    I am an isolationist so this seems madness to me, but if you go through with this I would hope you also keep the other promise Macri just made yesterday to close the borders to immigrants with criminal records.

    If you close the frontiers to immigrants with criminal records, where will the next generation of kirchneristas come from?

    False premise, fidelito, but further evidence of your characteristically argentine lack of reading comprehension skills.

    1. The “if you” phrase is impersonal and rhetorical, and not intended to refer to anyone in particular. It could be rephrased in the subjunctive as “If the frontiers were closed ...” Si fueran cerradas las fronteras.... O sea, no tiene nada que ver con vos.

    2. “where will the next generation of kirchneristas come from” in no way suggests that any particular forero will be supplying the dregs and refuse of humankind, but asks again in a rhetorical sense where such rabble might be found for the future.

    Fidelito, you really need some help in understanding what is written. Actually you and reekie both seem to suffer from similar symptoms of comprehension deficiency, so perhaps a remedial reading course could be made available to both of you.

    No Pops...it's called life...

    A generation goes, and a generation comes,
    but the earth remains forever.

    The sun rises, and the sun goes down,
    and hastens to the place where it rises.

    The wind blows to the south
    and goes around to the north;
    around and around goes the wind,
    and on its circuits the wind returns.

    All streams run to the sea,
    but the sea is not full;
    to the place where the streams flow,
    there they flow again.

    All things are full of weariness;
    a man cannot utter it;
    the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
    nor the ear filled with hearing.

    What has been is what will be,
    and what has been done is what will be done,
    and there is nothing new under the sun...

    Hollywood, Washington, Broadway....the difference is? My wife, a Portena, says Trump is our Kirchner. He is even moving the White House press corps out of the White House. Everyone on MP kept saying, she (Kirchner) will never finish her term, now, we are saying it here. He's such a big, fat lying, unethical pig, we can only up that his high LDL will put him in his place.
    Christ and the GOP who stopped the Democrats in the past for less, are so bad. Non payment of taxes, questionable stock trades and the list goes on.

    The Kremlin is the new White House

    Who was the ferocious, anti Russian poster claiming to be an American, yet a Trumpeter? We never see him anymore. Do you suppose with all that anti Russian sentiment combined with being a Trumpeter he will ever post again?

    @ CP Which one are you talking about? We have had a few Trump worshipers also insulting the Russians. I think they may be too confused by events to post coherently.

    I was talking to some friends in D.C. the other evening and we reached the same conclusion that whilst we didn't always agree with the politics of whoever was in the White House we still had respect for the office. That respect has gone.

    Give it time, CP, and people will realise they were conned by the snake oil salesman. Though, sadly, politics has become so like a sport in the U.S. that they would probably still support him. In that I am reminded of the Italian adage., “You can change your wife, you can change your religion but you can never change your football team”. For the U.S. insert 'You can never change you political party'. Trump once said that he could go onto 5th Avenue with a gun and shoot a random person and his supporter would still vote for him (they are that stupid). Now that is SAD.

    What with so many cupboards full of skeletons and a bull in a China shop modus operandi Trump is certainly going to get impeached at some point. He probably won't last that long. However, he has surrounded himself with lots of crafty advisors who may deflect him from excesses. Have to wait and see…

    Returning to the original subject of the article:

    The idea of some accelerated crossing of frontiers here should be seriously considered, at least between CL and AR. After all, it's taking up to 10 hours at times for mendocinos and other argentines to cross into Chile for their shopping. Speeding up the frontier formalities would allow them to buy their 200-inch LED televisions and decent clothing at the “shoppings” in Santiago (de Chile) much more efficiently. And I'd personally prefer not to have to wait so long at the crossing at Monte Aymond.

    Elaine, I have faith and some things like politics change slowly, like an aircraft carrier. I am fairly comfortable in my believe the the mid terms will deal a catastrophic blow to the GOP. In fact I always felt that if Trump did win, it would be merely a short term breath of fresh air for the GOP, but in the mid to long term, one of the final nails to their coffins.

    Interesting that Trumps budget director dd not know to pay “nanny” taxes yet he will run a financial role. Not to mention GOP held democrats feet to the fire over that same exact issues and nominees where forced to pull out. Or buying stocks of a company a week prior to introducing a bill that directly benefits that company. A potential Sec.of Education who wants guns in schools, defund public education and will find a way to keep the poor out of “elite” schools yet still have vouchers.

    These next two years will be a nightmare. When do we get to start blaming them, the GOP? How long did they wait with Obama?

    I wouldn't rely too much on the midterms if I were you. In the Senate there are 23 seats held by Democrats up for election, plus two independents who work with them, and only 8 held by Republicans. Even if Trump is the biggest disaster ever, a large swing in the Senate is impossible.

    @4

    Your excessive dissection of what is an extremely simplistic post is bemusing, and you then you dress it up as an attempt to belabor my “reading” skills, which are just fine.

    You think I am a Kirchnerista, and that has nothing to do with your “If you” grammatical explications.Since the article DID NOT discuss the proposals just made my Macri to crack down on immigrants with criminal records, then it WAS a safe assumption to make that your “impersonal subjunctive” was anything but impersonal.

    You may read English just as a well as I do, but your logical processing of the information therein is far below grade.

    Your wife says Trump is a Kirchner, I have said he is a CFK for months here (before the election), after the Election La Nacion alalyst said he is the same. Recently CNN made a comparison to CFK...

    So WHERE ARE ALL THE CFK haters here who professed to only hate her policies? Where are they now on Trump? Who has said will tear up treaties, intimidates PRIVATE enterprises, wants to impose restrictions on money sent out, wants to impose tariffs, threatens the free press, is loud-mouthed... any of these remind you of someone??

    If those attributes were so bad on a certain ex-president, why are the good on a future one?

    @TTT

    The comparisons of Trump's populist stance and CFK's have been around since he started campaigning. The irony of some posters who would constantly attack CFK but support Trump has not been lost, we can see it and have remarked on it. But that is not ALL posters. You do tend to lump together everyone who is not Argentine.

    Just to clarify, I despised CFK and her policies. I despise Trump and probably will dislike his policies once we know what they actually are. Don't think for one moment that his election promises are likely to become policy. He has already been walking back on most of them.

    CFK and Trump share a lot of qualities. Both are in it for personal enrichment and all about themselves. Both know how to sell to the most vulnerable and stupid. They know how to tap into prejudices and to rule by division.

    TTT, I never had you as a CFK supporter. You only really defended her because she was your President but you also criticised her corrupt administration.

    Trump has no policies. His policy is to get into an argument with anyone, from wounded veterans, to women, to children, and always emerge the victorious “tough guy”. If the opponent proves he/she an fight back, just resort to saying ever more outrageous, outlandish, insulting statements, until the other side, usually far more sensible and intelligent, can no longer “one-up” him lest risking themselves becoming outrageous. That is why Trump can't ever back away from confrontation, it feeds his ego to win. Then he needs to find a new one.

    His policies are based on what he feels the majority does not want. He just likes to be contrarian to prove he can be. A total loser and starting tomorrow I have no qualms about calling the USA a laughing stock, just as so many foreigners and foreign media did with Argentina in the CFK era.
