Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump's chief White House strategist, went on a tirade against the media during an interview with The New York Times. Bannon, who spearheaded the far-right website Breitbart News until he took over as Trump's campaign CEO in August, lambasted the press and said it had been “humiliated” by the results of the 2016 election. Truth, free speech and the right to protest are the opposition to Trump, Trumpets and the merry yet ignorant Trumpeters.

    The headline should have been “Trump declares war on the free press”.

    Too right that anyone telling the truth is his opposition now.

    Didn't CFK declare La Nacion and Clarin to be the opposition?

    Did CFK publish a book on running a republic? Or did the Trump team just get advanced autographed copies?

    They even are talking about banning remittances, which is an early-stage “cepo” cambiario :)

    @TTT

    They are two narcissists out of the same mould. They are only concerned with increasing their own power and silencing any opposition.

    CP and DT This is an appalling development. However, I am absolutely certain that the majority of U.S. citizens who did not vote for Trump are not going to accept this. Already people are increasing support for the free press and government workers being told not to speak to press are ignoring the directive.

    Trump does not understand that he cannot control everyone.

    Goebbels might have said the same thing in 1933 and there are a heck of a lot of other parallels.
    It is going to be a bumpy 4 years.

    Apparently many scientists working for US agencies are not going rogue with social media accounts because they feel they cannot express scientific data through the official channel for fear of reprisals.

    Nothing to worry about for North Americans in 6 days :)

    It is Elaine.......only a dictator has issues with freedom of speech, free press and protesters. Only someone from a USSR frame of mind cannot see the purpose of the press in a democratic society.

    Tobi.....or fidel of whatever you want to call yourself, still pretending to live in Argentina, posting from the mountains of lovely BC?

    Sieg, heil. Die Gefahr ist schon da. The US is sliding quickly into fascism, and this is a prime example of that slide.

    Haha, loves the press conference where our PM allowed our press to ask some very difficult questions that had Trump on the back foot. He looked nervous.

    Yinzer, the USA will bend but hardly break. I wouldn't give up on her so easily because of 39 million lunatics and 20 million desperate voters chose Trump. But, I have to say it's a tough defense with that dysfunctional sociopathic narcissist in the White House.
