islands.

    I ran that through a translator and got this:

    “Pope Francis sent an affectionate greeting to the Argentines on the occasion of the bicentenary of the independence of his country and prayed for the Lord Advocate to Argentina ”of all types of colonization“.

    ”I hope that this celebration makes us stronger on the path undertaken by our elders two hundred years ago. With such omens express all Argentines my closeness and security of my prayer“, he wrote in a message to the President of the Confederation Episcopal Argentina, Monsignor José Arancedo.

    In his letter, the Argentine Pope speaks of love for the ”motherland“, appointment to two heroes who fought for independence in the continent, Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín, and asks the Lord to defend his country ”of all types of colonization“.

    ”By that homeland large also pray today in our celebration: that the Lord the care, it make strong, more sister and the defend of all type of colonizations“, wrote.

    The bicentennial of Argentine independence was celebrated yesterday and celebrated two hundred years of the historic Declaration of independence from Spain.

    ”In particular, I want to be close to those who suffer most: the sick, those who live in poverty, prisoners, those who feel lonely, those who have no work and pass all kinds of need, those who are or were victims of human trafficking, human trading and exploitation of people, child victims of abuse, and so many young who suffer the scourge of drugs“ , stressed.

    ”With these two hundred years of back is us requests follow walking, look towards forward”, acknowledged after mentioning the role of them elderly and them young. (I)”

    I think that the Pope is talking in the context of Argentina’s struggle for Independence from Spain, if he had meant the Falklands, he would have said so.

    The Holy Father has to be very careful - he cannot be seen to openly criticise the perceived “colonización” of the Falklands archipelago by “England”(as the malvinistsas claim). But, the recipients of his greeting will understand exactly what he is inferring especially on this date.

    The malvinanazis would try and conflate the discovery of an albino polar bear into their bogus colonial claims. So it probably doesn’t matter what the Pope says or doesn’t say – it will be greeted with great excitement and joy in BA.
