The United Kingdom is resolutely committed to the Islanders right to self determination assured the Prime Minister Theresa May in her Christmas message to the Falklands. Mrs. May also pointed out that a better relationship with Argentina is in everyone’s interests, and in time, this should reap the rewards through benefits to the Islands' economy, improving trade and tourism, and developing the hydrocarbons and fisheries industries.

”We remain resolutely committed to your right to self determination – on which you made clear your firm position in the referendum three years ago….”

At special times, like Christmas, the Government of the United Kingdom reaffirms its commitment to the Falkland Islands and the peoples thereof right to self-determination.

This is in stark contrast to utterances from representatives of the Government of Argentina, who use every opportunity to mount an almost continuous reaffirmation of its claim to the Islands and ‘surrounding maritime spaces’, presumably on the basis that if you tell a lie often enough it will morph into the truth.

Which side has the most credibility?

Yep, self-determination rules (especially when it's challenged by hot air and propaganda).

There can be no doubt that being an 'Anglo' is a very special thing. At its closest, I name the countries of the 'Anglosphere', Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States and, of course, the United Kingdom. At a slight remove is the Commonwealth of Nations. An intergovernmental association of 52 members, mostly formerly members of the British Empire but including two countries with no former links to the UK. Composed of many races.

As the Falkland Islands found out, being part of the Anglosphere or the Commonwealth or being a British Overseas Territory means being 'special' to the British people.

The usual hypocrisy from the British right - they NEVER gave a damn about the self-determination of the islanders of Diego García, secretly thrown off their island to make way for a US base but, oh yes, they do care so much for the self-determination of the Falklanders. I would have some more sympathy for the latter if they joined the campaign for the return of the Diego García islanders.
