Full article 9 comments

The first Latin American leader to visit U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House said that he told Trump he prefers bridges to walls and favors the free movement of people across borders. However, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski declined to comment specifically on Trump's proposal to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking in a press conference following the meeting. It's evident that President Trump's education, as least in geography is sadly lacking when he refers to Peru as a “fantastic neighbour”, which leads one to wonder what other areas of this person's education is sadly lacking. Like good manners for example, or respect for different human races, etc, ??

    Hepatia,

The OXFORD ADVANCED LEARNER'S DICTIONARY OR CURRENT ENGLISH, says with regards the word NEIGHBOUR: ”a person living in a house, street, etc. near another; person, thing or country that is near(ist) one another“. The distance between Washington D.C. to Lima , Peru , is 3.534 miles. Not exactly a ”neighbour” in my understanding of the word.

Well, my advice to you that you should discount definitions from those dictionaries in which the word itself is misspelled! BTW is “nearist” a British word - because in America its meaningless trash.

As you pointed out the distance to Lima, Peru, from Washington, DC, is much less the distance from Washington, DC, to Honolulu, HI. But beyond that the US is an American country and, because of this fact, American countries are regarded as neighbors.

But these arguments are irrelevant insofar as you are concerned because, whether you like it or not, Donald Trump has been elected as the POTUS, and the POTUS has declared that not only is Peru a neighbor but it is a good neighbor. And that is all you euro-trash need to know!

    Hepatia,

If you consider the dictionnary I referred to as “trash” may I suggest that you look up the word “neighbour” in whichever dictionnary you consider will give you an accurate description of the word. I'm absolutely certain that it will give the same replies.

I'm not discussing the fact that Donald Trump is POTUS as you say but I still sustain that the word “neighbour” is not applicable in the manner used by your President.

For the record your comments “and that is all you euro-trash need to know” is like the rest of your remarks fully off the mark, and above all totally unwarranted, and even verging on the rude.

I was born and brought up in a Latin American Country and now live in another Latin American country, so please may I suggest that your replies keep to the original theme discussed which was the use of the word “neighbour” for Peru, as mentioned by your President and not turn your replies into a political ramble, trying to justify the unjustifiable.Mtks.

The word ”neighbour” does not exist in any dictionary I use. But then it does not exist in this article either so you, like most Brits, are wasting everybody's time.

What you euro-trash think of any particular thing that the POTUS might say is irrelevant. Your vocation is to shut up and do as you are told!

    Hepatia,

Answering your comments separately allow me to say:

    1) You should go to a library and find a person willing to find the word “neighbour” in any dictionnary that may be to hand. I'm certain that you find that this word does exist. I would also suggest that you read the defination of the word and if not comprehensible to you ask for assistance as to the meaning thereof. I'm certain it will not be a waste of time as you suggest. In fact it will enhance your knowledge of the English language.
    2) As I've already mentioned before I'm not a Brit. I was born in Latin America, educated in Latin America and have lived all my life in various Latin American countries, so your comments with regards “so you like all Brits, are wasting everybody's time” are completely off the mark.
    3) In a democracy we all have the right of expressing our views, despite they may or may not concur with the views of the POTUS in the White House at any given time.
    4) Your comment “your vocation is to shut up and do as you are told” really sets off alarm bells within me. This is a typical and familiar situation that those of us who have lived in South America have learned to fear, having lived through various Dictatorships that have plagued these lands. I sincerely trust and hope that this remark of yours is not a warning that the U.S.A., a haven of democracy, is now heading towards a Trump dictatorship, where the press is muzzled and those who do not go along with the views sustained by POTUS are persecuted and, as you say have to “do as you are told”.................or else.

You're a Brit. You poor spelling, grammar and jingoism give you away.

The rights you mention are American rights. They do not apply to you Brits.

    Hepatia

The phrase “good neighbour” appears in the 5th paragraph of the article.

As for the rest of your comments I stand by what I have repeatedly said.
