    Pay UK taxes then...
    Get representation in Parliament....
Allow UK residents the freedom of choice to live in Gibraltar if they wish like any other part of the UK...
Stop treating Gibraltar and other BOTS like some sort of special club....If your names not down you're not coming in...
Stop taking from the UK and giving nothing in return...but trouble....

    Just like Scotland then?

I'd rather have the people of Gibraltar than the headbangers in Glasgow, et al.

Gibraltar is NOT, of course, part of the UK. Unlike spain, the UK doesn't find it necessary to make up new laws and arguments, as spain does, to justify colonialism and illegitimate claims. One wonders about Ceuta and Melilla, and various uninhabited islands off the Moroccan coast that spain has used military force to retain.

What are you blurbing about? I, and many others here DO pay UK tax and get nothing in return, other than £50 million a year (a sum about to be reduced) is paid to Gibraltar to maintain the Royal Navy Dock.

All other Gibraltarians do pay taxes locally, please don't make it sound as if the UK are funding Gibraltar, it's not!

Being part of the UK...should mean being part of the UK and being treated like any other part of the UK...
They don't want it, they want to be a Special case...a private club...
The referendum choice should be integration or out...
That gives them self determination to choose...no one moans about the French OT's, because they are part of France...

The Spanish government believes that self-determination does not apply to Gibraltar because paragraph 6 of UN Resolution 1514  (‘any attempt aimed at the partial or total disruption of the national unity and the territorial integrity of a country is incompatible with the Charter of the United Nations')

This view is pathetically weak: https://www.academia.edu/29347730/Gibraltar_-Territorial_Integrity

Gib is a very handy Naval base at the entrance to the Med. Britain is the rightful owner of the territory and should hang on to it. Spain should stop grumbling, they are the ones causing trouble, not Britain. To claim otherwise is just hyperbole. This business of various Spaniards trying to claim our territory is indeed tiresome but we must stick up for what is right. As someone points out Spain is hanging on to various territories that are clearly in other country's close neighbourhoods. They should shut up and work on their own Club Med problems.
As for the tax and public spending arguments there are much costlier remote places and islands in Britain that recieve massive subsidies from tbe English taxpayer who recognises their need and willingly contributes to make their lives possible. Should be cut them off too?

Gibraltar has been British since the time of the Duke of Marlborough (in excess of three centuries), and is of no real value to Spain. It is useful to the Spanish (as are the Falklands to Argentina) only as a diversion to give the public some focus for their hatred, other than the corrupt, incompetent governments that are ruining their country. If the Spanish government would take care of their own business, and make Spain more attractive than Britain, the people of Gibraltar might want to be a part of Spain (maybe in another three centuries?).

Do you mean like the North of England, Northern Ireland, Wales...?
What is the total population for these areas and what is the total subsidies...?
I'll bet their population is greater than Scotland...their subsidies greater and their tax contribution...less....
    I don't have to bet...because I already know...
I'll also wager Faslane and Coulport is ever so more important to the UK than Gibraltar....

    @Think's Parrot

No, I mean places like the Highlands that have a large costly road network and sparse population and the Islands needing heavily subsidised ferries and rural services. Because Naval bases are in the same general area makes no difference. There are military bases and nuclear installations and facilities all over the UK including in the densly populated South East. We all 'benefit from and suffer' that.

All the OT's are “important”' just as all the parts of the UK are important, regardless.

The elected U.K. government distributes the funds as required, at their discretion.

That is the strength of having territories united, together greater than their component parts. It binds a common culture and common values.

That's something to remember, on this important day, November 11th.

Trolls like Think/Voice are here to undermine the UK, sow doubt, and create division by pitting us against each other.

“Spain was neutral in both World wars...”

Well, sort of. That's the myth, anyway.

