This letter is actually a threat. In other words, unless Argentina is willing to back off on flights to Uruguay and Chile, and pack in breaking international trade rules over the oil issue, the UK will veto Malcorra's bid to be Secretary General.

How much are you prepared to pay Argentina?

Roger, we can live by not having Malcorra as Secretary General. Second, by UN rules UK should not steal the oil in our sovereign waters, what is correct, and legal, is to await the resolution of the conflict before destroying a limited resource.
The backing off seems ridicolous, but it seems my dumb government will implement it... Falklanders steal our fish, want to steal our oil, invite foreign powers to steal fish too, probe our oceans for oil... And how does our new government react? “The brits are our friends”
    (Insert facepalm here)

@2 “..by UN rules UK should not steal the oil in our sovereign waters......Falklanders steal our fish, want to steal our oil” Are you trying to make out the UN 'rules' state they are Argentinian sovereign waters. Have they really said they are your waters. If they have then what are we arguing about, case closed....but...

Resolutions are non binding, so is it really 'illegal' to carry on a unilateral exploration within the EEZ of a NSGT by it's people......well 1514 says this...'Affirming that peoples may, for their own ends, freely dispose of their natural wealth and resources without prejudice to any obligations arising out of international economic co-operation, based upon the principle of mutual benefit, and international law.....hmmm, so are the Falklands a NSGT or not, seems they are listed as one of the 17 on the UN website.

@2. What “oil in our sovereign waters” is the UK “stealing”? You are aware that the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands were specifically EXCLUDED from the UN statement on argieland's attempt to “claim” half the South Atlantic, aren't you? You are also aware, I'm sure, that those three BRITISH island groups have the same rights to the same extent of territorial waters, contiguous zonal waters and exclusive economic zonal waters as argieland. By the way, fish have been known to do a couple of things like swimming and moving. I wonder if argieland approaches fishing in the same way as spain? Spain now has virtually no fish stocks of its own in commercially viable quantities. A true testament to spanish greed! Incidentally, there are also such things as international waters. Falklanders have every right to fish there if they wish.

As long as Argentina continues to claim the islands, Britain should not have anything to do with them,

all future trade or contact should be on condition that Argentina acknowledges the Falkland's right to exist and drop its false claim,

    just my humble opinion.

Only one thing wrong in your posting viz. they are NOT Argentina's fish, it is NOT Argentina's oil. They are ALL in the Falkland's waters and economic zone.
Just because YOU say that they all belong to Argentina does not make it true.
You have been peddling the same bunch of lies for decades.

I prefer the post @1, it makes more sense if only for the reality that any bilateral talks without the FIG by anybody now in the UK Government is a waste of time.

The Malevolent Midget Malcorra has her own agenda of course, outside that of The Dark Country: she desperately wants the UN job. That isn't going to happen either.

I note the visit of the Liberturd to scouse headquarters was a 'success'!

Depends on your definition of success, it's still floating so the scousers couldn't have robbed the bung out of the bottom. :o)

Good to see matters moving forward.
There will be the usual moaners in Argentina but they have had things their way for far too long.
If they can't be reconciled.....ignore them and forget them.
More evidence of Mrs May's intelligent and pragmatic forward thinking.
Common sense from a UK PM? Takes me back to to the 80's.

@1 I hope Mrs May is not so wet as Cameron, and this letter seems to indicate that she isn't. She knows that the UK has more to offer Argentina than Argentina has to the UK.

    @2Lukedig
“UN rules UK should not steal the oil in our sovereign waters, ”

    @3 James Marshall
”well 1514 says this...'Affirming that peoples may, for their own ends, freely dispose of their natural wealth and resources without prejudice to any obligations arising out of international economic co-operation, based upon the principle of mutual benefit, and international law..

1514 IS a UN rule, Lukedig, what part of that do you not understand?

Also if the UK are, as you say breaking UN rules and stealing Argentine resources, is it a fact that the UN recognises Argentine Sovereignty over the Falklands, because the last time I looked, they hadn't?

The Falkland Islands are not Argentinian.

1/- The history going back TO (not 1833) BUT 1690, does not support Argentina's claim.

2/-The UN supports the Falkland Islander's right to self determination.

3/-If Argentina could prove the above wrong they would have been at the ICJ years ago.

If Argentina claims the Falklands, prove it at the ICJ or cease your bullshit.

“UK should not steal the oil in our sovereign waters, ”

The UK are not running the oil operations. The Falkland. Island. Government. does. Not the UK. the Fishing zone and oil exploration around the Falkland Islands are nothing to do with the UK government.

No wonder your country is in such a bad state when you are in constant denial and cannot face or recognise basic facts.

Written with such conviction and, superficially, that sounds so sensible and of course it must be correct since the “UN Rules” have been invoked.

Do I misunderstand this but when TM says 'third countries in the region' doesn't she mean anybody but Argentina? and by 'the removal of restrictive hydrocarbons measures' she surely means the daft Argentine laws about suing Oil Company execs.

Other than that this letter is just a polite reply to Argentina trying to get the UK on side for the UN Sec Gen job.

Oh Voice, ever heard of coincidence. summer holidays you know, kids to entertain, work, nice Portuguese sun and beaches etc etc and not a lot happening re the Islands over the last few months to comment on.

I know who I am Voice, and so do you, losing a £1000 bet obviously wasn't enough (still haven't paid up yet though Voice, backfired on you there didn't it, that some people tell the truth). Yet, you still insist on your childish and under achieving behaviour.

By the way Urban Design/planning is not Architecture, different discipline I am
afraid. Urban Designers would be the Conductor in the Orchestra, bringing all the individual elements (that make our cities and towns: Landscape, Architecture, Transport, Street Scape, Environment, Public Space etc) together, to form a coherent and legible sense of space, thus becoming a 'Place'.

Normally, people learn not to argue with those who are intellectually and technically better educated in a particular subject, it just makes them look a fool. .

Thankfully you never learn Voice, so we get the chance to make you look a fool 'ad infinitum'

So where has Think been, one could suggest the same of you Voice, both of you leaving few messages over the summer, so do we assume Think and Voice are one.....
I hope your mate Think had a nice time in the 'Big Apple', same old result I see, nada.

    Pathetic.

    architecture

    noun
the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings.

I must say I'm surprised that I'll be designing and constructing buildingd.

However, me 3 years ago unsure which major to do:

Ha, Ha, selected a name, with a consistent back story, that just happens to match (coincidently) with posts I issued using 'Buzzsaw' username before I decided to call you out. Gosh, I must be good to find a person who not only has matching qualifications, work on the same projects (find the posts with 'pottyboy' going on about Architecture and the Pritzker prize from a year or two ago), etc,etc but also moved to Portugal from the UK, now that is coincidence.

You have never caught me out Voice, because I do not lie. Like I said, I have many faults but being wrong isn't one of them.

PS I think you will find those words have been used thousands of times to describe the built environment and its disciplines, just paraphrasing the many people who have used those words in presentations, articles, books and lectures by others and myself included. But then you should know these things, didn't you pretend you worked for an Architect once too...some GIS work or other wasn't it.

Now back to the topic, Argentina need to get better translators and understand british wording and diplomacy.
