Disclaimer & comment rulesIn the series of rescue attempts, Shackleton attempted to get assistance from the Argentines, who of course were neither willing nor capable of doing any such thing. Even Uruguay made a sporting try to get to the shipwrecked crew on Elephant Island but their boat was turned back by pack ice. And it was up to Chilean volunteers to effect the successful rescue.
