Cuba and Russia sign defence cooperation agreement

The Vicepresident of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin Friday signed a new defense cooperation agreement in Havana as well as six other treaties in the fields of technology, aviation, medicine and railroad transport.     but after seeing how many military bases the yanks have, 4,000 in the US and Alaska, and just over 1,000 around the world, according to TV last night,

    perhaps Mr Putin is just doing trade to earn a few bob... lol

    but yes it stated 4, ooo US bases.

    I'd be suspicious of that claim of “4000 bases.” The usual educated guesses are about 800 outside of the US and some of those “bases” are hospital facilities, tiny weather-radar sites, normally vacant training sites, or a clump of office buildings, or similar. In fact that is part of the problem: defining what a “base” is. The US mil people use the term “installation” and not base so there is some invention going on. And when pressed for details, some of those “bases” turn out to be single-building parcels with a handful of part-time National Guard people who actually work for the states' governments. There was another attempt to characterise the issue as “US military presence” and then went about counting embassy attaché offices as “US military presence.” I'd say the 4000 number for “bases” is probably rubbish.

    but as you say most military establishments range from one person to a weather balloon,

    but that the military for you..
