Apologized? Interesting. Telam did not mention such an 'apology'.

He probably said, when asked about it “ sorry that someone damaged the virgin ” or words to that effect. He most certainly did not say what “ Malcontent ” said he said.

Seems Natasha Niebieskikwiat (Clarin) has more information than Telam? The UK's Foreign Office has not released any detail of the conversation - as yet.

My money is still on an Argie as the culprit.

”Ms Malcorra said that during the encounter foreign secretary Johnson said he would like to visit Argentina and “apologized for the damages at the Darwin cemetery in the Falklands”.

Given Argentina's aversion to the truth, we will need to hear from Boris Johnson or the UK FO to find out what was actually said during the brief meeting.

But at least she got the name of the Islands right.

The same Argentine Govt publicity bullshit propoganda releases - no difference since the Kirschener era at all. Nobody as yet knows who caused the damage nor what nationality they were so NEITHER side will have apologised - both sides may well have said to the other -how distastefull it was - quite right.
And this fantasy land of Argentina honestly thinks it can ever persuade us Islanders that it is a sensible open free and democratic nation and one for us to join ???!!!!

It was Johnson not Malcorra who apologised for the damage to the Darwin cemetery that contains the bodies of Argentine conscripts killed during the stupid war. This damage was carried out by the usual 'heroes' - euphemism for ill-educated kids who join the armed forces wrapped up in post-colonial nostalgia.

It´s cute how the islanders think that the brits really care about them. You are just there for the oil, the fish and ransacking the Antarctica, and you do not even get a dime out of the riches being stolen.
You talk about self determination. You really think that you have self determination, and that you can choose, that you are free people.

If you prepared a declaration of independence, your independence would last less than 1 minute, the minute necessary for a royal navy marine to arrest you.

“ and you do not even get a dime out of the riches being stolen.”

    1. You can't steal what is yours.

    2. The income from the oil and fisheries goes to the Islanders, not to the UK. The UK does get money off the Islanders 'riches' as the Falklands buy a lot of supplies and services from the UK, but the Islanders get something in return, i.e. services, labour and materials/supplies.

    It's called trade.

The UK exchequer gets no money whatsoever, from oil and fisheries in the Falklands, it stays in the islands.

Seems to take you forever to get this into your head, maybe you will within 25 years?

Your country is so used to thieving, it assumes the rest of the world are the same.

Thank goodness the Falkland Islands are not run by Argentina.

What a mess they would be in if the running of the Islands were to be taken on by Argentina.

We had a snapshot of how Argentina would run the Islands given to the world in 1982,when they managed to turn a tidy, well organised place like Stanley into an utter, dysfunctional shithole within three months.

Also after recovering from the Lexington raid, the UP sent a militia in 1832 which as per typical Argentine standards, promptly mutinied and messed up the settlement. Even after the British kicked these criminals out in 1833, the gauchos paid in silver by the Brits, messed up the settlement in an orgy of murder.

    Argentina never changes.

If Argentina took over the Falklands again, I'd give it 5 years before the Argentines made a total, irretrievable financial, ecological and logistic mess of the islands, maybe sooner, whilst they thieved all the money from the Islands and used it to line the pockets of Argy politicians in overseas accounts.

A typical comment from an Argentine.. You must be the only country in the world claiming a country you appear to know so little about.

    Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

If the money for fishing permits went to islanders, you should all be millionaires, due to the high quantity of money that comes from it, but thats not the case. Neither will be if you manage to steal argentina´s oil.
You are funny, the money “stays on the islands” imagine that, imagine that there are more soldiers than citizens in malvinas, and that the brits up north pay for all of it, while you kept the money from the permits. If it stayed on the islands each of you would have a yatch, and the island would be exploited by some impoverished underpaid chileans.
You really believe these marines are free do you? out of the golden solidary heart of the british politicians in London

As to your second arguments, your former PM´s family made its fortune in times past with slavery, british government compensated very generously his family for not being able to torture negros again, here you go brit : http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/britains-colonial-shame-slave-owners-given-huge-payouts-after-abolition-8508358.html

That not being enough, most of your politicians are publicly known for triangulating their riches in fiscal paradises. As a matter of fact, most of fiscal paradises - created solely to evade taxes and rob the population blind - are currently or former, british colonies. So maybe, having a tidy place and nice uniforms only reflects that your politicians go a farther lenght at concealing what they steal from you.

