Venezuela announced to fellow Mercosur members that for the rest of the year it was the new chair of the group, following on the expiration of Uruguay's six month mandate on Saturday, 30 July. Venezuela cannot possibly hold the chair of Mercosur, as the day before yesterday I annouced that I hold the chair of Mercosur - Maduro's little bird must be intoxicated.

Mercosur is finally hoisted by its own petard.

Venezuela was brought on by Mercosur member states promoting the “Bolivarian revolution” in 2012, under dubious circumstances. Paraguay was suspended at the time.

Now, member states object to Venezuela taking the Presidency. Mercosur itself will be suspended from operating, as they will not cooperate with Venezuela.
At best, little Uruguay, already paralyzed by Socialist economic ideology, will continue to cosy up to them, and Argentina will sit on the fence.

Mercosur is for all intents and purposes, dead.
What did they ever achieve anyway?

“The letter had attached a 32/page report on Uruguay's six-month performance.”

    Why send 32 BLANK pages?

“The letter had attached a 32/page report”

So nice of the Uruguayan government to help the others ignite wet wood for asados.

I've got to love the photo of Maduro as shown at the top of this article.

He's demonstrating with his hands the path the Venezuelan economy has performed under his leadership. :)

    Best wishes everyone!

Maduro can think VZ holds whatever he wants, but the fact is that Brazil, Paraguay, and I presume, also Argentina, despite sitting on the fence, which together represent 90% of Mercosul, do dot recognize his little tirade.

Hmmm, if they can't decide who is going to be the next temporary boss cocky, Mercosur is looking a lot like a lot of other groupings and organisations that Argentina is part of - a shambles.

This is the same Mercosur that routinely tries to meddle in the affairs of the Falkland Islands by issuing calls for 'discussions' and 'dialogue' trying to give weight to Argentina's specious claims. Yet it has as much gravitas and clout as beached blue pampa.
