Argentina's economy exited a prolonged recession in the second half of last year, with government data on Tuesday showing a 0.5% expansion in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the third quarter. Indec stats agency also revised its estimate for third-quarter GDP to a 0.1% increase over the second quarter, up from a 0.2% decline previously. Taken together, the data show Argentina's economy grew in the second half after shrinking for three straight quarters. Read full article

Mar 22nd, 2017 - 05:25 pm - Link - Report abuse +4Never upset when good news is confirmed and (if) the Argentine economy is really moving out of recession.
For now, the statistics will be evaluated by Argentines who struggle with significantly reduced purchase power and rising energy costs as layoffs continue and SMEs close their doors under the weight of wide open imports and the rain of investments looks rather as a drizzle.
Of course, as the October election approaches and no real improvement happens, the temptation of playing with the numbers will no doubt be significant for a government elected on promises of starting an era of change, openness and transparency.
Bad news for Reekie.....

Mar 24th, 2017 - 01:56 am - Link - Report abuse -3You said it, not me.
Mendoza, under CFK or Macri, has always boomed. 400 shops closed is irrelevant. Mendoza is always Mendoza. Stable, reliable, safe, prosperous.
Well, your reply says it all. Economic collapse is stability in your book. Kind of like your mental state, eh?

@ TTT
Mar 24th, 2017 - 01:09 pm - Link - Report abuse +3I think the Mendoza you inhabit does not change much under any government. As you have told us on many occasions you are proud to have very little and don't yearn for wealth or possessions, (or relationships). So any government strategy would probably not affect you too much.
That said, It is a very real situation that at the moment Argentineans from Mendoza (and other cities close to the border) are crossing into Chile to buy goods that are far more expensive in Argentina. The Chileans are exploiting this by offering incentives. That is the situation at the moment. We all know that it has been the opposite at times with Chileans finding Mendoza much cheaper. Why not just admit the reality? It is not a criticism, just a fact.
Buying in Chile or Mendoza has always been on a rollercoaster.
Mar 24th, 2017 - 06:55 pm - Link - Report abuse +2In the nineteens and until 2002 Mendociinos went to Chile, from 2002 until 2014 you couldn't throw a brick in Mendoza without hitting a Chileno. After the long row of successful Kirchnerista inflations, the Chileno influx stopped and now it flows in the other direction.
Same thing is true regarding the rest of our neighbors. Sometimes it is Brazil, sometimes it is Paraguay, now it is Chile.

It is OBVIOUS that the Argy trolls, including Reekie, McStink the Chimp, and the southern ape, have multiple personas, just registered so that they can go in and distribute minus points....how childish...it's about time that MP prohibited this practise....it just makes the point system meaningless...let's see : between the 3 of them, they've distributed 7 negative points to ElaineB, while Reekie and McStink have awarded themselves 5 and 7 positive points respectively....OR, it could just be a miracle....

Exchanging emails...?”
I have no idea how, or even if they are 'collaborating', but in retrospect, I wouldn't put it above them.
Popularity is certainly not one of my concerns - otherwise I'd just write what the trolls want to read - and neither am I saying that those who tick up/down without any reason other than to give the impression they are outdoing those they don't particularly sympathize with, care either...perhaps it's the 'cheating' that feeds their twisted egos...
@Reekie
Am still waiting for you to reply....your silence, up to now, just confirms what I'm thinking.

Perfil actually portrays a side of Argentina that would explain Gauchito Drink's comment about a supposedly English brothel for young boys. Human trafficking is actually a historic problem there. When you read Perfil you find that the CGT truckers are intrinsic to a human trafficking network across the country that kidnaps, rapes, and grooms underage boys and girls for use in brothels. The SIDE (now known as SI,) uses this resource to obtain information to blackmail politicians. For example, Carlos Zannini, AKA El Chino and Cristina Kirchner's right hand man, is named as frequenting these brothels. Gauchito Drink's attempt to deflect above notwithstanding, I think we can extrapolate what he does when he returns to visit Argentina... ;)