“Most” you say. Not ALL, certainly.

In South America, “evading taxation and stealing from the populace” seems to be the accepted norm, in Mercosur countries at least.
Just look at CFK, Lula, and Maduro, as modern day examples.

CFK and Lula are both going to jail soon for theft and corruption, Maduro's family and friends use government assets and Diplomatic Passports to export cocaine to the USA. He is only kept in power by armed motochoros shooting unarmed women and children.

Ah, the South American Bolivarian utopia.

    @LukeDig
That should have been addressed to Pete Bog, but I know some of Cameron's distant relations made their money from slavery, and that the UK government borrowed money in order to compensate them when slavery was abolished. So it was the UK taxpayers who ultimately paid for it, but unfortunately we can't go back in time and change things.

“If the money for fishing permits went to islanders, you should all be millionaires”

    My mistake.

I wrote“. The income from the oil and fisheries goes to the Islanders.”

To be more precise, I should have wrote, the Income from the oil and fisheries goes to the Falkland Islands Government.

The main point is that the money from the permits does NOT go to the UK , but goes to fund the following in the Islands: Civil Aviation, the Department of Agriculture. Tourism, Water supplies, Power supplies, Education (including FREE university education,(i.e. anywhere the Islanders chose to attend University),and flying teachers out to teach all over the island, FIGAS, The department of Civil Aviation, the Fire Service, FIDF, Public Works, Housing, Healthcare, fishery patrol vessels and aircraft, the Legal department, the Police, and docking facilities to name a few.

These do not come cheap but at least there is much public funding which saves the Islanders money.

“imagine that there are more soldiers than citizens in the Falkland Islands and that the brits up north pay for all of it, while you kept the money from the permits.”

If the Falklands were to be completely demilitarised, the UK taxpayer would pay exactly the same taxes because the military assets would be based somewhere else, whether in the UK or another part of the world.

Something that is surely obvious to you?

There are NO extra aircraft, ships, soldiers or missiles because of the Falkland defences.

Have you noticed how UK forces deploy worldwide?

Probably not, when your most potent military fighter aircraft is a Tucano.

The UK use these as basic trainers.

If the Islands did not receive money from permits, how would you suggest they run their public services?

By the way, I am a UK taxpayer and am more than happy that a tiny proportion of those taxes go to defend the Falklands against your imperialism because the Islanders spend £millions in the UK buying goods and services.

1.8m bolts and only one allen key? That's going to take a while to put up!

And of course it's perfectly normal and appropriate for the President of the United States to get his info about other countries from Fox 'News' rather than his own agencies or that country's government!

@DemonTree , sorry for taking a few days to give you the letters, here in LA we work very hard, so we have little time.

THIS IS for the usual uneducated brits who keep claiming their imperial country never did anything questionable. It´s no surprise tough, to get a real education in that island of yours you need to go to Scotland.

Im sorry its in spanish, but you can find the sources below every letter and record of the Foreign Office and other things.

    http://nomeolvidesorg.com.ar/wpress/?p=3147

If that does not suit you, I can certainly find more.

    @LukeDig
I didn't claim that Britain never did anything questionable. I know perfectly well that my country has done plenty of more-than-questionable things, and some a lot more recently than 200 years ago.

Thank you for the link, but that is to a whole book, in what is to me a foreign language. And I don't even know what, exactly, it is supposed to demonstrate. IIRC, you claimed Britain divided South America, and also forced Argentina and Brazil to fight the war against Paraguay. I can't find anything much in there about the Paraguayan war, so are there letters on that site showing how Britain stopped the various countries in SA uniting after independence? If so, could you tell me which ones I should look at?

    @Think
Wikipedia says Estévez is seen as an important influence in the Argentine Army, that could be why his grave was chosen. But why poppies and who put them there?

Depends on the grade of abuse & nastyness of the grafitti concerned..., Kelper GALlamosa...

If in the direction of...: “Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!”..., I'll readily apologise...

If in the direction of...: “Las Malvinas son Argentinas”..., I'll just fart in your general direction...
