BOLIVIA! - you sided with Peru in the 1880s and jointly attacked what you both figured was a very small and weak Chile - but Chile fought back and kicked both your arses - and took a fair chunk of your territory as recompense.

To be fair to the Bolivians, they were quite unlucky. Not only did they lose access to the sea, but the provinces Chile took have valuable copper deposits, as well as saltpetre used in fertiliser, which Chile has been getting rich from ever since.

True. Just look at China; they are always complaining that someone or other has 'hurt the feelings of the Chinese people'. Apparently they have very delicate feelings!
