The BBC’s political editor has said she was told that the Queen supported EU withdrawal, but did not report it as she could not find a second source. Laura Kuenssberg said she was told about the alleged comment months before the eventual appearance of The Sun’s “Queen backs Brexit” headline in March. Read full article

“ the Queen told people at a private lunch”. Private. Not for public consumption. I hope none of those present ever get invited again.

I don't know if it is true or not but the Queen would never have told people how to vote and stays out of politics. In the same way as her weekly discussions with the Prime Minister are always entirely confidential.

Laura Kuenssberg is an excellent commentator and one reason to ONLY watch BBC television news.

However, I think she should have been advised NOT to make public comments allegedly made by HM The Queen in private and which she, Laura, did not personally hear.

So what the Queen says is what the nation does...back to being a absolute Monarchy. Britain is backtracking to the 14th century in huge strides now!

    @ TTT

You should read the article again. The Queen may or may not have expressed a personal opinion - in what context we don't know. It was not made public until now - months AFTER the vote.

Actually it was made public before the referendum - I remember the Sun headline, it was kind of a scandal because the Queen's opinions on political matters are not supposed to be made public.

But if it affected how anyone voted that is up to them. Obviously our resident Troll is just as wrong and ridiculous as usual.

I don't think anyone would have been daft enough to be influenced by what the Queen thinks...she detested Diana, but most folk didn't...
I remember the scandal, she was having a go at Nick Clegg apparently...
I thought sooo....the Queen is backing Brexit....
    I voted remain....;-)
She was also against the Scottish Independence...is that politics...? I'm not sure it was...
    I voted remain....
    I think I have a theme....

So against the EU and against Scotland leaving... seems like a pattern: she craves POWER.

All her “opinions” coincidentally happen to fall on the side where it leaves her as a more powerful head of state. I'm sure she is against Australia becoming a republic too.

    @FC
It's hardly surprising that she would hold those opinions, and I'm sure she is against Australia becoming a republic as well. So what? It's not like she can do anything about it.
