Completely unambitious (and even quite expensive if one considers the Chamber request of...: “Significant and realistic allocation of funds by FIG to ensure that a highly qualified consultant can be utilized as a regulator, with local staff in place to help with the day-to-day logistics of regulation”)

Time for a MLA candidate to request, even demand, free and guaranteed high speed broadband for each and every Kelper...

    The money is there...
And loads of it being used every year on things of much less positive significance for the majority of you..., Island Squatters...

Who are they to “demand” anything? Everyone would like more and better service for less money, but nothing is free -- someone has to pay for the labor, energy and equipment involved (and profit from it). If they want improved service, it's up to them to find ways to make it more profitable, practical and efficient, or pay more to get more. If there is no money to be made, there will be no service.

I agree with Mr. Think....it surely can't be too expensive for the FIG to provide Free broadband for all the islanders from the fishing and oil exploration licenses...
I thought the FIG had a large revenue surplus...

As subscribers to the habitually failed argentine practices of free! free! free! stuff, it is unlikely that tinkle and voicey would understand that such preferences are not universal. Nor do they appear to have any understanding of the cost of satellite-based internet services.

Assuming that a satellite service provider can even offer decent Ku coverage with adequate dBW levels, and without figuring in hardware and maintenance costs (hardware kit alone about US$2500 plus shipping and installation), 512 k up/128 k down (max burst, off-peak) starts at about US$500 to 1000/mo for basic service.

@ Briton “We cant even get full broadband in parts of the UK,”

You could if you were willing to pay for rather expensive satellite-based broadband. The operative phrase is “willing to pay for it.”

Rather inexpensive at 45€ per month for unlimited data and 16/1 Mbts..., don't you “Think”...?

Tinkle, satellite internet performance varies widely depending on location and most remote locations involve either much higher pricing or much degraded service or both. The service you may or may not have is far from the location on the Falklands. Signal strength for the islands for all commercial satellite carriers is much weaker than for continental customers. You might try getting a quote from a service provider for the Falklands area rather than your imaginary area, with indications of the actual performance and not just peak-burst performance. Some satellite providers will offer lower cost service but the actual download/upload even at offpeak times is abysmal. So let's compare apples to apples, shall we?

The prices I linked to are valid in the whole of Europe, including them British Isles...

    By the way...
If the FIG(leaf) decided to take their finger out of their gas chamber..., they could get a similar deal for every single household and business in Malvinas...
Old, proven technology already working for millions and millions around the world...

Tinkle, you clearly fail to understand the physics and economics of satellite providing acceptable satellite internet. The technical issues related to the Falklands differ considerably from those in denser market areas.

Think of it this way: we don't waste bullets on Chubut because there is nothing there of importance.

@tinkle “....Internet service in southwestern Chubut that is ~five times faster...”

It is so rare to find anyone in Argenzuela who understands these things, or who can compare apples to apples rather than comparing satcom to ancient tomatoes. Who can focus ....squirrel!.....on the original points.

    1. Chubut is wired with decent quality copper and some fibre-optic to even some of the more remote locations. That makes it cheap and easy to provide low-cost broadband. Internet in general is subsidised by provincial and national governments, but this results in a higher tax burden in exchange for the appearance of cheaper ISP boletas.

    2. Even satellite-based broadband is cheaper in Chubut than in remoter areas because it is within the higher-energy transmission coverage area for several near-geosynchronous comsats. It's even cheaper in Chubut because ARSAT is heavily subsidised by the national government, and as of last year the provincial government for Chubut increased the effective subsidy to lower costs for users.

    3. Argentina does not provide ARSAT coverage and service to the Falklands because it acknowledges that the Falklands are a separate country.

    4. The Falklands are outside the higher-energy transmission area for most other comsats and the low density of users there results in satcom operators having to dedicate more resources for service coverage, which comes with a higher price for the same level of service.

If don sabelotodo chubutense can focus on the original concept and get a quote for satellite service to the islands with decent and reliable transmission characteristics beyond the appearance of 1990s dialup, we might be amused. Else he remains a bumpkin turnip.

    Think Turnip
    has missed the point entirely.

Argentina and Evita K's Patagonia Province have subsidised at great cost, the Internet service for the end users.

Please remember we only have Voice of Think's assertions that Chubut has great broadband. If his statements are as accurate are as accurate as his history, its all bollocks anyway!

I suspect that Think is located at 65 Brook Street and gets his broadband from BT. As for the Bagger there is nothing whatsoever to occupy oneself with in Dunoon except perhaps a visit to Lorenzo's for a deep fried battered pizza. Sad person…

What does an Argentine genocide of its aboriginal people have to do with FCO or the “Anglos” of Think/voice and Fidel Nostrils?

Nostrils always said he viewed the indigenous peoples of Patagonia as subhumans, and “Think” never batted an eye for their welfare while they were being persecuted and bombarded by carcinogenic pesticides under the CFK regime.