Spain actually signed an agreement with Hitler that it would only provisionally remain a non-belligerent and that it would join the Axis at a time to be determined later. That is different than lawful neutrality. Having just ended the Spanish Civil War, Franco was in no position to enter into another major conflict. Formal neutrality would have angered Hitler, who had provided the means for Franco to beat the Russian-backed coalition in Spain. The agreement that Franco reached with Hitler in 1940 allowed Spain to continue to provide a high degree of cooperation with Germany but without the character of being recognised as a belligerent. But that did not make Spain legally neutral, and there was a strong effort on the part of Allied forces to use this lack of neutrality as an argument to invade Spain.

How much does the UK tax payer give to Gibraltar, and how does this compare to the other BOTs?

And which other part of the UK do you want Gibraltar to be treated like anyway? Each country already has slightly different laws, and different degrees of self government.

If it did become part of the UK, it would most likely end up like Ceuta and Melilla; two Spanish autonomous cities that are in a special low tax zone. Or like Svalbard, where the Norwegian government is bound by treaty to only collect taxes for local purposes, and as a result taxes are a good deal lower than in mainland Norway. Or like Heligoland, a part of Germany that enjoys a tax-exempt status, and where much of the economy is founded on sales of cigarettes, alcohol and perfume to tourists.

In other words not much would change, and you and Spain would still be complaining.

Armed Forces minister flags Rock’s ‘massive’ role in troubled times
And he confirmed that the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, would visit Gibraltar perhaps as early as November next year but certainly by Easter of 2018.

“Queen Elizabeth, the new aircraft carrier, will be here,” he told the Chronicle.

    “She will moor in Gibraltar

    http://chronicle.gi/2016/11/armed-forces-minister-flags-rocks-massive-role-in-troubled-times/

And whilst the UK’s military presence there is currently quite small, the territory’s close proximity to both Britain and the large military base in Akrotiri and Dhekelia means that reinforcements could arrive very quickly. The British government is committed to maintaining all three branches of armed forces in Gibraltar, meaning that the infrastructure exists for larger deployed forces in the future

The difference is...it would be an integral part of the UK and not some private club pretending to be British...
There are plenty of places in the UK that pay less tax...remote Islands in Scotland and not so remote, Bute for instance pays less Council tax than the mainland only a stones throw away.

Armed forces protecting, fighting and dying for these colonial enclaves is a joke...

I'm just back from the Remembrance Day service at Lazaretto Point, Holy Loch...
Stood in the drizzle and remembered my kin that never returned home from distant lands that had nothing whatsoever to do with them, protecting people that never even knew they existed...

Any REAL Scotsman is honouring and remembering those from far away who came together as a British people and sacrificed to defend the UK.

Good for you. Did you also remember the soldiers who came from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in two world wars to defend Britain and a bunch of people who they never knew?

If British soldiers died fighting in distant lands, it was our own fault for building an empire; but having created these 'colonial enclaves' it would be wrong to just abandon them.

Anyway, Gibraltar was established as a military base, and the town grew up to serve the base, not the other way around. I think they have done their share, and as far as I know they don't pay tax to the UK and don't receive any subsidies either.

As I understand it, the plan for most of the BOTs is that they become independent someday, hence them being treated as separate countries when it comes to immigration. But Gibraltar is really too small for that even if it didn't have a Spain problem, so maybe it would be better for it to became part of the UK. I would have no objections anyway.

Why are some arguing abt who died where and who stands to remember them??

Would it not be fair to remind all, that who ever died fighting for the allies and defending democracy have a right to stand in silence to remember the fallen,

ALL that fought, not just some, it matters not who you were, what colour , what religion,
they all fought and died for their countries,
and all should be remembered wherever you may be in the world,

    two points to note,
the enemy also lost millions, and not were bad or nasty,
and civilians also died in their millions,

And today, We remember them all,

    Last but not least,
Can anyone tell me , if the USA are represented in whitewall on remembrance Sunday, or have I got it wrong. [ I mean American military marching ]
