Venezuela rejected Argentina's call for an urgent Mercosur meeting and underlined it is exercising the group's pro tempore presidency “legally” accusing Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay of being part of a Triple Alliance which is re-editing “a sort of Plan Condor against Venezuela to harass and criminalize its model of development and democracy”.

 “The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in full exercise of the pro tempore presidency of Mercosur denounces the machinations of the extreme right in the south of the continent, conformed in a new Triple Alliance, which has been acting with ill intent, appealing to shyster maneuvering trying to obstruct what by Law Venezuela is entitled”, reads the Venezuela release on the controversy.

“It is the Triple Alliance of the right and Plan Condor against 'Bolivarianism' and the socioeconomic conquests of our peoples. Retrograde and neo-conservative forces are attempting to bring back the disastrous neo liberal policies that have subjected the peoples of the South to poverty, misery, inequality, and exclusion of its human rights”, continues the release.

Thus Venezuela rejects a meeting of Mercosur coordinators as proposed by Argentina to try and overcome the differences which surfaced when the country decided to take over the pro tempore presidency responsibility.

”We are concerned how Argentine foreign minister (Susana Malcorra), who pretends to become secretary general of the United Nations, is disrespectful of international treaties“, commented Venezuelan foreign minister Delcy Rodriguez.

In an interview with the Venezuelan government channel news Telesur, Ms Rodriguez added that her Argentine peer was ”expressly ignoring Mercosur and international norms”. She also recalled that Mercosur decisions are made by heads of State and foreign ministers.

    “policies that have subjected the peoples of the South to poverty, misery, inequality, and exclusion of its human rights”

    .....it's hard not to laugh.

    Allowing Venezuela into Mercosur was bound to destroy it. Maybe that was the plan?

    @1 Agreed.

    ”policies that have subjected the peoples of the South to poverty, misery, inequality, and exclusion of its human rights”... Maduro has PERFECTED those policies. No one does it better, or worse I should say.

    Need we say more?

    Best wishes everyone!

    If only Mercosur was finished!

    No more crap from The Dark Country!

    The only downside would be our children who 'rule' us would feel lonely.

    Chubby still has a lot to answer for.
